Pmsl at the media and the AFL.
Blues take a position that they won't ask for a PP.
Media takes opposite approach of any Blues position and calls CFC irresponsible for not asking; you clearly need a PP, they say.
AFL, playing it safe uses 'convention' as requiring a formal request before a PP can be given.
Its a shambles, in which everyone's a chief including the Scott brothers; no Indians anywhere other than at Princes Park.
We should have just stuck to our original position; we may still have ended up with the 'out of ND assistance' being speculated now.

The AFL backtracked when they realised they were in error, and Clubs did not have to apply for special assistance under the Rules. Gil expressly acknowledged that his advice was they were wrong about needing to apply (but didn’t want to be quite that clear). It was always within the AFL’s power to require Clubs to apply for special assistance. Arguably they should have just done that rather than fudge the ‘convention’ point. Anyway we are where we are, and the AFL will probably do what it always does - amend the Rules to give itself wide another absolute discretions to do what it wants. This seems clever, but it leads the AFL to being seen to, and actually, making it up as it goes. Ultimately this detracts from its standing.

Pick 1 for MM + Pick 7
Pick 7 for Shiel

Turns 1 into Shiel and MM. Your list management say the next step is recruiting a certain age bracket which would fit the above trade.

Leaves 23 and 24 to work for Setterfield or the draft.

Um, what?

I've seen this said a few times, but I really don't see how. Why exactly would SOS be any less than honest to both McGovern and Adelaide before this news in saying to them that what our offer is depends entirely on our PP application's success/failure, and that what we offer to them would be based purely off our available resources? If we offer pick 26, and they say no, truly who cares? McGovern? He's out of there or they have to deal with a) a potential lawsuit from a player attempting to sever a contract based on OHS law potentially contravened by the Collective Minds camp, or b) Hawthorn, and probably accept less money. They ain't keeping him. He doesn't want to be there.

Describe to me exactly how we're committed in that circumstance.
There has obviously been assurances from both sides. There is no backing out now.

SOS will get a good deal done.

As has been highlighted previously, richmond or other top sides can take a top tier player (eg lynch) for no national draft currency cost what so ever - but team/s languishing at the bottom of the ladder are put through the wringer for any form of assistance.

Come on what is one state league player going to achieve...

The guys in the state leagues are usually there for a reason.

While the Suns are expected to use the handouts to select mature-age players, the Blues are set to explore the opportunity to create a bidding war between clubs....

noice

Doesn't this tactic go out the window if we select a state league player other clubs don't want?

I reiterate, if we have been honest throughout, how does that commit us to him beyond the vicissitudes of standard contract negotiation?

"mitch, we are going to do what it takes to get you, but I won't do that"

The Age is a bit more definitive. The Suns and us each get 2 players, no PP

Still doesn’t explain if there is a mini-draft or we can just list them like Delisted Free Agents
Nice find....Jake Niall may look like a bit of a different dude, but he's normally on the mark.

As a guess, I would imagine it would work like the pre season draft....Blues (hopefully) get first selection, followed by GCS , then back to us etc....not sure if you can use them to trade though.

AFL just makes the rules up on the run...has anyone ever seen the magic formula they use to determine the pick a club gets when they lose a player under free agency??
