Many years ago me and The Captain drove to Adelaide.

After stopping for a refuel at Tailem Bend, Risky took over the driving and I grabbed the opportunity to read a copy of the Saturday edition of the Adelaide Advertiser. Well what an experience that was.

I think the front page was about some South Australian having a fire hydrant in some part of South Australia named after them. Then the following 286 pages contained various stories about a South Australian person being nominated for South Australian Of The Year, a South Australian goldfish having its 2nd birthday, the top male and female South Australian TV personalities (i.e. newsreaders), the 50 best South Australian recipes for South Australian style pie floaters, a couple of South Australian lawn bowlers being selected to play in some South Australian lawn bowls tournament, etc etc

And then, when we finally checked into our Adelaide motel we flicked on the TV to watch a one hour broadcast of an Adelaide Crows training session [emoji849]

Tough one. Adelaide looked good after quarter time on the weekend. They made the suns look ordinary... something we failed to do. We'll need to be at our best and take our opportunities in front of goal. Again, composure and good field kicking will be crucial. Turn the ball over and i reckon they'll punish us.

If Billings cops a tag then its positive news all round. He is playing as a true wingman and I dont think taggers are accustomed to tagging blokes that play on the outside, they like it in close were they can hold/body block the best mids from getting the ball. It's much harder to do that on a wingman who has place of space and can use speed/movememt/space.

If Billing's does get tagged, and is having less impact than liked, we just play him in the forward half and make the tagger more accountable the other way. What that means is less heat on the likes of Gresh, Stuv and Ross in the middle to take advantage of their match ups.

As seen with all good sides over the years, you simply can't tag them all. We are starting to get good performances from 4 or 5 mids week in week out which is hard to clamp down on.

Should be a ripper game, and if we are serious about this season, then Saints by 30.

Probably need a big game from Gresh too- would like to see him in the goals a bit more.

He’s certainly a main cog in our team & has a say in the outcome. But more goals means more time forward.

This year Gresham is averaging 23 disposals & leads the club in clearances (ave 5) & contested possessions (ave 11). He’s also averaging 1 goal per game. The club is now 3rd in he league for clearances. Last year from memory we were bottom 3.

Meanwhile, Lonie is ave 1.2 goals, Parker 0.8, Long 1.3 & Kent 1, which is more than compensating for the loss of Gresham from the forward line. As mentioned, Gresham is still ave 1 goal a game playing more midfield anyway.

Bottom line, keep Gresham in the midfield because it has so far made us a stronger clearance team!

Haven’t played well against these campaigners in years.

They’ve sliced and diced us with their kicking and down-hill skied all over us for the past few years.

Now that their confidence is down, we have to get at them like rabid dogs from the first bounce.

I also want to see us get Ratts doing as much opposition analysis as possible on them, as the Hawks have owned the Crows over the past few seasons, even when they’ve been going well.

This is a huge opportunity for us to go 5-1 and I’m confident we will take it.

This match needs to be like the first time we ever played rhem

It's the one bonus about not having one or two stand out players, you have several even players who can all do the damage and take on work load.

man after reading the great content on saints.com.au i'm super pumped for this weekends game. a win would really solidify things. i think a win would show some real maturity. the ability to do what's expected.

Another player who we under rate each week and who has improved this year in a number of areas is Shane Savage. His kicking to targets rather than bombing long has improved, he is becoming more attacking in marking duells and his pressure acts have also become more aggressive.

Newnes billing and savage all a graders

First option football is so basic its genius. West coast and collingwood are the leaders at the mo. We are slowly bridging the gap.

I had serious doubts about this year. Dam i was wrong. Long way to go but the hunger is back the rest will take care of itself.

Every player is doing their bit and our balance is perfect. McKenzie can lock-down on the best general forward and Paton can find more of the ball in Geary’s absence.

Im expecting a win. Marshall should match up well with orielly. We will out hunt them. Hurt them. The crowd will have a big say. They were putrid against north. Lets hope some of that team turns up.

Agreed. He is going to cop a ton more of attention from here on but that will be true for the whole team. Other sides will now do more homework on us to nullify our game rather than simply playing their own.
The true test for the boys is about to come.

Win against the Dees was terrific, to win against the Crows is the real baromteter on how we are travelling..

It won't. It will be a long overdue win at home for the Saints.

The barometer comes against Collingwood in 3 weeks and maybe to a lesser extent the premiers at Marvel the week before.

The crows will not be a walkover like the dees were, but we'll be fine.
