To me wealth means you know how to get the job done and stay ahead of the game...that would include getting the right people in and delegating where required...they got Bolton based on a selection committee, they now have Liddell and I'm sure they will continue to make the necessary changes where it is required...going to take time

I thought your first post was a gag.

having money to throw at problems is how we started this cess pit of a century.

what we should have done is built foundation for success with processes that promote good culture.

goes missing a lot in the big one though

Cold hard facts:
  1. We have less depth than any other team in the league.
  2. We lost Doc and Willo for the entire year. Kruez, Murph, Marchbank, Pickett and Kennedy have missed large chunks of the season. In total we have lost the most games to injuries of any team in the league; and we are the team that can least afford injuries.
  3. In a number of games this year we have lost 1, 2 or 3 players during a game; we cannot cover those losses mid-game.
  4. Our backline on Saturday was without Doc, Simmo, Plowman and to a lesser extent Willo. Marchbank was played on a wing and Rowe in the forward line at times. Rip 3-4 starting defenders out of any side and they will be disorganised.
  5. We played the game with one genuine KPF, who was monstered, infringed and triple teamed the entire game (poor decision by MC in my opinion).
  6. Our on ballers were exposed; we did not work any where near as hard as Brisbane.
The way ahead:
  1. Play the youngsters - Harry, TDK & Schu and see what they can do. Balance this with senior players.
  2. Commence a review of the CFC - coaches/recruiting/fitness programs heavily scrutinised. Change things up.
  3. The CFC have to eat humble pie and say circumstances have changed and we desperately need a PP
  4. SOS sums up what is best for the CFC re the no. 1 pick - to keep or to gain maximum value for trading it
  5. Identify and recruit a RFA (must be a quality player) - this will be difficult
  6. Use the PP (should be the start of 2nd round - around pick 20/21) to trade in a 23-26 year old established on baller
  7. Use our Adelaide 2nd rounder to trade in a 23-26 year old established on baller
  8. Use our Bulldogs 2nd rounder to draft a quality on-baller
  9. Look at trading players like Jones and Cas (would any club be prepared to pay anything for them) as both are so unreliable and inconsistent
  10. Keep culling our list- Shaw, Mullett, O'Shea, Graham, Rowe, JGM, Lebois are gone. A couple more from Lamb, Lang, Kerridge, Cas, Daisy, Byrne & Wright will also go. Lobbe is contracted for another year so will stay as our 2nd back up ruckman.
  11. Keep reviewing our coaches - Bolts need a recently retired player from a good system to instil some passion/commitment/non-negotiable football traits in the team. Is that a Sam Mitchell, a Johnathon Brown, a Jarrad McVeigh or a Jimmy Bartel?
  12. Does Bolton need a mentor like the role Neil Craig provided
  13. Bring in mature age players to fill needs (ie. a big full back to hold down full back as per Dunn & Brown for Coll & Melb)
  14. Bring in mature age midfielders on the rookie list - let's find a diamond in the rough
  15. Doc, Willo, Plow will be back for 2019

The 2018 team will go down as one of the worst teams of all time. They play bruise free footy and show no desire, pride or passion. It is an indictment on the club, the coaches and the players. Things need to change and quickly.
And that is......the post of the week!

Tbh we should be able to see it now bar 2 or 3 players( midfielders possibly a small forward) .
Injuries have clouded that somewhat of course but if it takes another 2 drafts and trade periods to become clear then there is most likely some that arent making it imo .
But fair call .
I dont agree. A reset means once loaded... you then need to program things. Add things etc. Our reset hasn't even finished. Next year is another growing year. It wont be until 2020 when we see most of the puzzle pieces together

no it wasn't a gag but i concede my comment about wealthy people being professional is a generalised comment....

i was sorta thinking more along the lines that wealthy people should have the necessary business experience/background/skills to carry out their duties as board members professionally and hence do what is necessary to build a strong club...

Ruling ourselves out of a priority pick is an absolute calamity, and whoever made that decision needs to be held liable.

What do you think the chances are of board meeting minutes being shared with members? I'd love to see how the board voted, and the discussion preceeding.

The minutes wouldn't detail any discussion on the matter, all they will show is the resolution with details of who moved and seconded the proposal. It won't even tell you who voted in favour or against the proposal.

I'd imagine that a discussion on applying or not would have been more likely had at a football department level in concultation with the ceo. It could be that it then was presented to the board for approval, I don't know but I think you are on the wrong track if you think that this would be a discussion initiated at board level.

Well weve already turned over a full list of players in 3 years if we arent getting close to the players we want or need bar a few a handfull of additions then we arent doing it right . Which btw will be the key additions .
Then its just time and games into the players

little simplistic, my accidental friend................

The whole PP things is funny. We have actually managed to get the media on our side for once. It's a strange situation to be in as a Carlton supporter! We're actually in a position to use the media as a bit of an attack dog if the AFL were to deny us one.

McKay being made to earn it is a good thing, we didn't do that with the last rebuild and the results were poor player development. Hopefully he comes in hungry and goes into next preseason hungry.

caped crusader I'm with you on this one, think the media is doing some work for us with this as well, surely this would be one of the easier PP's to offer after all of the commentary.

Why are we talking about PPs?!

I thought we were still a mathematical chance for finals
Stuffed if I know.

Obviously no players not happy, no mutinies on the board, and no complex and convoluted draft plans to talk about.

Ive got navel lint which I think is more interesting than whether we do or not get a PP.

Except the knowledge that he wont get handed games unless he improves his work ethic.

If his work ethic and attitude aren't that great then how did the recruitment team not know of this before he was drafted?

Surely if it's part in truth whats being alluded to then it's a red flag for our recruitment team that was either missed or overlooked. Either way it's on them if there's any truth to what's coming out.

concur with this - we hear all sorts of work has gone into evaluating the mindset and capabilities of young men through info gained from off-field - looks like we need to get a shitload better at what in truth is an almost impossible task to get exact

I believe the reference to his work ethic is physical not mental. As in he has not had a full preseason to date due to injury and they are trying to use the VFL as a way of fast tracking that aspect for him. Granted it is a moot point now. As they will have to play him due to no one else being available.

Oh and I have not heard anyone at the club say anything about his attitude.

Didn’t Bruce and Juddy say he is playing VFL and doing extra work to make up for lack of preseason? Probably has heavy legs if they are trying to fast track aerobic capacity.

Sounds like a fair reason not to play him in the seniors.

Since 2014, 25 games won & 1 draw. :(
That’s very bad , worse than I imagined, what are the AFL deliberating and procrastinating about ?action has to be taken system needs overhaul.
If we’re unable to attract talented A grade mature players, how to get off the bottom?
They need to act before end season, the situation is untenable.

Which of his teammates are being handed games and not improving their work ethic?
SPS - Had many mediocre games this year and definitely looked laconic at the best of times. Hasn't played a single VFL game.
Rowe - Got caught out several times on the camera (On the Couch rinsed him for this) putting in half assed efforts
Kerridge - played plenty of seniors and again was caught out for all to see several times in the Freo game
O'Shea - If his KPI's are frees against and turnovers then he has earned his spot
Mullet - as above

If our players have won 1 game this year by giving 100% every week then we may as well relegate ourselves.

I think its pretty clear why Rowe, O'Shea and Mullet have been getting games. The other two you mentioned haven't been as bad as you suggest.
