He puts in short steps.
He gets found out of position a lot.
His disposal is questionable.
He doesn’t offer run and carry.
His tackling is conditional.
He operates at cruise speed.

And I was one that bagged him last week, but he was immense last night, as were all our defenders, considering it was coming in every bloody minute!
Plow was unbelievable
Weitbot will be better then Rance
The fist is finding his early promise again
That Sydney bloke, I’m falling for him!

I liked what I heard in the press conference.
Different sounds from the last few years.
We need wins and that's our Aim. The club doesn't sound happy about almost being there anymore.

Does that mean I'll expect a win every week as a fan, no.
It means I have faith in the rebuild and this team to win the 5-7 games I thought they would this season to set up for a push at the 8 next year
I like that Bolton was clearly not a happy dude happydude.

His expectations of this group are considerably higher than mine it seems.

That’s good and he’ll know the group and the individuals much better than me but it’s a hell of an ask considering the last few years.

I don’t think I can go on the game day threads anymore this season. Too many people criticising a young team who fight it out to the end. Too many people criticising young players who have played less than 2 seasons.

Try looking for positives.

You can see the improvement in this team.
You can see the work rate of the younger guys.
Look at what Harry and Weitering are bringing to the team as bookmarks.
Look at the natural improvement of SPS and Dow.
Polson showed a lot today and his pressure was immense in the 1st and 3rd quarters.
Gov showed what he can do with his game changing third term.
Fasolo was much improved this week.

I guess the point is, stop expecting a massive improvement so quickly. A rebuild is slow and deliberate. You can see the improvement in players and the team but it takes seasons for it to stick.
This is great 👍 Good post 😊

Does anyone think Murphy would have made 250 games at any other club? Surely he is the worst 250 game player in the history of the AFL? I never liked Gibbs but least we got some currency for him. No other club would give us a packet of chips for Murphy so we are stuck watching him.

Holy shit. Get a grip.

Thanks for the banter and the contest was great today.

Ryder and Lycett are going to bash A-grade ruckman all year (see what they did to Gawn). With Kruzer back you’ll stall out a fair bit of their dominance.

If I can just say I thought the lapse in the second quarter cost you guys. Another preseason into the kids, replace the older ‘salvage the pride’ brigade with the younger ‘we can still win this’ mongrel mob and it will great to see Carlton playing finals again.

Cheers and good luck for the rest of the year!

The best post I've read on this thread so far and it came from a Port fan. Who would've thought.

I’m interested to hear from the Polson haters this week.

4 goal assists, 1 goal and a great chase down tackle.

Murphy on the other hand, 4 crucial turnovers in the last quarter when the game was in the balance.

Gave this a bit of thought - the big difference with Polson from my viewing was that I saw less of him. And what I did see was good. In previous games he's always been "there", always in the frame, but not often impacting in a positive way. Yesterday he had cameos, and generally did what he did well. That snap goal was what he's been criticised for lacking, and if he's able to do it once a game, as well as doing the pressure thing, that's enough for me for now.

Would still prefer Cunners in the side. But maybe a little more pressure on Gibbons and Fasolo when Cunners returns, instead of Polson.

IF. He can do it consistently.

Step in the right direction.

Why the **** are people bagging Garlett? He was superb today! His poise withthr ball in hand was sublime, few times there he waited an extra second for the better option, or wore some heavy body to release a team mate.

He could deadset explode this year, Andrew McLeod style! Bookmark this post I am dead set serious.

Polson was good. He had that one **** up but played well I thought. Had a crack, created a few goals and kicked one.

Phillips put in a huge shift today, anyone going up against lycett and Ryder is in for a tough day, I thought he played well couldn’t fault him at all.

Can someone seriously put down in writing why they didn’t like Garletts game today please? I’m ****** if I know what they were watching
They don't watch they whinge. When we win they will argue over it not being by enough and Plowman Garlett and Polson could all tie for the brownlow and they will still be roundly chastised.

Everybody was laughing at me when I said Murphy should be dropped last year, his disposal is awful and has been for a long time, you can go on all you like about being true blue etc, but the fact is Carlton play better without him, unless they add Kerridge, (thank god he is gone)

Garlett was ok in the contest but gave away 3 stupid free kicks and on the last goal the ball was heading outside the 50, he had the chance to punch it on but knocked it back in the path of goal costing another goal. He can't play forward because the ball is not there often enough and he can't play back because he gives stupid free kicks.

I can give fasolo another chance, he won Collingwoods goal kicking 2 years ago, the conditions didn't suit him and the ball was constantly in the back half for most of the game.

