For the record, last year we voted for a Top 8 of:

Port
Richmond
GWS
Sydney

Adelaide
Geelong
Essendon
Melbourne

So we got 5/8, in 2017 we got 6/8 and 2016 we got 5/8. So it seems that every year there's a few surprises. Let's hope we're one of those this year.

Worst part of our ladder though was that only 9% of us predicted the eventual premiers to make the 8, and only 3 voters picked the other grand finalist Collingwood.

No one picked the premier or the coleman medallist in their predictions.

No one picked J Westhoff for the B&F either.

Chrizzt, tribey and Marmozet picked the brownlow medallist.

My predictions for 2019

Very interesting...

I think that they’re due for a good year after their past 3 years and their forward line looks decent now. Their draw must be okay too because every time I played ladder predictor I always had them winning a few games.

Not to mention that you may as well go bold with footy predictions. Who would have had West Coast and Collingwood in the Top 3 last year? :p

im going with richmond, home MCG finals, Tom Lynch, a very clean and efficient team with a great defence, the 666 rules will help them a lot i think

I see the top 4 being (in no particular order) - West Coast, Adelaide, Richmond, Collingwood. Those first three are just such strong, well organised units with major home ground advantages, they should all be aiming for top 4. Collingwood I think have plenty of improvement in them and should do enough to at least hold their ground from 2018.

For the remainder of the top 8, I'm thinking Melbourne, Essendon, Geelong, GWS. The Dees might plateau a bit this year I reckon. Essendon have an overwhelming level of talent now that should at least see them play finals. Same with GWS. Geelong are just immensely favoured by fixturing/umpiring so you can just about lock them in every year.

Hawthorn and Sydney seem to be transitioning but it still wouldn't surprise to see either play finals. North are the only other team I see competing for finals.

I'm going the cop out route and not doing any predictions until 3 or 4 rounds in, to see which sides adjust or are affected by the new rules the most. Adelaide for instance I want to see how they go when it's 22 players, whether they select O'Brien and have two rucks, but two players who do jack s**t elsewhere on the ground. Or only play Jacobs and do they struggle later in quarters / the game, when he tires. Pretty much almost every side that doesn't have two decent rucks (most sides), how they go once they go up against a side that does, when it's not unlimited interchanges and bigger benches like the JLT.
