Autopsy Rd 18 v Hawks - There is nothing to say

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

First minute of the game, we win a clearance and go forward, after some pressure on the opposition defenders we win ball back at the top of the centre square facing our goals.

What ensues is another classic comedy performance, we pass backwards to someone, who then goes a little chip sideways followed up by another kick backwards and suddenly we have the ball back inside our own defensive 50, and then finally the resulting turnover kick that we were lucky the Hawks didn’t scare a goal from.

My question: is this a directive from the coaching staff because I’ve seen it way too many times in games this year?

My best guess is that the forward structures aren't working, combined with players too devoid of confidence means they aren't willing to take the risk with a kick forward/ there is no obvious option so they go backwards.

This is the only forum I’ve ever seen where the same regular posters come on loss after loss after loss all year long shouting down anyone that doesn’t see just how great this rebuild is progressing with a 1-16 record lol

Always makes me laugh how they can see the positives in a 10 goal loss, even when that loss occurs at the hands of 17th places team like a few weeks ago

Often when they show a behind the play camera you can see what the kicker is faced with. Usually no free players running to space and longer targets matched up, the only risk free option is behind them and that is usually where they go.

In contrast the opposition seem to have multiple overlap runners free and they can move the ball through the midfield with little or no pressure being applied.

Press conference was interesting.

Coach was somewhat critical of some younger players, such as Samo's short kicking, Harry's finishing, Pickett's consistency, Weitering's overly safe offensive play.

This is good; continually challenging and driving growth.
That is very interesting, not sure i have heard BB calling out players efforts before.

I've been advised not to and after a lot of thought I shall take that advice. How is suggesting a poster is active on numerous forums belittling? You might want to check your own putrid record on that btw. As long as the likes of you exist around here incessantly bagging my club and its coach and players, I shall happily point you in the most appropriate direction. Keep it up, there's plenty more.

Bullshit. He may have posted things that I and others disagree with but that doesn't make everything he's posted embarrassing.

What's embarrassing is a man of your age jumping on the internet just to be a smart arse and shit stir others.
You're right, looking back, he's made a few posts that are just inconsequential.

Why scared I'll report?

I'm a man of my word, I won't report anyone.

BTW can you point out where I've bagged the club? Where have I bagged the coach? Where have I bagged players? I may have pointed out flaws I see in players, but haven't bagged them. I've seen you have a go at players yourself too mate on plenty of occasions.

This is the freakin AFL, where performance and results matter, not some suburban league in the middle of nowhere where all teams get a participation trophy.

When our team in the AFL has won only 1 game this whole entire year and only 2 games in the last 26 or so, then it can’t be sugar coated anymore, we are a rabble and it needs to be pointed out so that pressure can be exerted on the club to get make changes at the top. Simple as that.

probably a case of a young side trying to follow a game plan that they are struggled Ng to implement yet!!!

To which my counterpoint becomes, what exactly makes you think it isn't? being pointed out? It isn't as though we're not copping it from most quarters most weeks, is it?

In what way are things being sugar-coated, in any way whatsoever?

This is part of what I really don't understand. What exactly do you think Bolton should say at his press conferences; what do you think Bolton isn't doing that he should be doing; what 'changes' can be done that would immediately fix things in quick order?

From where I'm sitting, there isn't a great deal that can be done that isn't already being done.

No ticker for the contact. Three times today that I can remember he pulled out of a contest cause he knew he was gonna get whacked. Not sure he realizes AFL is a contact sport. He's soft.
I guess you missed him taking a mark with 2 players bearing down on him & he didn't flinch at all. I guess no-one can be as brave as you though.

I guess I’m not expecting Bolton to say much at his pressers, I recognise there’s not much he can say there.

But I’d love the club itself to come out and give us a blue print for the changes that will be made at years end.

Tell us what if anything they will do with the fitness and performance department.
Medical department.
Are any big trades in the offing that we can expect
Are any good assistance coaches in the offing. Etc etc

Surely they have made decisions already and have plans in the works, don’t tell us every detail but give us a clear outline on just what we can expect next year, something for us to keep the faith

You know that with clubs confidentiality we have to wait till the end stop the shit talk.

Not asking for names or specific details, just an outline of what changes we can expect at years end to keep the faith that we won’t just continue to be a rabble next year.

Here’s the thing, I personally and I’m guessing many others are no longer willing to just trust those in charge of the club anymore next year and beyond without them outlining what changes they plan to make even if they don’t detail it

To which my response again becomes, why give other clubs the prior notice?

Announce things when they've occurred or are a done deal, not a moment before.

Bear in mind, we've announced we're looking for players within an age range - 21-25 - we've heard through rumours and media releases that we're looking into expanding the coaching departments, and we've again heard rumours about a review of the medical department. We're also come out and publicly announced that "Anything's for sale", multiple times and through multiple sources.

I don't see the point in selling hope. People see sense in that which already appeals to them, whether that be profoundest pessimism or the light at the end of the tunnel. I said at the beginning of the season that I was willing to be let down, in pursuit of better days; I stand by that claim, because that is what it means to me to support a football team.

Media are doing a good job of this, but the club is united in its direction. FWIW though, coming onto a footy forum & bad mouthing the coach, the players & supporters who don't walk around with a permanently miserable mindset isn't going to change a thing. It might though ruin the experience of those who like to pick out a few positives & not hate on everything Carlton.

Problem is that many of us no longer see better days coming.

We were told this rebuild was a full club rebuild, a bottom to top rebuild in every aspect of the club.

So after 3 years the questions naturally become:

1) did we rebuild the medical department or just leave the old one in place? If it was the former then it’s clear that aspect of the rebuild was done very poorly, if the latter then why didn’t we rebuild it.

2) same questions of the fitness and performance departments as above. Additionally, why was this years pre season for the club as a whole worse than the previous 2.

3) again, same questions can be asked of assistant coaches, player development, recruitment of mature aged players etc etc.

Point I’m making is, we trusted those in charge with this rebuild, and clearly this year has shown that those in charge haven’t made the best decisions regarding the above aspects of the rebuild, so why should we place our trust and faith in them again without them giving us a metric of the changes they plan to make so we can assess them on the progress of such changes next year.

As opposed to the team ruining the weekends of many supporters because the club is united and likes to pick out the few positives (green shoots) as though these positives are good enough for supporters to hang onto while it has a almost winless season?
