If Gibbons plays (and I expect him to) our midfield/small forwards will be Cripps Kennedy Curnow SPS Dow Setterfield Walsh Fisher Cuningham Murphy O'Brien & Gibbons. Polson & Thomas could be the small forward options. Example

Kruezer Kennedy Curnow
Murphy Cripps O'Brien

SPS Charlie Gibbons
McGovern McKay Polson

On bench: Dow Walsh Fisher. Try and fit in Cuningham Thomas Setterfield (when fit) as well. Then Stocker Lang LeBois & Fasolo.

Not Bad and I don't see goals (or defensive pressure) as an issue. :)
How about your 22 for rd1 atm?
You've almost listed your full team anyway :)

Yeh they look in great shape. My point is I seriously can’t remember anyone here ever gushing over Hawthorn players conditioning before. They were obviously in great shape but I think it’s a classic case of people getting caught up in the hype.
Would I prefer anyone over Russell? No, but I don’t expect him to work miracles.
I see where you are coming from, because the hype has been pretty full on.

From what I have seen (and what other posters have observed) the entire training set-up has changed, and really does look way more professional.
  • There is an urgency to each training session and match sim
  • There is no down-time between drills
  • The increase in 'voice' can be clearly heard
  • Each player is on an individual program (some pulled from training to do extra running)
  • Coaches & players timing runs to the second
  • Body transformation of the majority of players
  • Dramatic improvement in running of known strugglers - JSOS & McKay
What I really like is the training structure - running the boys really hard to the point of fatigue - then ending with a skills session or goal kicking practice when fatigued. This is invaluable and is something we suffered from severely in 2018 when we would be over-run by the opposition in the last 5 minutes of a quarter due to poor skill execution/decision making/inability to run with the opposition when fatigued.

Russell is extremely hands-on during these sessions; his DNA is all over them. This is where the hype has come from..

Has anyone got some mail on Williamson and how he's tracking
I did have high hopes for him cementing a spot this year but reading alot of posters there is a high degree of uncertainty.
The CFC website injury update was last updated 15th Jan !

I’ll go back & like your original post.. arent most of our list the kids though ?
The change is pretty dramatic in that top third of the list where you'd expect their body to be mature, but I anticipated this was in the offing based on some sporting trends that had started emerging elsewhere.

I would suggest there's another element that we've fully embraced this season (and perhaps more than any club before this point in time). Based on what I've seen soccer, expect big things, even if other clubs follow suit.

I get the feeling the story after the first few rounds is going to be gee doesnt Murphy look fit and free out there. Uninterupted preseasom, weight of the captaincy off his shoulders. Decision made and contact locked in place. Can enjoy his footy and he looks super lean from the photos ive seen. Some bigger bodies coming through he doesnt need to be the big mid and get rag dolled all day long. My feeling is you will see Kruze, Cripps and Curnow with Murph/Kennedy rotating and Dow/Walsh rotating. Just think hes poised for a big year and people to remember why he was at one point the best player in the AFL.

you have to be joking

Probs referring to AFLCA player of the year in 2011

No doubt that in 2011 he was considered a top 5 mid

It's unlikely that will happen (he won't be considered a top 5 mid at Carlton in 2020), but he could reach 2017 bnf form, he looked real smooth when I saw him at training.

I wonder how he would he rated if he'd gone to Hawthorn or Collingwood?

2011 - coaches votes him number 1. Umpires voted Dane swan. So it’s a fair point. I actually rate the AFLCA in front of the umpires because the umpires only choose midfielders who accumulate and/or have been noticed over consecutive years. Definitely puts Cripps in the conversation on 2019.

Soapy doesn't do Best 22s. He's all about the Best 87, incorporating the full playing list, coaching group, medical team, board and any likely recruits for next year.

All the media attention has been a directive from Liddle to our media department to allow more access to players/ coaches and the club. He wants the supporters both non member and members to fall in love with Carlton again and feel included. Bolts needed some convincing, but is now fully on board with this.

Open training probably the 1st hurdle for Bolt’s that has been overcome since mid-December. Every man & his dog can watch Collingwood train (3 teams coaches mentioned as watching on for their recent match sim), there’s gotta be ways to easily acclimatise.

Swear jar out as well could have been problem for him as well. Prone to drop a few at training isn’t he...?

Hats off to Liddle, now for the match day to excite on-field.
