Not an ideal endpoint however the risks were there.

We need to just look at what we have and where we can improve and go from there. Doc back (in a limited way), McGovern hopefully arriving fit and ready. Another year of growth. Betts in the forward line, perhaps Martin in the PSD. GC sounded like they were not being particularly reasonable for a non contracted player who has made it clear he doesn't want to be there, we have not had to give away any of our current players which probably won't be the case in future years.

Finally - The ITK posters - Unfortunately it is the nature of the beast that things continue to change very quickly. Clubs see what other clubs are getting and doing and no doubt modify their thinking as they go. I would prefer to have some bits of ITK that don't always work out then nothing at all. Please do not attack these people.

We must have put aside at least $1.2 million in the salary cap for both Martin and Papley. Surely the advice will be for Martin to go to the PSD and put a massive price on his head to price him out of the reach of Gold Coast and Melbourne.

Ultimately, you cannot overpay. Unfortunately some trading partners don’t come to the party. Our net position is better having not pursued the terms put to us.

We are all frustrated, but it’s the right move. Now, which gun are we going to get at pick 9?

This is a massive fail for this football club - absolute massive failure.
I can’t be clearer that if we do not get Martin In the pre season draft and somehow fu** that up SoS head has to roll. Pathetic.
The chance to get 2 absolute gun small forwards in the door ... young players aplenty on the list. Give all the picks in the next 2 years for both of them.

Refusing to overpay for players isn't a trade failure, its a success.

The Suns wouldn't accept a reasonable trade for Martin so now they will lose him for nothing in the draft.

Stop complaining and acting like the world is burning down, we still get Martin, unfortunately we don't get Papley, but we now have pick 9 in the draft!

Love the spin by some people here. This is a fail for SOS, no other way to see it.
He had players we need (small forwards) nominating us, and he wasn't able to land them.
Future players will be apprehensive nominating CFC given SOS' inability to seal a deal.
Add to that missing out on Cogs.
A massive fail. We'd want to get Martin in PSD that is all I can say.
