The single biggest issue we have isn't injury or waiting for youth to development - because those will, naturally, get better with time.

It's the how and why we can't defend the ground. We are consistently the easiest team in the competition to transition the ball and score against; and this is playing a relatively deep lying zone.

Whilst Plowman, Docherty and a core back six playing alongside one another each and every week would absolutely help continuity, what are we doing day-to-day, week-to-week on the track between absolute floggings to train a system of defence that at least *looks* organised? Sure, the replacement players aren't going to be of the quality of Docherty, but they should be far more aware of the plan than they seem to be.

It doesn't take talent to know where to stand when they have the ball, where to run when we have it etc etc

Being easily scored upon has been a huge issue for a lonnnnnggggg time.

Last year it got better but it directly reflected our own scoring even though we won more games and were leading in the last Qtr in over 5 games last season that we eventually lost.

This year is just a total write off due to a terrible injury run but still questions need to be asked of how we are so easily scored on every week and what needs to be done to rectify it and i think disposal efficiency should be No1 on the agenda because we just have to many ball butchers on the list and the defenders are not alone in this regard.

True

But it does take seasoned bodies to be able to work back hard into position when we don't have the ball.

Also, said VFL players are not of desired quality, which eventuates in more turnovers, increasing the likelihood of players being out of position defensively

Think the evolution of the gameplan has contributed to the increased turnovers

Safe defensive structures, chipping a pass to the next link has changed to a more play on style.

Need to find a better balance

Agree, totally, our desired back six hasn't been available for a single second of season 2018, but whilst I'm not expecting the Mullett's, O'Shea's and Shaw's of the world to rocket us up the ladder (their limitations are well known), anyone who comes in ought to look like more than a competition winner asked to play on a half-back flank.

Thought also Kennedy wasn't bad in clearances, even though his disposal was lacking at times.
Lobbe decent in the ruck and McKay took some good marks around the ground though also let down by poor kicking....
Kennedy is looking great. Yep forgot to mention him in my post. Disposal will get better. Lobbe rucked exceptionaly well. Mackay clunked some good marks. Showing good signs. God knows what happened to his kicking. Is such a good strike of the ball usually.

:clapping:

On the rewatch of the 2nd and 3rd quarters:

- The effort and endeavour is fantastic
- We have matched them and perhaps even outplayed them in contested situations
- Despite the scoreboard the players are still competing, enjoying themselves and celebrating with teammates
- We have absolutely no idea how to defend through the middle of the ground
- We also have absolutely no idea how to move the ball swiftly and accurately

Get through these last 5 games without too many casualties, or if there are injuries (high probability), hopefully they won't hinder pre-season training. And with those reinforcements, superior coaching and player management, we should be more competitive in 2019 but ultimately a bottom 4 team again, which is fine.

As opposed to the team ruining the weekends of many supporters because the club is united and likes to pick out the few positives (green shoots) as though these positives are good enough for supporters to hang onto while it has a almost winless season?
I think you need to get out more.

Matey stop being an academic. Get out of the tower and get onto the ground, where real life happens.
Football experts, with greater experience than you, such as Leigh Matthews and Gerard Healey have plausibly argued that teams stuck at the bottom of the ladder (so not just Carlton) need effective special assistance from the AFL. When confronted with your argument about those clubs being guilty of poor management Matthews rightly observed that you don’t get to and remain on the bottom of the ladder WITHOUT bad management.
You are entitled to your opinion.
But I want something constructive and remedial done NOW.
Perhaps Matthews should sack himself from the Brisbane board of which he has been a Director since 2013. They haven't exactly set the world on fire during this time (12th, 15th, 17th, 17th, 18th & potentially 16th or 17th this season).
