I would rather Josh Kennedy and Trent Cotchin for the last 10 years on field than Judd. That's what we could have had.

I said 66:33 in WCE favour, still means Juddy has been great for us, but Kennedy and Cotchin together have been greater.

Mind you, I think the same will be for Shiel, Walsh & Setterfield (similar to Kennedy+Cotchin) will be better than Shiel (Judd). Just one man's opinion.
We gave them pick 3, not pick 2.

I got a good feeling about this one.

Here’s hoping.. interesting on his actual height (6’ or more) but playing point guard should enable good skills/awareness in traffic and previous leadership traits as well. Exciting HFF would be ideal.
Something like Greenwood from Adelaide & we’ve done A-OK.
“Standing at 185cm tall, Owies played APS school football at St Kevins College until year nine - mostly as a midfielder and a part-time forward – before he switched his focus to basketball.

The point guard has also represented Australia at junior level, including at youth world championships. He won a silver medal with Australia at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championships in Dubai, and was vice-captain of that team”

So Walsh is more like a Tom Mitchell or Cotchin consistent production while Smith is more your explosive mid like Judd or Dangerfield?

What a great choice to have

Walsh is akin to Cotchin/[Tom/Sam]Mitchell with a Tom Scully run-all-day tank.
Smith more inside grunt and bursty, a little Judd/Dow about him.

Smith more ready built now body wise.

Smith will have more highlights, but Walsh will gather more possessions.
If interchanges are ever reduced the value of Walsh goes way way up.

I'd love both, but I prefer Walsh alongside Cripps/Dow/Kennedy/Fish & Setterfield.

Good thing you didn't tell them about Mikeockerts.

Haha...light globe moment....always thought it was Mike Ockerts as in that’s his name lol

That’s as funny as calling a horse miface and watching the women at the races bring it home enthusiastically....

Trade radio was saying, with some conviction as well, that as soon as Whitfield is out of contract (or possibly before) he's straight to the Hawks.

Those pricks are starting to shit me again.

I don't give a rats arse I'm done with trading with those campaigners.

Reckon Dow will be better than Kelly anyway.

Enlighten me to how we could have had Kennedy + Cotchin?

We were always taking Kreuzer with #1, Cotchin went at #2 to the Tigers. We gave the Eagles #3 in which they picked Masten.

Do you want to make the case that Kennedy + Masten > Judd???

It’s a slow burner with Mike. Never saw it either - think Thy pointed it out, again after some time. It’s a good’n.

It's quite divided isn't it?

I wouldn't have liked Walsh quite as much had have I not watched him live.
Saw him through broadcast games and wondered to myself; How come this number 2 is in just about every frame and after watching him live, I worked it out.
He just doesn't stop and uses smarts to position himself exceptionally well, anywhere around the ground. Very clever player and hard working player even though he doesn't look as 'energetic; as Smith does.

If interchanges came down Sam Walsh would be absolutely untaggable, especially in 2nd halfs.

If not, Walsh is still a running machine, he goes from contest to contest to contest to contest.

He would also be massive for our training and fitness, he would lift standards, as in provide a target to reach.

Repeating, Rodney Dangerfield said that Sam Walsh was AFL ready this year when he trained with the Cats during the year.

Couldn't have had Cotchin. Kreuzer was a PP and Richmond were spooners hence they had second pick from memory.

Edit: beaten by Blue_fusion.

I'm reading this morning that setters was on $400k at GWS and Scully will get to hawthorn for a second or third round pick - wtf is going on at the Giants??????

A couple things.

Back-ended contracts from a couple years ago are now coming home to roost (e.g Jeremy Cameron). Hence, the firesale. But GWS offloaded strategically. They don't value Shiel that highly (compared with Whitfield, Coniglio and Kelly).

Also, Scully's ankle could well be worse than lead on. A gamble to take him, I would pass.

Never let facts get in the way of a good yarn ;)

I reckon there would be an agreement in place between SOS and Reid.

Brisbane and St Kilda are trying to bend the Crows over just to move up the draft a couple of places, which doesn't even guarantee the Crows the player they want.

A gentleman's agreement will be in place to work together to get the Crows Jack Lukosius without having to overpay. In return, we'll get a little something on the side to get us back into the draft.
It's called draft tampering.

Edit: beaten by a bigger house.

Yes, we could have had Cotchin. We could have drafted him with our Priority Pick instead of Kruz and kept Josh Kennedy.

Past is the past. We should not have hired Mick Malthouse either. Not worth debating here.

Thankfully, we are doing things professionally now.

A lot of interest in pick 1. We are happy to just sit back and wait for now. Our preference is to be able to draft Walsh, if we can be certain of doing that and getting something extra we will (e.g trading to Adelaide clubs with us getting pick 2 back or pick 3 back if they get 1&2). The other option is to be certain of being able to draft Walsh OR Smith. For that to happen we will need significant overs.

We are in zero rush and the offers are getting better by the day.

Just thinking about a possible pick 1 trade scenario:
Crows give 8, 13, 16 for GC picks 2, 19 & 29

Crows give picks 2 & 29 for pick 1 & future 3rd

Crows end up with 1, 19, 21 & 83 + future 3rd (& guarantee Lukosius)
GC end up with picks 3, 8, 13, 16, 24, 59
Blues end up with 2, 29, 69, 71, 77 (still get Walsh)

We would probably need another 2nd or third rounder thrown our way, which is probably why something like this would go down on the last day when all player trades are done. Otherwise, I think everyone wins in a trade like this.

Not sure if GC have academy kids they want to take this year. If so, they lose in this trade scenario (in terms of points)

If back ended contracts is the issue they would have known that before resigning Kelly last year which then means that they knew twelve months ago that they were going to have to get rid of contracted players.

This is not list management, it is commodity management and a ******* disgrace.

As a point of interest: wonder what would have happened if all players wanted to honour their contracts?

Shit smacks into fan real hard.

Can someone outline what SOS said on trade radio that has people certain we'll trade pick one ?

Not certain.

He just noted that he is willing to listen to offers. A few verbal offers have been made, but nothing concrete.

We wants other teams to come to him. If not, we'll just use it ourselves. Note, Gold Coast foolishly gave up pick 2 last year for Lachie Weller, so stupid trades do happen. But I would be shocked if Gold Coast is stupid again.
