you're confusing me - but you seem to have back-peddled a little from the no idea comment.......

Not at all! I don’t think he has much idea on match day. They went a man down, we had all the momentum, and he went for the slow ball movement game plan around the boundaries again.

82 voters so far. Only 70 like the look of Cripps.

The dozen of you who didn't please head on down to spec savers. Bloke is the best player in the league.
Honestly he's the one dude who could make me jump the fence.

Ed has no place in this team, really exposed by his inability to move quickly when required. That and the three missed set shots may have cost the team the game, going in ahead at three quarter time means so much more than behind by 13 points. Didn't take advantage of them missing Rance, maybe that's a "not having a runner" thing... Really was a 15 point game, so therefore very encouraging, this was 1 versus 18 in the season, much closer than the end margin.
I almost tend to agree he's on borrowed time. Looks slow for the game, not overly skilled.

If he's not in a tagging role, he shouldn't be in the team. He isn't much chop as a forward

You want players to take the game on they will get caught from time to time
Well, obviously.

I think he holds onto it too long in contested situations. Needs to get better at deciding when to dispose.

Oh here we go ... oh wait ... reasons ... analysis ... win prediction fair ... that was a balanced post.

Now CM ... did you vote for any players in the poll above? Do that and I might take the rest of the night off.
Take a load off old boy

The lack of fluency is painful. It’s scratch, grind, stop, dither... coming out of defence is just so hard to watch. Yes, I know they are young.
Can someone explain the game plan, please?
We somehow managed to apply enough pressure in the middle quarters but fell in a hole.
Umpires, wow, hurt us bad.
Curnow stunk it up like never before.wanted more from Murphy
Liked McKay. Loved Walsh. Always love Cripps and Newman was good.
Liked the pressure in the middle quarters.
Into next week. Hope for better.

I mean, pre-season optimism aside, if you came in expecting a win against an entrenched top 4 side, you're thinking with the heart.

Richmond have ****ed up better teams (on paper) much worse than that over the past couple of years. Their maturity and cohesion stands out.

Such a frustrating conclusion but after a few deep breaths you have to say the signs are good. I think with a few more games under the belt this team can start to achieve good things, bearing in mind there are so many new faces playing together for the first time.

Any sort of contribution from Charlie and we probably go close to winning, too. His last two games have been seriously putrid, not sure what is going on there but it's worrying (it didn't help that Phillips was getting absolutely mauled in the running battle with Nankervis. Ruck Lobbe or even Casboult next week, Phillips is not and will never be fit enough).

Newman was bloody brilliant off half back and I want the ball in his hands (much moreso than Simmo/Daisy).

Walsh was seriously superb, he is one of our best players already and will produce scary numbers in a few games this year.

Setterfield has the makings of a very good player. Incredible poise in the contest, stands tall under pressure and just moves beautifully. So inexperienced but really like what I see here.

Strongly disagree with the SPS hate. Was instrumental in our comeback and I really liked him spotting up targets behind the ball. Made a few stupid mistakes one on one that made him look bad but overall I'm liking this role for him.

Dow started really well and was good around the packs but his influence waned. His inability to chase on the spread is becoming obvious though, really needs to knuckle down in this regard.

I hated Ed Curnow forward, the play stagnated to the point of slow motion whenever he was involved. Get him back in the middle (still managed 25 touches so maybe he went through the middle more than I realised?). In fact, the three 'small' forwards in Ed, Fasolo and Gibbons were about as ineffective as it gets. We desperately need to find a solution here (there really isn't much to choose from though).

Not sure small forward is Gibbons' go. He tried hard and is solid defensively but I'm not sure he's got the pace/tricks for AFL footy. Happy to keep persisting but I do have my doubts.

Fasolo was poor but I still think he can be a good contributor.

I actually really liked McGovern's game. You can tell he is a real competitor and I think he will lift the boys at a few key moments this year.

Harry was terrific, such a beautiful mover and a really nice kick of the footy when he's going. If he hadn't been forced to chop out Phillips in the ruck so much our forward structure could have in turn held for longer.

Cuningham really good and really bad at times. Still a very inexperienced player but had a strong first half. Things tend to happen when he's around the ball.

Jones, Weitering and Plowman were good (the latter coming back well after a few really poor mistakes in the first half). Plowman smashing Dusty in the middle was incredible stuff.

Garlett, I actually didn't hate some of his work. Not giving up on him yet.

Cripps just did his usual thing, it's almost embarrassing how good he is and how hard he tries, just stands out so much compared to a lot of his teammates.

Murph was very good in patches and then I thought let himself down with a few fumbles and at times a lack of intent.

Simmo ran around racking it up as usual but I felt that a lot of the time when he was involved we ended up running ourselves into trouble and either turned it over or had the ball neutralised for a throw in.

Overall there are a lot of positives to take out of the match, I just wish we'd been ruthless in the last quarter and stormed over the top. Richmond were seriously ripe for the picking and we blew it.

Really great points here.

The small forward we are looking for is called Zac Fisher. Guy is an absolute goal sneak and would deliver 3-4 every game.

The hate on SPS comes from expectation management - people thought we were getting the next Rioli. In their first seasons people were raving about SPS and ragging Fisher - when Fisher was twice the player SPS was - and he still is. SPS is calm under pressure, rarely makes mistakes and has pin point delivery.

Cunningham found his "confidence" - from school the reports were that this was his issue. Some real clangers though - 7 all up.

Ed TWICE stared straight at a Richmond player, thought about it - then hand balled to them. WTF ?

Setterfield was amazing. Great Get.

Loved McGov as well.

Murph was great.

Some positives: showed some grit for a couple of quarters, promising showings from Setterfield, Walsh and Cuningham - the midfield bats deeper now, thankfully - but otherwise that looked and felt very much like a 2018 performance.

Much work to do, but I think most were aware of that. Those brimming with (arguably too much) optimism until just a few hours ago, don't be too disappointed - hang in there, I appreciated your efforts this pre-season! That was a long way off our best football.
