Curnow and McGovern aren’t playing....injury and unfit / poor form, levi has worked hard, deserves his selection at the moment he has played back forward and ruck
Great point Eskie....one of the reasons Levi's game has risen to where it is, has a lot to do with Jacky Russell.

I remember at the start of the season saying that Levi was looking the fittest I've ever seen him, and his form in the magoo's reflected this. Nobody realistically expected him this year to be a regular with H, Charles and Gov in front of him....more of a 'break in case of emergency'.

But he's no doubt been the best of all of them during the course of this year due to hard work and commitment. God bless ya, big fella :thumbsu:

I never thought I’d live to see the day when people were up in arms and concerned about Casboult leaving.

.... what a time to be alive!!

All of a sudden one of our best and most important players!

If he leaves, a few concerns arise:
  • McKay will need to be the supporting ruck - hasn't played that role much and will likely not be as good at it as Casboult, at least early on. Doesn't seem to have the tank to play that role and it may negatively impact his influence as a forward. McKay is still developing his game.
  • If McKay gets injured/suspended, who plays the supporting ruck role? I don't really see any other obvious candidates. Maybe TDK but he's still young and raw for 2020.
  • Our key forward depth suddenly looks shaky...any missed games from McKay or Curnow will hurt far more than they did this year. Having at least 2 big targets up forward to kick to and hit the scoreboard/create a contest have been central to our game style and success under Teague...we really struggled in the air vs Melbourne without McKay & Curnow.

Could it be that Bolts was an impediment to losing Shiel last year? The culture he created was fantastic- big tick, but perhaps there was some recognition outside the club, that he just couldnt coach. That being the case surely we will be looking much more attractive under DT to players like Coniglio. If we finish off with a couple more wins, the attraction of DT may become irresistable

I'm leaning towards no, I just think Essendon were probably more impressive in other ways and maybe there were other factors like salary. Essendon probably presented some pretty impressive people and facilities at the time and were way ahead on the ladder so fair enough there when we had only won two games. Teague has the opportunity to take what he as done a whole lot further in the last month of the season and take it up to some of the premier sides. Richmond, Geelong and West Coast. Doesn't get much better than that. Massive challenge, massive opportunity. If we do well against those sides we're going to become a super super attractive club for alcomers and it would be next to impossible not to appoint Teague although it may push someone like Clarkson to chase us which would make things interesting.

“Now they’ve got a one-paced midfield ... two senior players in Eddie Betts and Bryce Gibbs with those significant contracts and they’re not fitting into their plans...I think they’ll at least have a conversation with Eddie Betts about a financial settlement...Bryce Gibbs wants to fight it out, he wants to stay in South Australia, but I think they’ll say to someone if you’ll take his contract on, we’ll move him on"

Is anyone here willing to give Levi 3 years? Because that's what a desperate team might offer.

I'm fine with 2 years whilst TDK finds his feet.
I wouldn't give him 3 years personally unless the third was significantly discounted.

It would suck to lose him, but we have really solid key position stocks and can therefore afford to prioritise other areas.

As for Casboult leaving, he made Phillips look good on the weekend. When you smash directly into your opponent they tend to get ginger after the 10th or so time you've done it; he spent all day pulverising O'Brien for Phillips to capitalise.

Right now, he's an excellent person to have on a list because he's capable of playing every KPP role in a team (back, forward, ruck) to an AFL standard; this allows for a truly astounding level of depth via coverage and flexibility. At 28 and never having been one for injury, he's still got his leap and he is as fit as he has ever been, so 2 years is hardly his limit. Any who would consider him surplus next season are point blank kidding; because of the coverage he provides, you are more likely to keep him around in case anyone is injured. He would certainly play ahead of some in the VFL, even if only as a rotating ruckman with TPK as a base with stints back and forward in the AFL or VFL as injury permits. It depends, really. We cannot keep all the players we would like to. We only possess 45 list spots plus rookies, and he's worth too much now - considering how AFL capable he has proven to be - to be given a rookie spot. 3 years is probably too long, but 2 years matching what he'd get elsewhere might not be enough.

I would hate seeing him in another jumper. At some point, though we will begin to feel the squeeze; our list is too talented not to have players expecting more money and long contracts. There will be a time when we start to lose players we do not want to, because other clubs will be willing to pay more for their services. This could very well be the beginning; if so, this is - due to our drafting's targeting of talls first - probably someone we can afford to lose over the medium term, but in the short (as in 2020) we will have issues if Kreuz goes down and we don't get in an AFL capable backup for him. Down back or up forward, we have the players.

I would, but I love the big bloke. He's a testament to what you can do if you want it enough, and the only reason he hasn't been a better player sooner is the wrong people were in his ear telling him how to improve.

And for the bulk of his Carrier he had to carry the forward line and having to deal with the best defender and being Triple teamed. He goal kicking was all nerve related as his field kicking was not of the same standard. Now obviously given more freedom in regards to not having to stick to rigid rules and the fact that we have other dangerous toys that need attention in our forward line.

