Or simply something better came up.

I rekon it's got less to do with Teague and more to do with Wines.
Maybe, if you were coach you know what you need with the way you are going to play...
Get the feeling we're not going to have enough picks to possibly get everyone over the line...

What's with people throwing Marchy into trade discussions?

1. He's contracted

2. He's going to be an All-Australian

Is he actually contracted through next year? I thought I read an article on the SEN website a while back saying that he was out of contract at the end of this year?

Yes, he is out of contract.. that's interesting. Haven't heard peep about him re-signing

Just did a bit of research. This AFL article seems to suggest that he IS contracted through 2020 but I'm still not sure:

Either way, we need to find out. Dad's been worried that we haven't heard anything about Marchy re-signing for weeks so I need to put his mind at ease.

Correct - both he and Kennedy are contracted until 2020. Riley Beveridge who covers Carlton also mentioned recently on his podcast that Marchy was contracted for next year.

Also here's a quote from Andrew Russell - 'Marchy’s’ injury is healing as expected. He’s still in the neck brace, which is a little uncomfortable for him: we think he’ll be back training in the early stages of pre-season'

He's also said the same about Lang, who is uncontracted

I heard a rumour that Carlton are confident they can snare Joe Blow and think they can come up with a trade that will satisfy Apricot.

Apricot get - 2019 1st (Adelaide pick), 2020 1st, 2019 3rd, Levi Casboult, Caleb Marchbank, Lachie Plowman, Tom De Koning, Nic Newman.

Carlton get - Joe Blow, 2019 2nd (for Sam De Koning), 2019 4th, 2019 5th, 2020 4th, 2020 5th. What do you guys think?

Are you a certified ITK? Can we trust you?

Our midfield just doesn’t cut the mustard and that’s where the game is won and lost.
The Geelong game really drove that home.
Too much is on Cripps with Murphy and Curnow closer to finished .
We’ve got to get bigger stronger and better.
Dow Walsh and Stocker will hopefully in time become elite but that is a few seasons away yet.
I see Setterfield O’Brien and Fisher mainly on the outside with SPS our quality exit player from defence.
If we could land Wines it would be huge in directly assisting Cripps and by effect, the younger trio coming through.
Papley would be great but at the price we can do better all round by nailing our midfield down with Wines and using a combo of Butler/Betts forward and even drafting another SF if need be with our remaining 3rd rounder this year.

Pick 8 and future 1st for Wines and 2nd rounder.
That 2nd rounder and Casboult for Martin.
1 of our 3rd rounders for Butler.
4th rounder for Cameron.
5th rounder for Betts.

you've really put your balls on the line with this one

Getting it right in the draft is like taking a punt at he races. you can back a favorite every race and still leave with empty pockets. Not every draft pick is Sam Walsh.

With Papley and other established players its like you know there is a fix on and you can bet on a sure thing. I have a migraine going through the last 30 pages and reading necessary opinion on what he is worth in regards to draft picks. Going back to the races comparison this years draft is not a Group A field, so at pick 8 anything can happen.

We are out of the ground zero rebuild stage we need to pay what we need to get the last pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together. If you want to eat at the flower drum don't expect to pay the local noodle shop prices.

I feel that a big clue was given when we pulled out of the race for Brandon Ellis.

His management reported today that they felt let down by Carlton pulling the rug from underneath him (implying that it was a done deal).

For us to suddenly pull out of this deal, it can only mean that we now must have a guarantee from someone else and have elected to redirect some of the projected Ellis salary to this player instead.

In talking with my recruitment friend can confirm Ellis does feel he was strung along by SOS and deal now off.

Well after only reading about the last 200 odd pages I think our targets are: Papley, Martin, Gray, Wines, Crouch brothers, Talia, Brayshaw, Oliver, Ronke, Hunt, Betts, Cameron, Ellis, Bolton, Butler, Townsend, Menegola, Parfett, Constable, Narkle, Selwood, Cutler, And a few others that have slipped my mind atm

Plus... D. Vader, I. Jones and C. Kent are all looking strong.

On the bolded parts:

In what world are we paying double for Papley what Tim Kelly would cost? Not sure how you came to that conclusion at all.

Also it does not take us out of the trade market next year...we'll have our 2021 1st rounder plus 2 x 2020 2nd rounders to trade for a gun.
Are you the poster formerly known as farktherest?
Look, I like Papley and I agree with many that he is the type of player we should chase but that proposed deal is extortion, you don’t sell the farm for a small forward. It’s a crazy price, we must value that future first as a top 5 pick.

I feel a few people have succumbed to the old sales tactic. Staunchly offer a $250K asset to a buyer for $1 million and then when you later throw in a bbq it starts to sound more reasonable.

I was keen on him, but at the price it appears the Swans will be asking we need to look elsewhere. I would prefer we focus on Martin and Gray and see what else is around. We need to look to bring quality players but we shouldn’t be desperate like accepting a deal like that.

And yes, that proposed deal will be significantly higher than what Geelong end up getting off WC for All Australian, goal kicking midfielder Kelly.

Still can't believe people wanting to give up 2 x 1sts for Papley + a 2nd

Some context

Cameron for Pick 12
Neale, Pick 30 for Pick 6, 19, 55
T Mitchell for pick 14
O'Meara for Pick 10 + 2nd rounder

Some Bargains

McCarthy for shuffling of 3rd/4th rounders
Brad Hill for pick 23 (Leaving Hawks)
Caddy for pick 24
Seedsman for Pick 32
Lyons = Free

Draft

Liam Ryan for Pick 26
Willie Rioli for Pick 52
Tim Kelly for Pick 24

Lastly, Tom Papley for Pick 14 Rookie Draft
Don't care where Papaly was drafted. We can't afford to take a punt on a kid. We are in a club in a hurry. However, yes he is being well overvalued

Sorry but your analysis is flawed. If we go by AFL draft points the rumor says the Swans want about 1300 points for Papley and Cameron (basically we are downgrading our first round picks to their second round picks). So they are in effect asking for Pick 11 for Papley plus Cameron. That is basically the same as Charlie Cameron who was Pick 12 which seems fair based on what most people on here have said they would pay for a close to All Australian player who hasn’t hit his peak yet.

So it’s it’s a fair price for Papley the more important question is can we do better with another club for say Wines or Brayshaw or even McCluggage and get a cheaper small forward instead? The answer may well be yes.

And the other question is can SOS get a better trade from the Swans (than what the rumor is saying they’re asking for) and the answer is again yes. Plus we don’t want to overpay since shah we give the Swans will be passed on to the Bombers.

I thought he was across the line as well, so who is the player they have in mind instead of him........Zac Jones perhaps?......it is a bit dodgy the way it was handled because SOS now has to convince someone else to come to us instead of Ellis........
