Until the interchange mess is fixed congestion will still be a problem for spectacle of the game.

6-6-6 will just mean a few more goals come from centre clearances but no reason still won't see 36 players in one part of ground that become the norm for big chunks of games since interchange mess was allowed to happen.

I hope congestion remains bad. Steve Hocking's rules are like painting the toenails of an elephant.

Hopefully the AFL are then forced to reduce interchange from 90 to 45. Yes, I agree with KB.

Sam Walsh then becomes untaggable in 2nd halfs since he is the Energiser Bunny.

Gold Coast don't have a future 2nd either.

People keep forgetting that.

Neither us nor Gold Coast have a 2019 2nd rounder. Hence, neither us nor them can trade 2019 1st rounders unless a 2nd is involved.

My prediction, live trading will be a great big fizzle at the 2018 AFL draft.

Ever heard of a 3rd club getting involved in a trade

I think the AFL would allow it with GCS and Carlton due to the young lists. It would be in their interests as well to accelerate the rebuild.

Whereas someone like Hawthorn list they wouldn’t which is the principle theory of the rule to stop clubs being destroyed by bad management

Yep - they're the types that will jump on board a successful side (see: Steven May and Brayden Preuss).

Would love to develop our own, and we may do that with TDK in the ruck, Macreadie down back, and BSOS a possible wild card. But they're a hit or miss prospect, so if those options don't pan out it just means we hit the market when we're playing finals.
We will be adding Hugh Goddard before DFA periods are over.

Resting ruck-men more the case than forwards, aren't they?
Including Natanui, they average .7 goals a game which may not be bad, but they don't really form what we'd call a three tall set-up.
Kreuzer averages a little less but even if he did clock it up to .7, I'm not sure I'd be calling part of the forward set-up.

Darling at 191 is quite mobile and not sure whether I'd call him a tall any more than I would call a 191cm Stringer or De Goey, but maybe some do and it then slots neatly into a three-tall forward line structure. Anyway, we've veered way off track in a draft thread. :)

Harker, you know it is more than just the goals that they kick.

Having a mobile resting ruckman that is a dangerous option, allows true key forwards to be able to compete without a 3rd defender being able to intercept mark/impact the contest. Go back through the Hawks premiership years, guys like Hale being a viable option allowed the likes of Buddy, Roughy, Gunston to be more effective

When you add the likes of Darling, De Goey, Stringer, Walker types to play as 3rd talls, makes a forward line much more dangerous

TDK/McKay, then Curnow and McGovern. I like the look of that moving forward

I wish they would just hurry up and do it 10 interchanges per quarter is plenty and is the only thing that will adequately deal with congestion and get us back to the sort of footy that is worth watching with one on one contests and high marking goal kicking Kpf.

Biggest damper to congestion would be umpires not waiting 20 seconds for all the players to arrive before a ball up.

Second biggest change to stop congestion is get rid of the nomination for ruck. You’d remove another few seconds it gives players to get to the stoppage.

I mean seriously. Just penalise a team if more than one goes up for the contest. Who gives a **** about nominating. It adds nothing.

Agreed.

Reducing the interchanges will have no effect on congestion, NIL, NADA
It'll open the game up for running players with a noteworthy tank. Around the ball generally, it won't make much difference. More blowouts as teams tire and individual brilliance will be accentuated with reduced interchange. This will last a while as coaches plot to combat and players get fitter. It is why there is no place for the fat, lumbering forwards in rugby league anymore. Too slow but the game realigned itself.

Think about the following

2 players, similar pace and endurance, resting 3 times a quarter = arrive to a contest at the same time

2 players, similar pace and endurance, resting once a quarter = ??

I don't buy into this entire super draft hype we hear but I was talking to a parent of one of the Pioneers yesterday and he was telling me Caldwell is almost unanimously more highly rated than Dow by people evolved. If true it could be a pretty special group

Just want to throw some thoughts out there on this comment.

Caldwell was viewed as a potential top 10 selection heading into this season. He also missed most of the season due to soft tissue injuries.

Dow really bolted up the draft board into top 10 contention midway through his draft year. So at the same stage a year prior, they're probably looking at a more rounded Caldwell thinking he's the better prospect.

Now in addition to this, sometimes, and I say sometimes, supporters and people associated with a club tend to overstate the quality of injured players. I've seen it here on this forum when the likes of Pickett, Lang etc. are injured.

Not saying the above comment in bold is wrong, I'm just saying that circumstances can sometimes make us lean towards a certain direction even though it may not necessarily be correct.

Moving away?

Vardy/Lycett(now Hickey)
Kennedy
Darling

While they have Allen x2, Brander, Waterman

Pies then realise the importance and re-sign Moore, when previously they were considering trading him.

Tall forward lines will always buck a fad(Tigers), they have just evolved into being more agile

Then they go and get Lynch!

It’s the same reason Sydney struggled once Reid/Tippett went down...

3 talls is the way of the future, with one of them being able to play midfield or back when needed...

If H starts getting the 3rd best tall defender, look out what he will do!!

The beauty of our defensive unit is we can cover the talls but the smalls, not sold yet...!

I agree, talls still need to be super agile, Marchbank, Macreadie, Willo tick those boxes. It is why I would prefer to keep Lamb on the rookie list, think he did very well back there, when we had injuries

Oh Lordy!!! The Walsh Fanboy Club isn't going to be impressed.......at all. :p

You're a cheeky minx Aphrodite :thumbsu:

If you keep saying that i'm sure it's going to get funnier on every round. It's already hilarious.
Seriously though, what does that even mean and what are you getting at?

Is SOS a fanboy also? What about the everyone else that rates Walsh? Settle down Smith fanboy. Don't be too upset if we don't get "the best player in the draft"
