and when you think of the improvement in our young group there is a lot to look forward to. Dow Charlie McKay SPS Williamson Weitering LOB Fisher Pickett are all special talents. We are still very much in the rebuild but 2019 is the year we start moving back up
The only thing I can say about that is I've seen all of Morton, Grimes and Trengove look every bit as good as our kids have (bar Curnow) and it all come to nothing.
People have every right to be concerned after our worst season in nearly 120 years.

I felt sorry for Murph getting bumped, fairly and squarely mind you, into next week. It's so symbolic for me. He's always been a victim of his size poor fella. Time for a tap on the shoulder in terms of the captaincy.
As for the game... crikey. You've just gotta take it on the chin, juice out some positives and move on.

Cripps. This guy. Seriously. It's mindsets and attitudes like this that the club is screaming out for . You can't buy this stuff.
Love his never say die Eff You attitude.

Cue in rack. Rack thru wall.
Yeah I agree, was completely symbolic!

It was like seeing the end of an era which had battled hard but had lost and now in decline vs the heart and inspiration of the new hope, which was Cripps giving his absolute all on 1 leg ! A knocked down warrior vs a new rising goliath !

No. Crippa for Skipper. Doc for VC. No co-captains please

Reckon Doc would be an awesome Vice Chancellor! Very regal like ...

Zero faith in Garlett …. only hope its been his shoulder that has been the reason for his form this year. Otherwise …. out the door doing 94 for me ...

There have been some reasons but need to sort them out or focus. Not a guarantee to play next year if he can’t prove he wants it

Well, they hung in there. They fought until the end and that’s commendable given the circumstances.

Have to admit, that’s the first time I’ve watched Polson and thought he could make it. If he continues building his tank, size and confidence, he could be a solid small forward. That game will give him a great boost heading into the pre-season.

McKay also looked great in patches, although he made a couple of mistakes and coughed it up. 3 goals is a good return and his last few games are just the tonic he needs to take the next step in 2019.

Weitering was fantastic before he went off. Very sure hands. Composed. If he has an uninterrupted pre-season I can see him really stepping up.

Byrne has had a really impressive finish to the season. He’s a tenacious defender and can provide run. Just hope he stays healthy - clearly best 22 - Byrne/Docherty/Williamson is a nice trio of young(ish) running defenders. They could do some damage next year.

Cripps is just unbelievable. He has never played in a good midfield, and has still found a way to dominate. I look forward to seeing him during the good times.

Don't take it personally, but sometimes this year I wish I'd taken the blue pill...

Weitering showing more toward the last third of the season to me is one of the more important things to take out of the season. His first 2 thirds were dreadful. He looked disinterested and played like he was going through the motions.

Recently, he's backed himself and looks like he cares about what's going on out there. Getting to contests and winning them too.

Setting aside the worst season in a 120 years, do you think the young guys we have at the club are substandard? Charlie, Harry, Fisher, Dow, Doc, Plow, Marchbank, Weitering, SPS, LOB to name a few

That’s their right. I’m not concerned at all and am actually excited by what I see

It’s been a privilege watching Pat Cripps play footy this season. I would like to congratulate him on winning the
B & F, being named as an All-Australian, winning the MVP and topping it off with the Brownlow Medal. Richly deserved.

All have great traits but ATM Curnow is the only one who has played at an above average level, Fisher close behind. The rest will all depend on development because ATM all are handy at best.
Edit missed Doc who is a star

Definitely seems that way

We’ll agree to disagree then.
I personally think it’s the frustration that these losses bring out that is the reason for all the negativity, I know it happens with me quite often.

As for the autopsy thread of losses being more active than those of wins, I would suggest the reason for that is because of the way we are losing.

They are not 1 or 10 point losses, they are losses so bad that many times we are completely out of the game 10min into the second quarter.
You have to expect that frustrations would result in people voicing negative comments.

I am not normally a big fan of the co-captain setup as it just looks like a club afraid to make a decision.

However, i think Cripps and Doc as co-captains could work for us. i dont have problem with either as captain and vice-captain.

I would have a problem if we keep Murph on as the skipper.

Been reading for 10 years, but I forgot my log in! Been on TC and TBV long before that and posted maybe only occasionally, but reading all the disgusting negativity in the Facebook comments makes me want to balance opinions a little bit... Reading comments on here reminds me that not all Carlton supporters have become halfwits.

Probably the worst day to log in.

End of season party theme was "1980's Richmond". Some top shelf performances here, although a lot came in the Grahame Richmond outfit.

As I savour the taste of a rum & coke, let me share some thoughts on tonight's game.

As I stated in the preview thread last night, I was looking forward to the game to see what our youngsters provided. Although the result of the game was quite ugly, there was some positives from our youngsters:
Harry: could easily have kicked a bag tonight, but even 3.2 is a good return in a side which was well beaten. In a couple of years' time, he will play a similar game & finish up with numbers like 'The Seagull'.

LOB: his decision making was a bit 'how's your father' at times, but it did get better as the game went on & to find the ball 22 times is a good indicator for the future. There is no reason why he won't be accumulating 30+ within a couple of seasons.

Byrne: I still consider him a youngster on the basis he has only played 22 games. His run & carry on a night when our defence was under siege was refreshing. His 2nd & 3rd efforts were also pleasing. He will certainly benefit from having some better quality players around him in defence next year.

Weitering: was playing really well prior to being concussed. A couple of the contested marks he took were reminiscent of those I saw him taking at TAC Cup level, when he took such marks with a touch of arrogance befitting someone who knew they had the opposition covered for ability & skill.

Polson: it is starting to come together for Cam. His best game for us so far. If he can start displaying this on a consistent basis, he will tie up a small forward position in the seniors.

Cripps: probably not a youngster anymore, but what an absolute champion he is. There was not one player on the ground tonight who even comes close to where Crippa is at. He monstered the game whenever he possibly could, but unfortunately did not have the quality back up to capitalise on his efforts. We are witnessing a once in a generation player here. Enjoy it for what it is.

Some other thoughts:

Rowe: have admired his determination & his totally unconditional football. The odds he beat to play for us in the first place & then to fight back after a serious injury would have beaten many. Sadly I think the frenetic pace of forward entries nowadays is too much for the big fellow to cope with. As much as he has indicated he wants to play on, now might be a good time for him to take that final bow & move on to the next stage of his life, with credibility intact.

TDK: found it all a little bit overwhelming tonight. Did not get to the right spots like he did last week & was well off the pace. Overall though, he is well ahead of where we would have expected him to be at the end of his first season on an AFL list.

A quick observation on my ex favorite player, Bryce Gibbs. He is not showing the same intensity which he did last year & I am not convinced he is enjoying his footy at Adelaide in the same way he did at Carlton. Tonight's game was, to quote the younger generation, "meh". Normally in a dominant performance by his team, Gibbs would be at the forefront with high disposal numbers, tackles, clearances & hitting the scoreboard. I think even he would regard his game as a good game & nothing more.

Anyway as we look forward to the off season, I will again point out that even before we hit the free agency/trade period & the draft, we are already able to add an AA defender to our defence for 2019. Docherty will bring significant improvement to our defence from Round 1 next year. I'm sure the likes of Weiters, Marchbank, Byrne, Simmo, Plowman will be extremely grateful to have him back out there with them.
