Sorry but Battle was absolutely not having a good game. He took one good mark and knocked out Fyfe. Everything else he did was detrimental.

Took 9 marks and we all know forward is where he really belongs! Once the game was up for grabs late, surely a bit of initiative would be nice!

Disappointing to hold them to 11 goals at home and not get the job done. An opportunity missed. We just never seem to start well on the road. Everyone knows that the best way to silence the local ferals is to hit the scoreboard early and we nearly always fail to do so. A good effort to come back and nearly pinch it but I'm sure we'll look back on this one and rue not getting the points.

A bit of balance - Gold Coast and Freo won't play finals and Essendon were woeful against us. Still need to see us perform against serious opposition before I can assess any real improvement. There's been some good signs but get the impression the bottom could still fall out quickly if we don't take our opportunities.

One point easily overlooked is the absence of Carlilse, Robbo, Stuv and Hanners. The first three are in the best 6 at the club and Hanners at his best would be top 3. You can't replace that overnight in a developing team. Sadly they are all long term except for Stuv. And that's not including Paddy in the picture.

A couple of positives

JB - 32 and 2 is a huge game. Gresh and he add so much skill to our midfield

We have absolutely found one in Roma. Could be anything at this rate

Wilkie a big find. Kudos to whoever found him

Coming back from 5+ goals. Last year we would have rolled over and lost by 50.

Still disappointed but all is not lost.


Not surprised Parker struggled. Is always a big ask in your 1st game back in front of your home town. Especially after the journey he has taken to get here. He will be much better from now on.

He's a small fwd. That's what they do. Accounts for 10 of their goals a season.

Absolute sook on the field though. Saw him whinge to the umpires 3 times after diving and not beinf given a free.

To go 16 to 5 Centre clearances is pathetic!

There were crucial clearances in the third and we had steel, dunstan & Ross and freo cut us to pieces with speed. It happened over and over. Take one out and put a quicker mid in to mix it up.....to at least go with Walters.

Played dumb football for the most part with a lack of dare and confidence.

Goal kicking atrocious yet again.

21 shots to 16 it's fairly obvious who should have won.

Bit of karma after what Fyfe did to Carlisle last year. He thought he had the kid battle lined up. Went to go through him but battle ain't small. Fyfe had no fear and bang!

Haven't read everyone's posts but what an effort. The boys should be super proud of that.

I really rate this Dockers side. They're somewhere in or around the 8.

This time last year we were trashed for a significant portion of the game. Freos side since then has significantly improved. Yet it was our next generation of players taking it to some genuine stars of the comp like Fyfe Walters mundy Hogan etc.

Mark my words this is the best we will see Freo player against us for the next 5 years. We really started to beat up on them in and around the ball. Fyfe has lost the impact he once had. He's not running as hard. Brayshaw is going to be a gun but it's like what we had to do through post Lenny Hayes. Too much on the kids in there and it'll take them half a decade to carry the weight on their.

And that's where we are at now. The kids we took on are now doing the heavy lifting. Ross Steele Gresham driving that engine. With contributions from Dunstan. Newnes and Sinclair on the outside. Our young talls, backs and forwards are contributing.

We will grind them down later on in the season on our own deck and will not lose to them again inside half a decade.

If there's one negative from today. It's Blake acres. The guy is a pretender. He's am extremely aloof footballer. Does some insanely dumb things which you'd expect from the pure athlete types which he is not.

Savage one of our bests again. Marshall excellent.

Mix in Carlisle Roberton and stuv and we win that by 4 goals.

Bring on the next 3 weeks. That's the real test. That will show us where we are at.

Onwards and upwards

Fair post. Dunstan no worse or better than the first two rounds. Is a good pig but only a GOP.

Clark will be better for the run. Needs to clean up his disposal a bit but gives us plenty.

Right about Acres, aloof and arrogant, two slow by mind and body, was a liability today.

Newnes good again, Wilkie and DMAC were excellent.

Anybody knocking Geary doesn't understand football.

Lots to work on, but getting there.

For a game we lost by a kick there are a host of things we can improve on which is something actually really positive.

Two changes for next week. Sinclair needs to be dropped for a 9handball game, its just inexcusable, for Steven and Kent comes out for Long.

If we do wanna complain about umpires, the amount of times Freo players took the ball out play on purpose and got away with it was disgraceful. But that was hardly the real factor for losing.

You must not have watched the same game I did.. I thought he was really good. Beautiful field kick and took a couple of nice grabs. 9 marks and 17 disposals is a good game if you ask me.

Seems that way across the board honestly. Umpires just do not pay holding the ball enough and give FAR too much time for them to get rid of it. I guarantee the latter is due to the AFL's stupid fear of stoppages. The former is because they are clueless morons who want to slowly suck the toughness out of the game.

Frustrating sums that game up.

We've been super competitive, tackling hard and playing possessed all three games. It's a good base.

Clearly lacking the polish a little. Looked like the players had just met today. Slipped over a lot, and skills were deplorable at times.

Roma's an absolute beauty isn't he? To see a ruckman with that much poise and game sense...after years of Hickey, Stanley, Longer, Pierce, Holmes...

May prove to be one of the best from the 1995 crew...

The game was lost in the coaches box.
After Walters tore us apart last time we played, we let him run loose again.
We chose to use the bomb as every forward entry. Never lower the eyes. Never be creative.
There was never a small forward crumbing at the bottom of the pack when it was bombed in.
The centre combination barely changed.
We should have done more to try and get Parker, Sinclair, Acres more involved in the game because they were dying under those bombs and Dunstan and Ross were getting slaughtered. Give them a run on the ball.

The positives however,
Marshall dominated. He could be our star ruck. Play him at all times.
Billings, gresh and Steele continue to improve.
Battle and Wilkie stand up again and barely put a foot wrong.
Better entries into 50 and we win.

Those two dodgy free kicks in the first half to give Freo 2 goals and a win were the difference, we were shit though and deserved to lose.

We missed the great man today, even a half cooked Steven would have won us that game.

Our forward set up is appalling, we got enough ball inside 50 to win that game, it's mostly just kick and hope, no f**(ing system, Hamill is a fraud.

We've got enough weapons up forward to kick a winning score but we don't use them wisely, kick and hope that our forwards can beat 3 defenders,

We are a dumb football club, let's face it.
