Considering the amount of dead wood on our list and the (same old) injuries, we did well to make the Prelim.
How does our list change?
Who’s the trade bait?
Fact is, as much as we love our boys, with every new year comes change.
Goldy, Murray and Wells are gone. Others that need to go?.... IMO... Appleby, Broomhead, Crocker, Reid, Dunn and Varcoe (all provide minimal/dimishing output).
Trade-bait... Cox, Scharenberg and Thomas?
Grundy? Can we trade to pick up some first rounders and a gun key forward like Fogarty?
One thing is for sure, we lost a Prelim... so we’ve lost ground. We need to roll up our sleeves and get cracking!

Out (certainties): Goldy, Wells, Murray, Dunn.

I suspect others will join: Varcoe, Reid, Broomhead (though I'd keep him), Crocker.

That's as much turnover as you get.

As far as trades go, it has to be player who are worth something. Cox stays because we have no other key forwards.

Scharenberg is the obvious one. Huge upside and we've got at least 3 of his type (Howe and Langdon and Murphy). What would we get? Maybe late 20s early 30s?

Someone in our one-paced midfield? I would have suggested Beams, but that won't happen.

But man do we need another key forward. Seriously. That's our biggest hole. I'm secretly hoping we might have a chance with Pattenson.

Do you mean Patton? Seems signed and sealed to the hawks.

Why is the fitness department being brought up - again - in this thread? Serious question.

Because we can't go a week it seems without someone getting Injured and ton of Soft Tissue ones too

The Collingwood Football club was and always will be the envy of all other clubs and their supporters...............We stand side by side.........the others dont

We have believe it or not the makings of a great side.A great side that in future will provide us with multiple flags a dynasty if you like........

Firstly forget all talk about trading Grundy...We must sign him in the off season and if Ned Guy is worth his pinch of salt.He should have Grundy,Moore, and Degoey signed in the off season without a doubt. He stuffed up with the Beams trade giving away 2 first rounders and our salary cap is very tight.

Here is i believe we need to become the Powerhouse side once again.

We need
2 strong midfielders with pace
1 strong KP Forward
1 strong crumbing forward

these types to compliment our existing side.I am not going over the peripherals about who we dump and replace. This post is designed for all you guys to have your say.

So what are you waiting for lets GO !

Remember we have to play money ball here our salary cap is tight.......

gee whiz. thanks for giving me an opportunity to have my say.

moneyball is a theory that small-market teams can buy players from larger teams that are undervalued, and sell their over-valued players to those big teams who are looking for a miracle player.... and of course, it gained popularity in the US where there is nothing like the salary cap, drafting and tradiing constraints that AFL operates under...

So we could discuss something more applicable to australian conditions...... prayer..

We already have midfielders coming up the wazoo, and enough small crumbing forwards as it is. Bolstering Key positions in our team, actually making players earn their spots in the side is what is going to make us better. But the biggest factor by far is getting a team with limited injury woes. On paper, we have the personnel to go all the way, it's just about applying consistent effort throughout the season and remaining unpredictable throughout it also, because that's how teams like Geelong and Brisbane get found out.

After the loss I'm actually still somewhat optimistic about our teams chances in the coming years. West Coast had to lose in 2015 before they got their flag in 2018 and I'd say we are further than they were at that point. The horizon is bright and our time will come again and it's just if the players, staff and coaches rise to the occasion.

I know it's not basis of your post but...

This side by side business is a laugh. Just look at the match day thread and you'll see Collingwood have some of the most spiteful, uneducated and pathetic supporters of any club.

The 'Collingwood' stereotype rings true for many of us.

Yes and I keep saying it, our recruiting needs to improve, it is good but not good enough.

Few little milestones and we're into it again..

Grand Final - Melbourne Cup - National draft - Christmas - Sydney - Hobart yacht race - New Year - finish the Xmas cake - couple of heatwaves - pre-season... and away we go again

Did I miss anything?

Of course we do but there are certain generalizations which are true. I think our fans are more loyal than many. The Hawks and Dees fans come to mind. They climb on and drop off at an extraordinary rate. There are extreme types in every club but I think the Essendon and Collingwood fans are right up there in the loyalty stakes. That doesn't mean their supporters don't rant or have silly opinions. They usually turn up. Tiger fans have been good too the past 20 years after being decidedly iffy in the 80's after things went awry. I think we had the highest average attendances again this year. I wonder how many times we've done that? If, as the tiger fans claim, they have the biggest army as proven by their membership figures this should be a source of concern.