Harry Mc was huge, we missed charlie a lot, gov SPS I though Daisy also went well. Polson was plaing forward in a game where the ball was down the back, he did well. Weiters jones and plowman were supurb in defence, just wish we had DOC too.

SPS5 field kicking is incredible. Both feet. Those cheese cutters into the corridor opened the play every time.

This is something we have lacked since Heath Scotland. Sam is a visual cog in our future. Really taken the next step already this year.

Massive man crush

Just watched the replay. Couple of other points

Gibbons looked much better playing up the ground
Defence is definitely combining better
Dow & Walsh battle incredibly well for small bodies
Ed needs to be on ball. I don't understand his use at the moment.
SPS was awesome
We battled as hard as we could. Can't question effort

Decision making and poise is a killer but understandable. Turn it over way too easily. Once we mature that will make a massive difference

I think we need to clean up our defensive system as well Soap. Teams are cutting us up end to end at various times in matches this year. First quarter we were great but they also scored easily as well. Something to work on with a young team.

We should be proud of our team not bashing them. Thats for all you people that can't see the green shoots becoming fruitful vines.
The ones with predetermined minds on certain players.

Wrong. He was good.
Very smart actually. he knows to sit back and be a release point. A few others could learn that from young Garlett and be more useful.
One of our biggest problems is two or three chasing the same ball far too often.

Weitering showing all the signs of a dominant defender of the future.
Jones has cut out the madness and playing very well.
Marchbank to be introduced soon and hopefully Williamson before too long.
SPS really progressing to the next level now.
Fasolo not the answer.
We know a classy/quick/clever small forward is priority one on the shopping list.
Murphy is contracted for next season , i wish he wasn’t ...

Cripps made a few....costly ones also. In fact I dont know if I like the so far this year Cripps that doesnt get into forward 50 as much as last years version. Its like having a weapon and not loading it. Hopefully its just while the forwards sort themselves out.
Problem is if Cripps goes forward we need to rely on an undersized midfield to get it to him.

Get Kreuzer and Kennedy in there and we will then be able to afford him resting forward.

Only my opinion.

This is it.

I just don't get it.

Perfect conditions to get Ed around the congestion where he can have an impact and contribute to a potential win.

Yet Bolton is incensed that we lost the match and didn't finish strongly? Play one of your fittest and best ******* contested midfielders in the ******* midfield.

Don't get me started on this one Plow. Take away Rockliff's 25 possession first half and the game probably pans out differently. I'm just bemused as to why they are persisting with Ed in the forward line. Put him on the opposition's best mid and let him do his thing. Surely with a young midfield group this also helps them? Makes me angry.

Soap, my computer crashed earlier tonite...just catching i up now with all the posts from the game....this is by far the most level headed and concise post through a lot of bullshit that I've been reading.

Fas tried his guts out tonite for those who may be blinkered in their thinking, and will improve over time. Just go and have a look at our forward structure last year compared to now, and keep on bitching away...there is no comparison. Him and Gibbo are bringing a new dynamic in the forward line....granted he's still short of a gallop, but will improve....like a number of others.

Setters struggled tonight a little...but he's played a total of 3 games in his AFL career before tonite. Gov was brilliant in patches tonite, and will improve, as the team improves during the year with our new team structure. Him and Fas give the forward line provide the x factor that oppo defenses crap their pants.

Murph was horribly fumbly tonite, which has really only crept into his game this year. It was so frustrating...clean hands from him would have resulted in a few goals....but he's important with Simmo and Daisy in the side to provide the experience to the kids...they'll drift off into the sunset as the young list get more games under their belt.

I must admit I've never been a Plow fan, but he was really good tonite, credit where credit is due. His challenge is to keep backing it up though...had a blinder against Danger last year in between a number of stinkers.

And for those who have Garlett as their new whipping boy...go and get well and truly ******!!! He really put in tonight into a role totally foreign to him, and had some really good moments. Of course the doubters just focus in on any slip up, which ALL players had tonight. I'd rather see him upfield in Murph's position so he can use his skill and run without having the defensive pressure thrust on him.

Anyway, it was a great effort all over...and the best aspect was (unlike previous years), there's no obvious weak links in our structures, or players not up to it, just improvement all over the park. And there are players in the NB's putting pressure on from below.

Really healthy all around in my opinion.
It’s a fairly popular view that Garlett needs to play further up the ground. That’s been tried and he doesn’t find enough of the ball.

I’m quietly confident he can become an effective role player down back. Let’s just give him time to acclimatise to what for him is an unfamiliar position.

Walsh and fasolo. WTF in the same sentence?
I see what Moody is trying to say. Not exactly singling out Walsh but just using him as an example.

Could be applied to any of our listed players that need to find touch.
