I cant see how they could afford both Patton and Cogs aswell as resigning Mitchell just yesterday.

I know, but It's Hawthorn mate, somehow they just get things done.

Wowee I’m glad you are not our list manager! You don’t truly believe that is a midfield capable of competing for premiership glory?

Cunningham hasn’t shown much on ball, LOB is a wingman, Fisher weighs 70 kilos and should not be a midfielder, jack is a good soldier, gibbons probably doesn’t get a game in any other midfields and deluca come on he’s played 1 game for us.

Don't be too quick to disregard Fisher playing midfield.
Lachie Neale was around the same height and weight when he started.
We haven't seen the best of Fisher yet and he does know how to find the ball when playing as a mid.
SPS hasn't been mentioned here, but his best position is also in the midfield but yes, some of those other names are only just padding.

It's Cripps, Dow, Walsh, Fisher, Setterfield and SPS for me, post ECurnow/Murphy and a Coniglio wouldn't go wrong amongst that group.

Yeah, in retrospect it probably does come across as berating you, so apologies for that.

Truth is my response was entirely directed at the post not the poster because there are quite a number of people here that could have written that and it is a personal bugbear of mine that those arguments happen as regularly as they do.

I have found myself in that position after a post that some didn't agree with and have been subjected to that tag team approach. Not going to go into it here because I have learned when to withdraw but I can assure you it is very easy to get drawn in when multiple players want part of the action.

I have to say there are a lot of times when I bite my tongue as well.
:thumbsu:
I think the written word is a powerful thing and can move us like very little else besides music.
And its very difficult to always get the words right and convey what we truly mean.
The best thing I find is to just walk away for a few hours and it always looks different upon return.
I totally agree with Jabs premise that if we were all face to face we would soon sort out all the little differences that words by themselves seem to create; and be high fiving and hugging when Carlton kicks a goal.

Surely their cap is fairly high. Wingard, JOM, Mitchell all brought in on what you'd assume is fairly substantial coin.

There's a substantial drop-off from their top tier players.

Mitchell, O'Meara, Wingard, Scully - the quality players they're maybe paying "overs" to have lured across.
Smith, Shiels, Frawley, Gunston, Breust, Henderson - the established quality players.

They don't have many blokes there who'd be on more than $600k. And once you get past that lot there's a steep decline into ordinary role players.

Geez imagine a Coniglio running around there. Cripps, Dow, Walsh, Setters, SPS and Fisher is a very strong start. I just feel it’s a few changes short of being one of the very best. Need to hope that Stocker comes on and we sign up a Coniglio and Papley.

Coniglio would be great but I'm not fussed if it doesn't happen

Cripps Walsh Setterfield Dow Stocker Kennedy Cuningham O'Brien Fisher Jack Gibbons DeLuca will be very very good.

Personally I'd like a quality running defender, a small forward and a Ruckman
Heard we are a lock in recruiting the best running defender in the game next year.

I think it comes down people feeling comfortable enough to be able to voice an opinion (whether it be about football, society etc) without the fear of being ripped into by anybody else.

Yes, not everyone will have the same view - and I love the fact that there is debate on here, but I’m seeing time and time again the responses cross the line and get snarky and personal.

Mods can only do so much I’m afraid when it comes to policing the board. The ignore option may be people’s best weapon going forward.

You'd think so. But they have shown in the past to make the room needed to get who they want.
Roughead, Puopulo, Burgoyne,Frawley, Henderson, Shoenmakers all over 30, or on 1 year deals that expire end of 19.

Anyway, time will tell.

I'm sorry, it's attitudes like this that lead to the crapfights we often see develop.

Who are you to say another posters opinion is crap or that a rumour they post is a troll?

Too often a poster comes on here with an opinion or something he/she may have heard only to be subjected to ridicule which often develops into a tag team offence forcing said poster onto the back foot. They are often then goaded into saying something that they may regret in the cold hard light of reality.

Have you ever noticed that when one of these situations develop into sanction territory that, almost without exception, it is the original poster that is sanctioned?

Tolerance is a two way street and should always be accompanied by the acceptance that everyone here is primarily a fellow Carlton supporter. No one has to agree with what they post but why should anyone feel that it is their right to denigrate, belittle and attack them?

Posters shouldn't attack a rumourmonger, however they are allowed to discuss the merits of the rumour and are allowed to say they don't believe it.

Most good rumourmongers don't argue the point. They say what they heard and leave it to be believed or not believed.

If someone does not believe the rumour, are they doubting the messenger or the source?

Everyone can afford to not take some things so personally.

That post does not merely apply to posters of rumours. It applies even more so to people who express an opinion that is not popular and are often summarily attacked on multiple fronts.

We are on the rumour board so it's applicable here at the moment.

In other circumstances, it may depend on negative agendas. Erring on the side of support you know.