Who knows what his ceiling is with the right coach.

He's definitely played with the structure forward of the ball. The forwardline now compared to under Bolton is nothing close to the same.
Our set up behind the ball is vastly improved as well. Really structured and it's going a long way toward keeping that game being played in our forward half. Really noticeable change in very short period of time.

The fact we couldn’t win when he was coach was probably the only proof needed that he couldn’t coach.

I would be really disappointed with Casboult if he decided to leave now.
We have stuck with him all these years, hope he shows a bit of loyalty.
Loyalty is a two way street and Levi has copped plenty from blues supporters and has often been a scapegoat when we have wanted to blame someone for a loss..........I think he has already shown plenty of loyalty throughout his time at Carlton and if he wants to get a better contract elsewhere who could blame him!!! OK he has limitations we all know that, but who would have kicked the goals for us in the past if not for him............I would like to see him finish his career as a bluebagger...........but?

I'd prefer to offer 2 years because I think that's fair. He's not going to be on huge dollars so I don't think there is any need to spread the cost over 3 years. He's happy at Carlton and I can't see other clubs offering him huge dollars to lure him away.

There is no doubt however that as our performances improve and the list deepens there is going to be increased interest from other clubs in our players. That's actually a good thing because it means SOS will have the currency to engineer trades and secure draft picks. You could say that this is where SOS's original list strategy comes together and the transition to a new strategy for sustained success begins.

That's also why I can't see SOS leaving at the end of this year. Until he has a strategy in place for sustained success all his work could be undone should the wrong people take control.

Not that excited about getting Martin. Think he's a fairly mediocre mid and I bet we would have to overpay. Would be handy but the idea of getting a 25 year old midfielder who has never averaged over 20 disposals in a season is really not all that exciting. Get the feeling Martin might be a plan B.

Papley should be our number one target, offer our first round pick and try and get something back in return. Say Papley and their second rounder for our first and third round pick.

Coniglio we should be serious about, if Hawthorn are a chance then we should be as well. We might have to prove that we are the real deal but we have the opportunity to do that and so far we have been doing that.

If we land Papley and Coniglio that would be huge, we should be expecting big big things next season if that were to happen. The improvement of the young players and the forecast of what they should be capable of doing next season, if our older players hang in anything can happen next year. If you bring in Papley, Coniglio and Docherty. Three elite players, one in each part of the ground with what we have coming through would be enormous.

Reckon Hill might be worth a shot, elite wing and potential half back could be really good for where we are at. Haven't quite got top talent there, just potentially.

Baker would be good, I reckon he's a fair player and would fit well into our team.

We could quite easily do what Brisbane have done and rocket into the top 4 if things go our way next season.

Ellis is a no for me.
If Martin is mediocre then why has SOS been chasing him for two seasons now............he is streets ahead of Baker talent wise and is a good size for an inside or outside mid........I think he is a bit like SPS in that he does not get big numbers but if you make him work his talent will rise to the surface. I agree that Papley is the number one need for us though, so hopefully SOS can swing the deal........of course it is trickier with him still having one year to run on his contract........go the homesick ploy SOS, even if it`s really his girlfriend who wants back to VIC.

If Cas, after all these years, finds a multiple year offer on good coin from another club, he’s earned the right to go with our blessing and thanks.

He’s been in and out of the team, copped heaps of stick on forums and in person, and after all of that has found his very best football.

I’m thrilled for him and he should absolutely do whatever is best for him and his family.

2017 me would not believe what Late July 2019 is about to say - I really hope he chooses the Blues to finish of his career. But either way his revival this year is one of the great stories in football and i wish him nothing but the best and hope he plays great footy wherever he ends up.

Spot on.. at 29, this next contract may be his last and he would be silly to take anything short of 3 years if a club offers it.

If Blues offer 2 years at 450 and another Club offered 3 at 500, I wouldn't be able to learn the new club song quick enough..

My gutfeel is with McGovern, Curnow, Marchbank to come in, Jones signing for 3 and TDK knocking down the door, the club would thank him for being a 100 game player and give him their blessing to move on.

Casoult signed his contract two years ago with a trigger clause for 3rd year.
Contracts aren’t worth the toilet paper they are written on

Cas and his wife have two young boys to support and if I we’re him I’d be trying to make as much $ as I possibly could.

If that’s with us then happy days

If not, good luck to him and wish him the very best

I don’t think it will happen but if it’s does I’d be leaning towards him staying in Vic and moving to another club as to not uproot the young-uns lives too much

We’ll find out soon enough

Thanks for sharing the rumour 👍

But I prefer the ones where we win out big and give nothing up, jus sayin

If Cas is on the move I wish him all the luck.

If Charlie, McGovern and Harry are fit.

Jones, Marchbank and Weitering are fit.

Where does Cas play? Time isn't on his side he has been very loyal to us and if an opportunity arises I can't say I wouldn't take it.

All of our players staying with us until they retire won't happen. We have to be prepared to give up a few over the course
