The 'Contracted to the Crows' bit is a little misleading in that it's a hyperlink to a Jon Ralph article from 29/08 rather than an opinion in this latest piece.
What's more interesting is the reference to Wines, and who the former teammate would be.

"Real longshot stuff as the contracted co-captain of the Power.
However, rumours persist of a potential move.
Would he have contacted a former teammate at a rival club to ask him what it’s like there?"

Ahhh Blaine Boekhurst. Had talent.

I remember him running so wide from a contest one day at Cramer st, I swear he ran into our FWD line with half a dozen Preston Market donuts in his back pocket.
could play wide......

I feel that a big clue was given when we pulled out of the race for Brandon Ellis.

His management reported today that they felt let down by Carlton pulling the rug from underneath him (implying that it was a done deal).

For us to suddenly pull out of this deal, it can only mean that we now must have a guarantee from someone else and have elected to redirect some of the projected Ellis salary to this player instead.

C4, the timing of us pulling out of Ellis was soon after Teague officially got the gig. In his interview with Harford, Teague mentioned how he had been sitting in on the weekly List Management meetings while he was interim but hadn't been contributing, but that changed when he officially got the gig and he was now giving input into who he thought fit into what he wanted to coach.

A meeting or 2 later and a reversal on Ellis was made.

Your theory could be right but since i heard that interview with Teague i've just thought that he may have pushed for not getting Ellis. He would have heavily oppo'ed him during the 2017 finals and maybe didn't see a place for him in what he wants to do.

Spot on,
I am not ITK. I am not a footy expert, more like a professional tea leaf reader.
There are too many small fwds in the rumour mix.
I suspect that there is shroud of silence over which mid we are really after.
And I also suspect Papley is a red herring.
Don't have the answers, but reckon there are some surprises in store.

Got the donuts while his boots were fixed at that shoe repair place that was there forever

Was a done deal as I reported hear. I really don’t know what has changed other than gc offered lots and Ellis manager wanted us to match.
I hope the McLuggage rumour is true but does any one have any inside info?

Lobbe? Or Wingard at Hawthorn

Good thinking. It may also coincide with our failed Coniglio attempt. He may have been the cream on top of the rabbit per se. Now those extra funds may be needed elsewhere? Who knows. But all I know is that I'm not disappointed in losing interest in Ellis. He's a whipping boy for the tiges. Runs wide of contests ala Blainey B and Kane 'sugar' Lucas.

Who do you think we are targeting?

Hope so...although it could simply be the extra involvement of Teague...ie SOS was keen and happy to do the deal, but now that Teague has more influence he felt Ellis wasn't needed and was happy with the half back flankers and wingers we already have on the list.

From what we're hearing so far from the likes of barass & TCP, we don't seem to have any 'done deals' yet to make us so confidently pull out of the race for Ellis...still no guarantees right at this moment that we land Papley or Martin.

Unless we have another player sewn up that has been kept completely under wraps but i think that's unlikely.

Yeah. I'm not saying Teague would have a myopic view, but he did win an AFL Most Courageous Player award. Maybe a 27ish yo skirter wasn't someone he could see playing very often in his squad going forward.

Also wonder if it was part of a strategic decision to persevere with SPS off half back ... Making Ellis superfluous to requirements.

Not very much about gun mids since the rabbit was taken off the menu.

Professional. Nice one. Where'd you get your accreditation?

Yep. Or a more confident assessment on Willo and Doc. Or abit of all of the above.

Or none of the above lol.

Not disappointed in the decision though, whatever the reason really.

Hello all, I was curious to compare some stats of some key Small forwards.
Some ours, some we are targeting and the top shelf. Their game averages Over their AFL career
And yes I know they can play different roles ie. on ball.

Player Marks Disp Goals Tackles
D Cunningham 3 13.56 0.56 3.6
M Gibbons 3.29 14.67 0.76 2.71
Dan Butler 1.98 11 1.18 3.56
J Martin 4.97 16.35 0.84 3.71
Sam Gray 3.98 17.90 0.86 3.46
E Betts 2.92 12.31 1.9 3.09
Tom Papley 3.6 14.24 1.46 3.39
C Cameron 2.99 12.33 1.49 3.3
M Walters 3.97 17.02 1.73 2.83

Not a huge difference in Disposals & Tackles.
Seems to me, anyone with a goal avg above 1 is very good. Mid High ones elite.
On the stats above, I think picking up Betts & Butler would be a good get.
Your thoughts??
I'm a fan of picking up 2 of Betts, Gray and Butler

Where do you think we'll finish next season?

If Cripps goes down, we're probably a bottom 4 team. That would effectively be picks 1-4 & 8 for Papley, Cameron and change. That's massive overs.

To put this in perspective of how exorbitant the price of that trade is, compare it to the Lachie Neale trade from last season:

Brisbane Out: 6, 19 & 55
Brisbane In: Neale & 30

So the trade was for pick 6 and a downgrade of second rounders. Keep in mind Neale was contracted at the time too.

Neale is one of the Brownlow favourites, a multiple best and fairest winner and a clearance beast.

Even when Shiel was traded for two first rounders, both first rounders were outside the top 10 and they still received a second rounder in return.

Papley is a small pressure forward. You should be able to find one mid-draft or with back end draft picks.

Betts kicked the same amount of goals as Papley this season, but played one less game. We can probably get him for next to nothing.
I can’t believe how many people are happy to go along with that trade, basically throwing all eggs into the Papley basket. We are a team that hasn’t finished outside the bottom 6 since 2013. Tim Kelly will get traded for a bunch of picks that we could trade pick 8 for and WC fans will complain, yet we are happy to pay possibly more than double that for Tom ****ing Papley. It’s one thing for experienced finals teams to throw future picks like this but we can’t take for granted that pick won’t be top 5.

It basically takes us out of the trade market next year. How about we take Martin, get Betts for a year or so and start targeting players who are coming out of contract end of next year.

If the Swans want the biggest trade win in the history of football, that’s fine they are within their rights. Good luck getting Daniher without our pick 8.

There are not enough likes for this. Bravo. :clapping:

Since there is live trading now, maybe we are best to lock in Martin, Betts, Butler and then see what is available at pick 8 on draft night. If there is a gun junior small forward available we call Swans and say we can grab the kid or see what is the best deal they will take for Papley. If they are too greedy, we use pick 8 on the draftee who gets mentoring from Eddie in year one.

Love Eddie, but let's move on from him as a player

If we still had pick 8, I am taking Rivers
