Not sure how you define "all guns", Martin may also choose Carlton because they finished way down the ladder and therefore had better picks to trade, thus ensuring a smooth, quick agreement between the clubs and his quick exit to a new life.

I prefer the easy paddock theory. We don't want those types.

Lol where they finish is irrelevant to Martin if he wants to go to a team.

You can try and sugar coat it all you want but Martin choose Carlton over us and although I will admit I’m not bothered by that coz I was never keen on overpaying for him, it continues to show how hard it is for us to attract players.

Few saint posters thinking st Kilda are asking for pick 12 for Bruce

They’re dreaming. They’ll need to get a second rounder some how. Or accept our second. As soon as you’re club is seen as “pushing” someone out, you lose some power.

...just let me eat my sour grapes in peace and quiet, thank you. :)

I’ve watched Tex Walker live 3 times this year and although I’m not advocating we go after him he gets absolutely zero help from his teammates.

He constantly leads and then turns back and then leads until he can’t go anymore and they hardly ever reward his effort. He works his ass off for very little return in that team.

The biggest negative is he has the turning circle of the titanic BUT there is no way he would have allowed the Giants to bitch us like they did on the weekend.

IF Naughton is to miss alot of next year he wouldn’t be a bad short term option if everyone else turns us down

Im not sure that Melbourne are a good example in this case.

As s**t as they have been since forever. I have no doubt they were sold on the illusory allure and pull of joining a foundation club, a club that still has a latent and very influential supporter base in this town with all that brings to the table. A club that at the time of their recruitment looked to finally be on an upswing of form good enough to get them to last years preliminary final and that they get to play at the home of the game. If none of those suit then choose your own variable that lands anywhere from the venal to the banal.
Quite possibly, but what you're saying is they were on an upswing an generated a buzz around it for recruitment purposes? Much like us with a projected upswing, only without the attached recruitment buzz. That's the missing piece that some of us are talking about. The youngest list to win a flag in ages, regenerated into an even younger finals team in 2019. Based on performances on field and even our salary cap position, we should be somewhat of a destination club to at least a few reasonable players.. Anyway I'll reserve judgement until trade period is over, but I do see why people are raising concerns about it.

Worst case for LCL is 3-4 months. Should be back in time for JLT.

So the chap that had mail about Ross Lyon weeks ago reckons we’ve made initial inquiries about Lewis Taylor and someone mid-range at Geelong. That’s all he had, so don’t know if Cats player is tall/small/mid/fwd/defender. Hardly worth posting really, so feel free to ignore... ☹️

Not at all. This is interesting.

What’s the knock on Taylor these days? Doesn’t tackle enough?

Big engine and good speed.

I don’t mind Taylor, I think he’s better than people think.

Don't shoot the messenger, but there was a mention I think on SEN a week or so back that we'd shown some level of interest in Zac Smith, so could be him?

Tbh, can’t say I’ve watched him closely at all in recent times. Was a regular in their team until this year, but I wouldn’t be sure if all/most games missed in 2019 were on form, or some due to injury. Any avid Lions followers on here?

How are people actually having a go that Martin didn’t choose us? It’s not a big name player, he’s a mediocre small forward who hasn’t shown anything, we aren’t the only club players are saying no to, it is a constant throughout every club, the all mighty hawthorn haven’t landed there “big fish” yet again, do you think they will go into panics, I highly doubt it.

There are a couple of decent posts on the main trade board about him.

Agree 100% MD, wouldn’t be the worst short term option for a few years and still would have enough footy left.

To the eye, post knee, I don’t think he’s been quite the presence he was and compensated with stripping more weight off to cover the ground. I reckon in our set-up he could consistently play a bit deeper.

Still kicked 40 odd goals this year.

Yeah my informer didn’t know, had second-hand knowledge of Dogs/Cats discussing a Cats player, as vague as it gets really. And I’m guessing at this time of year every club is discussing several players with every other club, so could be something or nothing.
I’m a bit meh about Taylor as well - cost in trade and coin would be interesting if it gets that far.

I don’t buy that logic. Getting outclassed and outfought in a final is not great ‘experience’ for anyone. Bevo picked the team he thought could get the job done, not the team he thought could learn the most from a mauling. Anyway, not the thread for this discussion.

Point is that Bevo surely had a hand in Trengove coming to the club and he has the same strengths and weaknesses he’s always had. It’s odd that he’d shun him in a situation where he seemed a good fit for the game.

I don't think anyone can say they know what Bevo is thinking. I'm merely saying that Bevo knows what Trengove brings but wanted to try out Young for the experience. Dream all you want, but we weren't winning it from 7th this year with 12 wins.

As you said - a topic for another thread
