Assuming the following

Gov wants Carlton
Carlton wants Walsh
Lachie Neale wants Brisbane
Freo wants Hill (at 13)

Brisbane get Neale for pick 4
Freo get 13 and 20 for pick 4
Gold Coast get 8 and Carlton’s 2019 first for 2
Gold Coast can also have CEY/Wilson etc if they want steak knives
Carlton get Gov and 2 for 1, 26 and exchange of 2019 1sts with Crows
Crows get 1, 4 and 26 for Gov, 8, 13, 20 and 2019 first

Should secure Luko and Rankine

With Adelaide’s slide down the ladder, perhaps our 2019 first would be of interest to some clubs. I guess it depends if the club can spin we will be around the same mark or not.

Adelaide’s 2019 1st and 2018 pick 37 for essendons 2018 pick 8.

CEY and 68 for early 3rd round pick - either of gold coasts 38, norths 39, Brisbane’s 40 or gold coasts 41. Let’s just say 41. Values CEY at pick 45 on points.

Gov and 41 to Carlton for their PP (11?) and 25. On points this values Gov at pick 7. I think he is worth pick 10, contracted 7-8 seems right.

Adelaide then have 7, 8, 11, 14, 19, 25

Adelaide’s 11, 19 and Hartigan for gold coasts 2 or Stkildas 3. This values Hartigan at about pick 49 on points for Gold Coast, or pick 70 for st Kilda. Hartigan might be open to a move with Keath getting game time ahead of him. I’ll just say stkildas 3.

Adelaide then have 2/3, 7, 8, 14, 25.

Adelaide’s 8 and 25 for Brisbane’s pick 4

Adelaide gain 3, 4
lose 2019 1st, Gov, CEY, Hartigan, 37, 68

Essendon gain Adelaide’s 2019 1st, 37
Lose pick 8.

Gold Coast gain 68, CEY
Lose 41

Carlton gain Gov, 41
Lose 11, 25

Stkilda gain 11, 19, Hartigan
Lose pick 3

Brisbane gain 8, 25
Lose pick 4.

Adelaide winners Carlton slight losers. But that is what happens when a player is contracted.

Adelaide enter draft with 3, 4, 7 and 14 to hopefully take Luko, Rankine, Rozee and Hately.

If we could pull that off... ...wow, I’d be getting ‘Hamish’ put on the back of my guernsey.

Getting back to those, it is a difficult exercise but I'd go similar traits ( not necessary same level)

Lukoscious - N Riewoldt - endurance / running patterns . Better kick , one of the best to come through by foot
Rankine - GAJ - skill set . On complete other level to mere humans . Completely genetically blessed for the game
Walsh - Trent Cotchin - inside and outside
M King - Tom Lynch GC former - dominant tall forward that is mobile
B King - ?
Blakey - Buddy Franklin - X factor and brilliance I50
Smith - Patrick Dangerfield - powerful explosive mid
Thomas - Jack Martin - elite defensively , not overly productive offensively
Rozee - Will Hayward - smart forward that is dangerous in air on ground and closes space to pressure with speed
Hately - David Mundy - balanced tall mid that cruises across turf and effortlessly racks up disposals
Jones - Rory Sloane - small, not overly quick but supreme competitor and gets job done
Dursmaa - Brodie Smith - running half back metres gained player with penetrative kick
Williams - Peter Wright - a ruck physique that sees himself as a forward > ruck
Caldwell - James Worpel - gritty powerful smaller inside mid with some toughness and natural footballer
Bytel - Scott Pendlebury - looks to have plenty of time
Kelly - Jack Maibaum - competitive key defender that won't create much offence
Quaynor - Jason Johanisson - speedy running half back
Valente - Sam Mitchell - slow but finds time helped by being dual sided and doesn't waste ball
McFadyen - Hugh Greenwood - struggles with endurance/ speed but contested ball king that can get dangerous in air forward
Briggs - Charlie Dixon - aggressive tackler that can play ruck and forward and lacks a bit of polish

