We can't forget that Cas will be 30 next year. A 3 year deal puts him at 33 by the end. His form could drop off very soon. Everyone knows he's a confidence player, and right now he's sky high. If it drops off again at 30 years old how good are the chances it comes back again?
Cas is a valuable player because he can play multiple positions, full back, ruck or forward. He can play all these roles very well. Bulldogs would love him. He is the one player we have that has physical presence.

We just gave Jones (only 11 months younger than Levi) a three year deal. Like Jones, Levi has turned his career around by applying himself and by playing in another position/s.

Most players, (particularly key forwards, I think) play on confidence and have form fluctuations and probably so would Levi, but unlike most players, he can play elsewhere on the ground to recapture form and confidence. And also, unlike many others, Levi seems to be more durable and resilient to injury. I can't remember the last time he was out injured.

The thing is, can he play quality AFL football in a number of positions? And the answer is, of course, yes he can. So, I would definitely give him the three years if we had to match another club's offer. And, if we had to match another club's offer, we wouldn't be the only ones who believe in him.

Depends on the price a third rounder or later I’d be happy with. Get him as cover in case doc doesn’t play again, while we develop younger players.

Who says Gibbs wasn’t loyal to the blues, get two first rounders and two years later come back at bargain basement prices. [emoji12]
And play in a premiership!!

What would other clubs offer Levi that we can't? I'd give Levi two years in a heartbeat. Perhaps the last management is thinking they need to start getting games into TDK while Kreuzer is playing? We can't fit them all in our team. Another reason why chasing McGovern was a strange decision.

Don't you just hate auto correct?
Tell me about it. No time for spell check sneaking in a few posts between appointment and and once you realize the embarrassment. I always bugger up a word or 2 on all of my posts. But the Spelling and Grammar Police on site have been good to me so far.

Caz offers us a variety of things that we currently require ... he can play pretty much in all three parts of the ground ... can kick goals but most importantly he gives us the outlet mark ... I want him around when we’re playing finals ...
I think that if we were to play in a grand final that Levi would do something astonishing. Just not sure if it would be astonishingly good or astonishingly bad.

Cas is our Leigh Brown... now that it's all finally clicked and he's a valuable multi position KPP and Ruck he a certain starter on current form in our 22, meaning we need only bring in 1 pure ruck and he can float forward/back/ruck pending on rotations and rests to the ruck and kpp.

If it's GC after him, uprooting a young family interstate away from family might not be better than us giving him a new contract on close to the coin being offered.
It would depend entirely on the coin.

3 years at 400 versus our offer of 2 years at roughly the same? Eh, might not decide to move. 3-4 years frontloaded at 600 would blow us out of the water, and to even the most loyal of people an extra 1.6 million is difficult to ignore.

I've recently come to the realisation that I may have written off too many players too early after watching them struggle under Bolton's game plan.

I think I'd be open to seeing what Bryce Gibbs has to offer playing under a David Teague system.

This and more...

Gibbs in this system with his attributes could be the wild card. Free hit if you ask me...

couldn't agree more..........exciting/terrifying...........

Why would you play him anywhere but close to goal out of the goal square?
With kennedy, McKay, gov and Levi with some zippy high pressure smalls in there I'm just wondering how they all might fit.
We know charlie has a great tank and with his aerial advantage he'd be akin to Richo for the tiggies, and a very hard match up.
I just think for list security keeping Levi is prudent, and in form he provides great flexibilty.
Just a thought

The difference between Levi and Jones though is he is a year younger, so a season longer (in theory) and he's also playing at a near AA level. Levi has been great, but he's nowhere close to that level. Jones also has been doing this for nearly 3 years now, Levi has really only been playing at this level for half a season.

I agree most key forwards especially are heavily influenced by confidence levels, Levi is even moreso than usual.

He does have the flexibility, but he's playing at a B/B- level at 29. It's not likely to get any better than what he's at now.

Same...the ruck support role is crucial and Cas is good at it. McKay doesn't appear up to it right now.

He also gives us really good physical presence...his strength around the ground and in marking contests is really noticeable and helps us be a strong, tough team.

Also, his versatility is so useful. Curnow or McKay get injured? No worries Cas can fill the hole up forward. Jones or Weitering get injured? No worries he can go and play full back...we've seen it already this year.

Looking at the Casboult rumour objectively:

As a tall KPP, he is a commodity we have in abundance. However as a KPP/Resting Ruck, he is the most capable on our list.

Club will want TDK in his position next year; he's the direct replacement, and the intended man for this position for the next 10-12 years.

If he nets us Band 2/3 Compo, it's a goer. will assist us in getting our targets. We could feasibly be turning Casboult into Papley, or part thereof. At 29, Levi's got 3 years left in the system and it's just smart list management.

Smart clubs don't let emotion get in the way of professional management, and it's good to see that Carlton is finally on board this train now.

Might be optimistic but the way we're going under Teague and looking at how quickly Brisbane rose, i'm thinking Cas is young enough to be around for a serious top 4 challenge and deep finals run. That would be the conundrum.

Probably wouldn't offer more than 2 years though and can definitely see another team like Dogs/North/Essendon offering 3.

Has Zac Tuohy written all over it

Fair enough for Cas to be holding out for 3 years and maybe even at $500k+ given his form this year. I'd expect his manager has received some enquiries.

Can also see why SOS would only offer 2 and maybe @ around $350-450k...we do have young guns that will require pay increases very soon. We are also paying for Curnow/McKay/McGovern.

Different story entirely.

Nudged Tuohy out because we wanted to trade him so we could keep bringing in more youth.

Don't need more youth now, and the compo for Levi would be negligible in comparison with his value to our list.

If Levi goes it's not because we're engineering an offer to push him out, it's because another club is desperate enough to offer him a big/long contract to play senior football while we're offering a more modest contract for him to be first in line to cover for injuries. A team like St Kilda should absolutely be offering him a front-ended contract worth $600k plus per season for the next 3 years. Perfect complement to Marshall in the ruck and their key forward stocks are either coming off injuries or have succumbed to them. Their key defensive stocks aren't much chop either. We shouldn't be getting anywhere near that offer for a depth player.

Not just Saints...Collingwood/North/Dogs/Hawthorn/Melbourne are VIC clubs who could all use Casboult...

Basically every club could use Casboult since he can play forward/back/support ruck.

Collingwood - Need someone who can either support or replace Cox
North - Could do with another tall target to help Brown
Dogs - Are cashed up and could do with a big body to help out Naughton & Schache
Hawthorn - Are crying out for a key forward
Melbourne - Question marks on Weid & McDonald this year with form and fitness
