We're already dipping not only in the '20 draft but the '21 also - That's f’ed.

What is the AFL saying when they're not only conceding GC's 2020 fate but also their 2021? Terrible....terrible idea and signal to send.

EDIT - Just heard it's reviewable which makes it a little better but it's still patently wrong.
I wonder if they have to trade any of those picks.

WTF!

Gold Coast assistance package includes:
- Picks 1 and 2 @ '19 Draft.
- The first pick of the second round (currently pick 20) @ '19 Draft.
- Mid first-round pick (currently pick 11) @ '20 Draft.
- The first pick of the second round (currently pick 19) @ '21 Draft

That’s an absolute disgrace, I’m bloody absolutely livid with that. I’ll be even more livid if we sit on our hands and just accept it

Not to mention the players partner live's in the city he wants to live in.
Just now a Swans supporter ringing up SEN complaining Papley's reason for requestng trade doesn't stand up. He is not married, only a girlfriend (I think fiancee?) living & working in Melbourne. Not believed to be any other reason (illness etc in family) not good enough reason to let go. Has a fair complaint really?

I think finally the AFL has worked out that picks alone won’t fix GC, hence they’ve put time and money into other elements over the past few years and NOW hand them the big show bag of picks. Gives it a chance of working. Otherwise players are just heading there for a two year holiday before starting their AFL career in earnest elsewhere.

Interesting scenario now with GCS....they now have picks #1, 11 and 19 in the 2020 draft (assuming they finish 18th).

There's a chance that they will try and package up/trade pick #11 for a mature player this year like a Crouch, leaving them #1 and 19. I'll get shot down for this, but if they demand our 2020 1st round pick for Martin, could we consider our 1st round pick for Martin and GCS pick #19....basically our first pick slides from pick @8-12 down to #19. GCS then retain two 1st round picks.

It also gives us two second round picks in 2020, which we could either use one for a trade this year (or part of the Papley package)....or keep them, and bundle them up for a 1st round pick in 2020.

Just a thought...although trades are normally a ****load more complex than that.

Can understand giving GCS priority this year; but next year and the one after that is hardly sporting...GO THE MIGHTY BLUES!!!!

Go home factor

The salt on here is hilarious. Who cares about the Suns? We didn't need a concession package, the Suns obviously do. Our 17th flag is going to taste so much sweeter without a substantial assistance helping us along the way.

Nah mate, it’s completely fkd.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the assistance package is spot on, AFL had a decision to make, either fold them or give it one last crack and we know they need players. None of this half in business of the last few years

So, no increase in the salary cap or off field soft cap? It’s a disgrace

The other 16 clubs should thank Carlton for cockblocking head office from giving GC the same package in last year's super draft.

Someone has trolled Tom Browne nicely here... 2 shocking calls for the 1 player!
The idiocy of it is Browne exonerates himself with "I can only go by what I heard". Unaccountable journalism lacks accountability.

We won't have pick 8-12 next year...

Out pick 18 will slide to pick 19 8th the deal you've proposed

The package isn't gonna do much anyway.

They gain Rowell and Anderson but likely lose Luko and King by 2021.

The town is a black hole for sporting clubs.

Almost every Australia wide sporting franchise has folded on the Gold Coast. AFL got their metric wrong.