As I said doesn't mean as good but have similar traits with each other in some ways . It's pretty tough exercise but I reckon mine are better than Buckys

As for Ben King he's projected as a 200cm key defender - do they even exist ? Maybe he ends up in a totally different role and something for clubs to think about

Expect criticism so shoot away for any of those that have seen these guys live or on TV a few times
If I was to do it (* means I haven't seen enough)
Lukoscious - N Riewoldt - Not the contested side as much but better skills
Rankine - Akermanis
Walsh - Treloar
M King - Tom Lynch GC
B King - Basically same a Max
Blakey - ?. His midfield ability sets him apart from most forwards. Maybe a elite Josh Caddy but I'm iffy on that.
Smith - Shiel
Thomas - *
Rozee - Faster, more defensive Robby Gray
Hately - David Mundy - I like this comparison but I'll add Heppel to the mixing pot, also kind of similar.
Jones - *
Dursmaa - Brodie Smith - yep
Williams - *
Caldwell - *
Bytel - Nathan Jones? Iffy again, haven't seen enough but he isn't quite pendles from what I've seen.
Kelly - *
Quaynor - *
Valente - Yeah Mitchell like, would also compare to Lyons
McFadyen - *
Briggs - *

All this talk worries me a little. People are suggesting giving up a top 10 pick from Gov, pick 7, pick 19, the Melbourne pick for Lever, 2019 first and others for 2 players. Atkins and CEY have been thrown in there. CEY is depth but Atkins isnt the worst getting around. All this for some kids with hype around them...

McCartin, Boyd, Patton, Swallow All had hype, all were number 1 selections, all have been a little underwhelming even given the injuries.

I really hope all the hype is right and if Adelaide land Luko, he turns out to be the next N Reiwoldt, not the next Watts or Gumbleton. And Rankine, I hope he is the next Daicos, not the next Tambling or Sumner.

We have made some great selections over the years with Doedee at 17, McGovern 43, Mrouch 23, Laird Rookie, Sloane 44 etc.

The club has a chance to go in with a top 10 pick from Gov, pick 7, pick 12 and pick 19. If they wanted, could also trade 2019 first to get another first round this year. If Adelaide get pick 12 or better for Gov, we have the strongest draft hand this year based on points. Currently without Gov, only Carlton and Brisbane have stronger hands.

I guess what I am saying is we could add 4-5 kids from this draft to our list within the top 20 selections. This is what Geelong did - Bartel at 8, Kelly at 17, Johnson at 24, Ablett FS in 2001, then 2002 added Mackie and Lonergan in the first 2 rounds.

In the past 5 or so years we have picked Mrouch at 23, Lever at 14, Milera at 11, Doedee at 17 and Smith at 14 and Talia at 13. This totals 6700 draft points. Currently on points for our draft picks we have 4236 (7, 12, 19, 37), add in the Gov trade and possible 2019 future 1st trade and we have around 7000 points on the table with 6 picks.

I guess my question is would you take the red pill or the blue pill?

Wheel and deal picks and Gov to go all in on Luko, and hope to snare Rankine and possibly Hately or Rozee (3 players)
or
Stock up on as many top 20 picks as possible and draft 6 kids in this draft, some from SA and some not, but miss out on the big fish Luko.

As much as I love the idea of having Luko in crows colours, the thought of 5 -6 top 20 selections this year coupled with Milera, Doedee, Gooch, Murphy and Fog gives 10 players all in the same age bracket of 21 and under who can develop together. Its the ingredients of a dynasty...

Finally someone gets it. Stack the list in a strong draft is the way to go. See who falls to our picks and take them. Luko and Rankine could do a knee in the pre season training, where does does that leave you?

