What's with the nervous tigers in here? They were basically handed 10 goals last year with 5 of the worst 50m penalty goals and the worst start to a game in history? We blew them off the park outside of those 20 minutes of footy.

Spot on

36 (17.19) scoring shots to 20 (15.5) last season

if it wasnt for their bullshit gifted goals and their accuracy it would have been a belting, and thats despite the shocking start

How are we next level? lol

The fact that you are so confident in knocking us off is FAR more arrogant than us expecting to win
I’m not arrogant. I’m delusional...

I’ll tell you how you’re next level. For the past 30 odd years, my Richmond nut job mate has predicted you’d win the flag. Every year! On that awful awful awful day in 2017, when football turned its back on me, he said “I told you, Coach. I told ya”

There’s a photo of me at the punt road entrance. Security have been alerted to not let me near the place...

Maybe you can vouch for me and we go together.
Sounds like a date :)

It's a good thing we have been jumped in the 2 jlt games. We should be a lot better prepared this year.

Think you need an abacus

5 x 50's = 10 goals?

Anyway, I’ve intruded enough. Thank you for your hospitality.
You are clearly the better team. But there are no guarantees in footy. If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster. Or a “microwave”.

Let’s hope it’s a great game...

By “great game”, I mean Carlton by plenty. Talk soon.

Don't think Balta plays based on the comments made the last few days
I agree, but I don’t understand why. Maybe his first half against Hawthorn has hurt his chances after all.

Look, he has a bit to go and I don’t think anyone of us should be too carried away by his 2nd quarter against Melbourne in the JLT, but I really want to see how he plays alongside Riewoldt and Lynch. A three-pronged forward line + Nankervis is the way to go for us this year IMO because that will help us contest better aerially and will give us a better pinch-hitter in the ruck.

Based on Hardwick’s comments though, if both Lynch and Riewoldt play, then we probably won’t see Balta in the side unfortunately.

28 degrees on Thursday means we're likely to take an extra runner over another tall. If Lynch doesn't play the I expect Nankervis to play Lynch role and Soldo to ruck against Phillips.

First game of the season always sees a faster than normal pace as the players are raring to go and having the extra runner like Markov who can slot into HB or on to a wing gives us the extra rotation through the middle and also means the ability to use Dusty deep forward for a rest.

Remember in the season proper there is the interchange cap which us another reason why I don't see us taking in any debutants at all.

I’m not sure about Markov’s inclusion though based on his decision-making in the JLT. It’s nice to be able to run all day but I’d have liked him to show more poise when he was near the ball.

I wouldn’t be upset if he was included because he is not necessarily a bad player, but I’d rather have a player like Balta that has the ability to split open Carlton’s defence even if it is only for a quarter with his size and strength.

It’s what we need against Collingwood’s defence the following week too IMO.

You scored the first 5 goals before we got going then add 5 from the 50m penalties

Yeah plus the 5 goals that you wont get this time in the first 10 minutes of the match after we just woke up from our premiership celebrations

I know we started well and it's not as if we didn't kick anymore goals for the rest of the game, so that point matters little

In fact it can be argued that once we sustained injuries to Kennedy in the first quarter and Kreuzer not long after that momentum changed.

Looking forward to the game, we have a stronger side than last year, so I am expecting a very competitive game

have you not seen the new and 'improved' 50m rules? whatever happened last year, add another 3 or 4 i reckon.

Genuine question, who is your ruckman with Kreuzer not playing?

I rate Kreuzer, he makes you a 2-3 goal better side.

I suspect we will select Phillips, while he is a good tap ruckman he is inept around the ground.

I would prefer Lobbe especially against Nankervis as he will at least respect him and compete around the ground
