Google what went down. He wanted to stay, was willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of dollars to stay.

He really wouldn't have left if he was willing to do that. Eddie leaving was about maximising his earnings and setting himself up for the future, good luck to him for having done so.

Eddie coming back is about GC being his only other option and that didn't suit as the family wanted to come back to Victoria.

Like I've said before I will support him 100% when he becomes a Carlton player again but I will be far more excited about signing up Papley if that happens.

As an update, I’m told that our reason for turning down the offer from the Wines camp was that after discussions with Port it was clear that their asking price was too high. This price might have changed now that the Wines camp have gone public.

Gotta give you credit here Nudee, called Wines back in early Sept 🌈 :thumbsu:

I am not convinced about the first 2 points Zeg.
It's not like Malthouse had the power to give players contracts, the board at the time lowballed Eddie, he only wanted an extra 50 K a year, and we could have also signed Daisy as well.

There is Plenty of things to blame MM for at his time at the club, just don't think Eddie leaving was one of them (least to my knowledge)

Anyhow onwards and upwards from here on in 👍👍👍

I think it's more likely than not MM had influence in the deal. He had power. He had power over the board.

Either way CFC collectively ****ed it up then. He was desperate to stay.

I can't be the only one who would prefer Robbie Gray over Wines (if those rumours of him also wanting out is true?)

He is a bona fide superstar that lad, he is one player I would pony up our 2020 1st round pick (plus more) for. Would certainly start the gofundme campaign for a SOS statue outside IKON Park if it happened.

Do we have any ITK posters left who can shed some light on this wines situation?

My Hawks former board member extended family told me this a few weeks ago. May have been pre-finals or early finals.

From what I remember...

Fractured relationship between he and somebody (I believe Hinkley) and the club handled it poorly. The fracture grew to include other people at the club.

Wines sees the potential in our list and grew up a huge Carlton fan. Offered to play for us. He had cobtemplated signing with us after his last contract but ultimately re-signed.

The club identified small forward and a younger backup ruck as more important needs. Rightly in my opinion. Wines was always going to be that 'if we have enough left over after that' player.

Don’t ask me why, i still think sos has something extra up his sleeve we don’t know about yet? Just have this feeling

After today, he can start hiding things in Eddie's shorts instead....

That sounds worse than I imagined.

Great get if true with Phillips leaving.

I reckon he could take over from Kreuz in 2021 as our no.1 ruck and be a Nankervis type of ruckman.

He’d know there’s game time definitely available as Kruez can’t stay fit for a whole season and Phillips is all but gone.

And a 2 year deal instead of 1 from the hawks.

Yeah I agree. Just be thankful those dark days behind us and we have a terrific board and coach ing panel in place and hopefully a club great like Eddie will never leave the Baggers again 👍👍👍

Do you know how old he will be next year?