The dockers will use their first rounders this year for hogan from the dees.
It seems McGovern is heading for the blues I'm not sure why as they have talent fwd and back should they ask for Mackay or weitering?
Luko appears more like a James hird type can play either end and put himself where his team needs him.
I would be chasing hard to get him, so u give the crouch bros for pick 1 and 22 and get as much of the under 18 champions on the list as the mids still have Sloane, cey Greenwood, Gibbs and throw laird in there

Are you ****ing serious? I didn't think it was possible to put that much drivel in 4 lines.

FFS Playstation trades almost never ever pan out, Clubs keep it relatively simple when they trade.
Very rarely do you have multiple club deals these days either.

Sorry to intrude but GC stated already several times that this year they will go for top talent. I can't any scenario GC would trade pick 2. In my opinion with pick 2 GC will pick Walsh/Lukosius whoever is left. Pick 3 if they have it GC will go with Smith or Rankine.

Fiery game here at Mars Stadium with plenty of niggle, Ned McHenry's name already in the book, Walsh finding plenty of it again for the Falcons, for the Cannons tall Hanna and West doing well.
Falcons 18 - Cannons 14 at 1/4 time

Still with Luko or Rankine.

If you have a chance to get 2 of the most talented SA kids in the last 20 years, you make sure you explore every Avenue to do so.

Cost is way too much IMO. Rozee or Hately will be available @8 just stay put and their talent level is not to be sneezed at. Plenty of really good Vic talent around those picks as well. I've been around too long to get sucked in by the hype surrounding draft picks. Some are touted and bomb out. Mitch Thorp is a classic example.

Still plenty of niggle here at Mars Stadium Falcons 4.3 27 - Cannons 3.5 23 at half time.
For the Falcons Walsh a bit quieter that quarter, McHenry buzzing around and in everything, tall mid Cooper Stephens doing well and one for next year.
For the Cannons 1st round prospect Curtis Taylor more involved in that quarter with a nice goal, Riley West good around the stoppages, 2019 prospect mid Daniel
Mott doing really well.
Ned McHenry really growing on me.

Great goal from West just then in those conditions.

I have a lot of issues with these two posts:

Firstly stacking the list with drafted talent is a terrible idea right now (as it is in a lot of situations), unless you believe this list should be slashed and burnt down to the ground in 2020. Now that's not going to happen as majority of our key players are in the side until the end of 2020-2021. This means that spots are going to be hard to come by (as you're relying on blooding spots) and stacking a list with talent in a situation where spots are hard to come by is only going to lead to under development of players, or players leaving after 2 years as simply put, they're caught up in that logjam and another team offers a quicker path (which is the single worse situation for a club to be in as you're forced into a loss). The amount of prospects any club has needs to be managed with how quickly a spot can be opened up, two prospects (3 to 4 if you include Fogarty/Gallucci who are a year/2 years advanced) can be managed rather easily. 4-5 would resign players to having no path until season 3-4 (especially if we get good talent in next year).

The second issue here is the payoff isn't as big as it could be. Sure Rozee and Hately may be nothing to sneeze at talent wise, however, Luko/Rankine is a step above that. Every club who has won a premiership has had a small core of superstars to build around. Not only that, but I would say potential superstars from SA should be such a priority for us as for three reasons - firstly this state has a track record that cannot be relied on, and this could just be a small oasis in the middle of the desert, secondly they are cheaper salary wise for their entire career if we draft them now (as you don't deal with the excess cost to attract them back, and you have them settled from the get go) and thirdly it is much easier to attract talents like Hately/Rozee back to SA as they aren't at the pinnacle talent wise.

The third issue is "what if they injure themselves" and the answer is so what? If you're worried about that you may as well fold as a club. What if Sloane has a knee reconstruction, are you going to be angry we signed him? It's a known risk and hell your plan could have every single one of them go down with knee recos week 1 of preseason. Similar to the "oh they could be the next Mitch Thorp" again the issue is really "so what?", you got the best talent you could have gotten and it didn't work out. That a shrug and move on thing as no one will ever begrudge a side for going for the best possible result it could get, nor has a side died wondering.

In essence this is being scared of a "risk" you're actually advocating a path that has much more risk and less payout.
