I mean, just scroll through Gold Coast's list, it's ******* deplorable.

They need more than picks, yes, but they desperately need talent.

yep list is full of bog ordinary and potential flight risks.

you can't build a side around journeymen and young talent, particularly when your young talent wants to leave just at the point you expect them to stand up and take on a little responsibility. looking at you Lynch, Prestia, O'Meara, Day.

(excluding Jack Martin obviously - they should let him go for unders )

Only Tom Browne goes full Tom Browne.

So it's a business then and not a competition.
OK, it's both but the same 'support' would not be afforded to a Melbourne based club, should it find itself in a similar predicament.
We know this and we know why, but it's simply wrong to pick and choose who you're going to help and to what extent you're going to help them.
There's no black nor white........just grey, grey and then some more grey.

What happens if Gold Coast become successful....like real successful and then maybe too successful thanks to all the support. What then?
Just saying that this competition is being manipulated and is compromised. People don't like this.
you'd feel sick in the guts as a Fitzroy fan after the way the AFL treated that 100 year old club.

Would avoid. The impression I got when face to face was anything but impressive.

More concerned he wouldn't want to compromise his VFL coaching to meet Carlton's needs for player development.

Let’s just leave the recruiting to the list management team at the club. They’ve done a pretty good job so far. Anyways if I have to express an opinion Pick 9 for a talented 23 year old is fine by me.
I'll alert the media........

The best thing the AFL could do for the Suns re player retention is get them a decent guernsey. Honestly, what player would want to wear that crap for six months a year.
hugh greenwood............licorice all-sorts to an exploded sunny boy.............

The concessions GC have received is excessive, but I’m not really surprised. We have already hit the draft hard for kids and our focus has shifted for the next couple of years to bringing in mature talent. I don’t think it will impact us as badly as others.

All I can say is thank goodness we didn’t have massively compromised drafts when we hit the rebuild button. Imagine facing our 2015 draft if it was as compromised as next years, it would be depressing to have so many players off-limits.

We need to get our NGA system right and need to seriously put some focus there. We are one of only a few clubs without representation in the under 17’s All stars. It’s going to be extremely hard for teams to rebuild through the draft now (unless they get good NGA kids).
great points.....

Choco is an interesting one. I was under the impression he couldn't stand Carlton but there you go. Would be a great get to help our development and transition from VFL to AFL.
surely he applies for the crows gig.........just for the hoots.........

Plonking 17yo bumpkin McReadie into King's School wasn't the greatest foresight was it.
at least allan jones had left so he was safe.........

The AFL hasn't been a competition for many years now. I think of it as a stage managed series of events that is continually compromised in the pursuit of desired outcomes. ( This is distinct to saying it is corrupt or saying they are out to get us, I don't buy into that argument).

I got over being outraged by what the AFL does years ago, nothing it does surprises me these days. Having a fair and equitable competition clearly isn't it's goal.

I love the game of Australian Rules Football, I love Carlton, I have zero affection for the AFL as a league.
T-shirt :thumbsu:

I really like Choco Williams for the Northern Blues gig, I like it a lot .

His cancer scare from a couple of years ago has seemingly mellowed the chap, and it strikes me he would be a very encouraging and nurturing coaching for our kids in the VFL

Wasn’t he instrumental in telling Shiel to go to * and not us?

Which is why the AFL package does nothing to help. They need top notch administrators like Fagan. Mr Donuts as coach just doesnt seem like a step in the right direction
You mustn't have been paying attention if you think that.

The Suns culture and administration is much better than it was even 2 years ago. They've had more young players sign up than ever before. The only real issues are King and Lukosius - and both of them were touted as flight risks before the draft. You could make the case that it was poor list management draft kids with that knock, but at the same time the Suns just lost there no.1 key forward and defender, they had to take the best best key back and forward. Ironically Luko ended up playing back and King was forward, the opposite of where both were drafted.

Dew has been great with what he has to play with. Afaic the off field side of things is alright now, it's just targeting the right kids who will hang around ala what Brisbane did. Draft mates and country kids who won't miss Melbourne after 3 weeks. Rowell and Anderson are a good start just make sure the rest fit the mould, which I think they will.
