I thought they all did. Stats don’t tell the whole story (which is why I hate them). A good example is Florent, I think he had 6 or so possessions but apart from that beautiful handball under pressure, he was unnoticed on the stat sheet. Watch the game closely though and his defensive pressure was immense! I only noticed this because I thought I’d pay particular attention to him after JLT performance.

We can be sure the door won't hit him on the arse on the way out back to the NEAFL, cause he'll be in the wrong spot to get it.

Hanners will be a MASSIVE upgrade - we'll need it, cause we looked so disjointed at times out there. At least he'll get the footy a fair bit.
I know McV will be better for the run, but I REALLY wish Stoddart had played - we just need more cohesion on the fringe of rucks, and people running into spots for hand ball receives and give and goes - which I didn't see enough of from our team. We just lack a little 'je ne se quoi', a flow, I reckon Stoddart could bring. I know it won't happen, but the team is crying out for someone like him. Clearly it's not going to be Florent at this stage.

Hewett looks to be taking the next step - good to see. And Smith proved me wrong, also good to see.
There were a few positives, but we are far, far from the form side after the first round.

Don't think I have ever seen Franklin mark as well as he did in this game. Just an overall magnificent performance.

Watching JPK shrug off with contempt an attempted WCE tackle was one of the highlights of the night.
I have visions of Mills doing the same when he transitions to midfield.

Said it before but really pleased to have dual purpose midfielders/forwards. To have players such as Heeney, Hewett & Parker who are capable of winning centre clearances and then go forward and take contested marks is invaluable.

Call out to for Sinclair, 21 disposals (12 contested), 7 clearances and I noticed twice in the last qtr he sprinted forward from midfield to offer a target. Ignored the first time, second time pack mark attempt saw the ball spill to Parker, for THAT goal. It can be easy to focus on Sinclair's failings, but a wholehearted, committed performance gets a tick from me.

When WCE got on a run on in the 3rd qtr we flooded back and ended up with no one in our fwd half. I'd like to see a player held out to provide an outlet. Doesn't necessarily have to be a marking player but say someone like Papley.

Overall I thought a pleasing performance, best for most of the night and when challenged stood up and pulled away for a 5 goal win.

Buddy has kicked 18 goals in his past 2 regular seasom games

In about two years he should have 1000 goals. Enjoy it while it lasts, we won’t see anyone of his ilk playing the game for a long time.

Watching Parker, Heeney and Buddy...could give two ****s that Titch is gone!

Very proud of the boys. We've had some serious structural hurdles already this campaign.

Special mention to Towers and Sinkers. Held their own in a losing ruck all night. I think our extra mid rotations will go a long way to getting us through that deficiency.

It was evident in the third we were really missing a second lead up target. A Reid or Rohan would have helped a lot when those long kicks under pressure started going down the throats of Eagle defenders ad nauseum.

Macca seems to have some critics, but I thought his inside work was great and he found the release points well all night. He's never going to win a sprint but that's just a given.

Zac was targetted all night. The Eagles set up to let him take the ball all night then apply a gang tackle. His see ball get ball mentality led to a lot of incorrect disposals, tackles and kicks inder pressure. But he worked through it pretty well.

But I think if opposition teams think one player drives our rebound they'll be in for a shock this year.

I think when Heeney moved back to the mids Zac found more room around the packs.

Heeney...geez, just kerps showing what sort of player he could become/already is.

Very happy. But damn, that was stressful near the end.

First of all credit to Hayward and Florent. As teenagers that was just a ridiculously tense game of footy that did not relent for the full four quarters. Hayward padded his stats and Florent didn’t get much of it, but more importantly they both kept at it til the end and neither looked afraid of the contest. Good on em.

McVeigh should NOT have played and I’m beginning to suspect his automatic selections have a bit to do with selfishness.

Huge call but that was probably the greatest game of Buddy’s career. It wasn’t 13 goals or anything, but it can’t be stated enough how monumental Buddy’s task was tonight. He was basically a one-man forward line (seriously Horse didn’t even try to disguise it this time). We needed Buddy to deliver, and not only did he deliver but he kicked eight - on two or three different opponents, in a hostile environment, in a close encounter. Buddy > daylight > Martin & Dangerfield.

