Not so sure about that

Age wise it's hard to see but I think sometimes you have to somewhat ignore age. He's playing good football, he's not cutting corners out there and he's not getting injuries. The only reason I would be getting rid of Simpson is if it costs us a good younger player. Personally I would like to see him go around again, we need some older players on the list who will make the younger ones earn it. I don't like young players getting games because they are young, rated highly and have shown a bit, I want to see them earn it and I want them to feel they have had to work and play hard to get their spot in the team.

It's a tough one and I think it will come down to how he is travelling, whether he wants to go again and whether it will have a negative impact on our future (salary cap etc).

I actually think he will be our 3rd best min after Cripps and Walsh. What a great midfield with Walsh, Dow and Stocker, with Cripps to lead them and be given a spell by JSOS, Fish, SPS, and Gibbons.

We might have our own awesome foursome in a couple years.

Don't forget Setterfield. He could be the best of the lot. I also think Cuningham will play midfield as well as will O'Brien and wait until we see a fit Kennedy.

Simpson, Thomas, Kreuzer, Murphy. (Levi, Jones, Ed). These guys will all be on the way out in the next 3-4 years. We can't afford to replace more than two at a time if we want to be competing for flags in this period - the club needs to be strategic and ruthless in how they handle the transition. It's no slight on Simpson if he's tapped on the shoulder, it's just how elite football clubs operate.

He's still playing well, but he's slowing down a bit.
Made some uncharacteristic mistakes (end of the Melbourne game, that kick to Ed in the 4th against GC), he has missed games through injury, and it's been noted on here that he's finding it harder to get up for games.

I'm not trying to get rid of him, he's a champion of the Club, but I'm not sure he's best 22 this time next year.

I wouldn't mind either one if we can't get Papley, but didn't Cameron just move up to Queensland?

For the sake of clarity for those that didn't listen to the pod, Teague was talking on stage about how sometimes players don't even realise how good they are because they are so overwhelmed with structure/strategy. They are more concerned about where they are positioned as opposed to focussing on their footy instincts.

He used Charlie Cameron as an example at this time in Adelaide.

"Charlie had no idea how good he could be"

There was a throwaway line about him trying to get him to Carlton but I feel like it was said in jest/tongue in cheek.

Regardless, I'd think there would be some sort of conversation between the two if Teague were to get the nod. Whether anything eventuates from that remains to be seen. It would be unlikely to see Cameron leave the Lions for us in 2020.

Episode is here btw - anchor.fm/blueabroad/episodes/Talking-Carlton-with-Mark-and-Alex-e4miaj

I think we have Simpson Thomas Ed & Murphy covered over the next 1-3 years from what is coming through plus we will add some more. Jones could easily be covered by Goddard McGovern and/or Macreadie and maybe BSOS.

Kruezer is the one that we need quality back up for asap.

Good point. Setterfields rise has been meteoric give the complete lack of match fitnessqq

I think it's been astounding especially for a guy that had played 2 AFL games, coming off an ACL and hasn't had a pre season since being drafted.

yep especIally compared to our other recent top draftees.

Dow, lob, Fisher, Sps, Charlie, McKay, cuningham etc all had minimal impact in their first years.

The only ones to have real impact were weitering and willo, but still nothing compared to Walsh.

TBF, neither of them have had much impact at all since they were drafted, neither can even get on the field. They are both averaging 6 games a year.

Not one player has been gifted games.
There was no choice but to play them all. Thats what the word rebuild brings with it.
The list was threadbare and looking like a highschool classroom/hospital ward for two years.
It's therefore tremendous to now have a different situation where young players don't have to be thrown to the wolves.

Plenty of players on our list have been gifted games for many various reasons. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

If Simmo goes around again, something has gone wrong somewhere, or list management needs to be asked some serious questions.
Simmo is a legend of the club and has earnt the right to chose when he finishes up.

If he wants to go on next year that should be his call. As long as he understands he wont be gifted games if someone else goes past him.

From Above - Teague Connection

"Was listening to Blue Abroad podcast after the presidents lunch, some interesting stuff about Teague being extremely bullish on LOB, a whisper about Teague trying to get Charlie Cameron down and Liam Baker from tigs is as good as done, sounded like the deal is done and just waiting for trade period to start to submit the papers. Terry isnt one to make up rubbish, just havent really heard anything about Baker"
Can't say I know much about baker, tend to avoid Richmond games if I can.

He seems to be best 22 though, so apart from money, why would he leave? What are his main attributes?
