I want to brag about a draft of a different kind...

....I have my granddaughter and her 2 kids staying with us tonight and my 10yr old great grand daughter announced she was going to barrack for the Tigers.....hmm, this great grandMM thought, can't have this, no no no.

...so I went and got my flag and one of my hats and with much ott ceremony, handed them to her, told her I would be very proud if she followed her old nans team etc.....she put on the hat, waved that flag and told her mother " I'm going to follow the Lions now mum" ....bless my beautiful girl!:hearts:

As of tonight the Lions now have drafted another supporter.

(sorry to sort of derail, carry on)

Dream get for us this draft would be Lachlan Ash, likely to go around the 4-8 region of the draft, how the hell can we get him?.......... anyone?

The Saints are looking to bring in a few players so they may be open to our 16 and 21 for 6 and 57 so they can facilitate a couple of those trades. Lewy Taylor/Nick Robertson/Tom Cutler as steak knives??

Carlton and Hawthorn will need picks to cover the players that want to come to them and Carlton, like the Saints, have a big gap between their first and second picks to fill.

A couple names mentioned for us by Cal are Miles Bergman, Trent Bianco and Cooper Stevens.
Saw Stephens a couple times last season, had all the makings of an AFL quality inside mid then. Fits the bill of our typical 'injury slider'.

Bergman to me has huge upside, reminds me a bit of Isaac Heeney with his marking ability for a mid sized player. While we have Rayner/ McCarthy who play a similar role I could definitely see Bergman being a high upside pick by us.

From my limited delving into this years draft crop I think we could get a couple of really handy mids/hybrids with our current 1st 2 selections eg. Cooper Stephens, Miles Bergman, Elijah Taylor, Jeremy Sharp, Dylan Williams, Trent Rivers, Trent Bianco + the other guy I like who MAY slide to our 1st is Sam Flanders. Unless of course we can trade up and grab Lachlan Ash.

A couple of those guys + Keidean Coleman would be a good off season haul to go along with CEY and Ah Chee.

I also really like Kysaiah Pickett, harassing x factor small forward

I think we were hoping to get some mature pace of half back that will be ready in 2020 (e.g Brodie Smith), but certainly any of those with pace would be welcome additions too.

How about taking a punt with a late pick onLuke Partington? Pick 28 in 2015 draft, 3 years at WC for only 6 games, but won the Magarey at Glenelg this season. Instant midfield depth if nothing else, 23 at the start of next season.

I like the sound of bergman as well. Has a good leap, a bit of pace, can find the goal. Where is his natural game, is it in the midfield or in a sm/med fwd role?
Im still hoping will gould is still about at our early pick. He seems to float in that 14-20 range. I think he could make a first year impact like answerth if we were able to get him. Been playing against men in the sanfl and going great guns. Good size, 191cms 90kgs. Him n payne coming thru sees our defence evolve nicely for many years.

I’m a little more bullish on who might be available at our first pick than I was after the U18 Championships.
But there’s still the whole trade period to go before we can tentatively lock our draft picks in.
Yeah I think this trade period is going to see draft picks flying every which way

P.S. He lives!!! No more posting on the GC board??? 😂

Flanders ripped the NAB league apart towards the end of the season. I reckon he's a decent chance of being a top 5 pick, and I don't see him making it to us.

According to AFL Media's Cal Twomey, as well as being a weaker class compared to this year’s, the 2020 National Draft could be the most compromised since the expansion teams entered the competition.

“The Next Generation Academy is really coming to fruition; a lot of father-sons are available next year as well as the northern academy.

“In the game last week there was 48 players and 17 of them were already tied to clubs.

“There’s some quality players there as there always will be, but I’d say in terms of the last couple of years, next year does look like the weakest we’ve seen in a couple of seasons.”

Twomey said he expects to see a number of clubs offering up draft picks for next year in trades, but due to a lack of clarity around the draft, clubs would be reluctant to accept them.