We missed Hannebery SO much. Kennedy’s impact on games is lessened when he doesn’t have that one-two punch combo happening out of the middle. Those two know each other’s games inside out and Kennedy looked flat out lost at times tonight. Parker really stood up though when no one else up the field really was willing to... he is a great player.

Hewett and Heeney both excelled and I love how they can utilise their best attributes basically all over the ground. Grundy and Sir Dane were absolute horse shite lol but our back line usually does take a while to click each season. Nick Smith proved his critics wrong.

Finally, the good news... the time has come. After 93 games and just five years on the Swans list, I am annointing an honorary knighthood to Jake Lloyd. Title will be Sir Jake, but I also think Sir Lllloooyyyddd has a nice ring to it (choose your preference.) I just cannot continue pretending like Lloyd is anything other than an absolute gun who I’m so ******* happy plays for our club. One of the toughest, hardest-working, skillful players going around.

Buddy's game was absolutely outstanding. 21 disposals for 8.1 goals is just brilliance. His tackling and non-stat pressure acts were also way up there imo, and I would love to know where to look these up if anyone knows. But for me, the highlight was his marking! Best I've ever seen him I think. If that's a permanent improvement, then all the defenders in the comp must be cringing!!!

Parker scared me in the first quarter when I thought for a second he had injured his groin, but all seemed okay. His 32 disposals, 9 tackles and brilliant goal were key to our coping with the lack of first use of the ball. Kennedy started out a bit slower, but really stood up for us in the last (as he always does when it counts). I thought, that although he sprayed a few, Jones didn't very well in difficult circumstances. The ball was wet and slippery, so handling and kicking were always going to be difficult (someone forgot to tell Buddy this :p), but he hung in and kept at it and ended up doing a good job imo.

Heeney! Damn we are lucky! Just as Franklin will start to fade (in say three years time), Heeney is going to come into his own. How good will that be!!! He played an excellent game and seemed to me to be back at his best.

Could go right through the team, but I'll stop now... except to say we have the best defence in the league!!!!

As well as the Swans played in parts of the game one thing I am really worried about is the amount of inside 50's we concede. I mean we have always conceded a lot but we just expect the defense to be able to handle it. That does not work nearly as well against potent forward lines though. I think it would be much safer if the midfield stop giving the opposition so many chances to go forward rather than relying on the defense to mop up the midfields messes.

I think Cunningham is being unfairly judged here. He didn't get a lot of the ball but some of his kicks did lead to a couple of goals. Not to mention with 6 tackles he laid the second most for the Swans.

Some good parts but we did lack structure. I'm really looking forward to another tall to take some of the load away from Buddy.

Florent was the only one who disappointed me. I was hoping for more of an impact from him, in saying that I was really pleased with a tackle he laid early in the match, showed he is improving his strength.

I thought Kennedy was fairly average today and Mcveigh is an absolute passenger now. Florent showed bugger all too. The rest of the team did great. Comical scenes seeing a good ruck up against Sinclair. Was shambolic there.
Noted that Sinclair got caught behind quite a bit at throwins and ballups. Some work for Cox there to get his positioning right. This made it hard for him to compete effectively. Gotta say though 20+ possessions and SEVEN clearances shows he did plenty around the ground.
Like a lot of the team there are things to work on but a decent start and 4 points.

Florent's role was to provide some of the outside run that Hanners does. He didn't play badly but the real choices to go out are Hayward for Reid and Florent for Hanners. Papley was fairly quiet last night but still has the game to keep Hayward out whilever we structure as we do. Interesting to see Hayward playing higher than he usually does.

Great to get the Win in Perth at anytime, even sweeter opening the new stadium. :)
What can be said about Buddy that hasn’t already been said, he is like a fine bottle of Wine, better with age.
Impressed with KJ, carried over his pre season form nicely and looked a lot sharper than last season.
Even the forum whipping boy Cunningham played his role well , tackling well and some nice delivery to the forward line.

He was awesome all night, ****** a few but attacked the ball...that’s what you want to see!
Love Pelican but he still has a bit to learn. He was outpositioned pretty handily by Darling in the marking contest. Couldn't get around him to spoil. No doubt he will learn and improve.
