Bluemour Melting Pot XXI - Like seriously, the polar ice caps have got nothing on us

Guys we have been the victims of two absolutely delusional list managers here.

Cameron wanting Future 2nd + 9 for Martin + 15.
Dodoro wanting MORE than 9 + 5 for Daniher.

This screwed up both our deals.

Real question is how we ended up with tunnel vision for 2 deals which were both ultimately untenable.

That Martin deal is overs but hardly horrible. Keeps us in the first round. A better understanding of our ND/PSD will help this.

We shouldn’t be getting public nominations if we are relying on Dodoro, and should’ve offered overs for a player we identified and desperately need.

Not disappointed by the result ... however I was kinda liking the positivity from the media, we're going to get drilled by this!!

Can picture it now - if we lose round 1 next year - "Carlton would of won with papley"

Nah mate - 1/2 players don't make a team - believe in our current list - all is fine!!!

Not hinge your entire trading strategy on other trades that are out of your control?

What if they were the only players we were interested in? Do you have to force yourself to have interest in players and trade away draft picks to be seen to be doing something?

We got an upgrade on our second ruck and we got a beloved son back to kick goals for a year. We have held on to two first round draft picks and our second rounder next year to boot. What we really wanted was a gun mid and we missed on Cogs. We are fully stocked for another tilt at elite talent next year.

OK naive one, SOS himself said Papley deal was unlikely to be done without the Daniher trade going through. Knowing this, he's had WEEKS to come up with other targets, instead of Death riding Dodoro to the last minute. GC said they would have traded Martin & 15 for Pick 9. Which is the equivalent of a mid 3rd rounder in points downgrade. With maybe err 2 minutes to go, you'd think he'd cut the loss of a player with 3 years to go on the contract, and do the martin deal at least. Or have a plan C. But no. we bank everything on a 50/50 deal with a player with 3 years of contract left.

Incorrect on Jack Martin, GCS list manager also stated on trade radio they wanted our future 2nd in the Martin deal.

interesting. Which club loses? * and swans both have important players on their list that will want out at the first opportunity, gc suns (and btw I’ve never been there. Does it have more than one sun?) play hardball on an uncontracted player.?

Spare me!
We’ve got millions left over In our cap, we needed to spend the money
Over the next year or two -we’ve got a need for small forwards and 2 very very good players wanted to come to our club. You pay overs! Whatever it is you get the deals done. We don’t need to go to the draft at all in the next 2 years.
Not good enough and if it was anyone else but SOS he’d be out the door already.

There better be a very good explanation and Martin better find his way to us in the pre season draft... or let’s just offer another 2 year extension to Cam Polson and De Luca! Spare me all of you!!!!

FFS dude. No one owes you an explanation for anything. Get a grip.

I get it’s cool to laugh at the sakc SOS melters, but I think the apologists going with the it’s all fine, nothing is wrong, what could we do line are off base too. If Papley or Martin were untenable, I would think that could have been determined earlier in the 108 day trade period so alternatives could have been looked at. ITKs said we were still confident late in the piece which really means we weren’t reading it right IMHO.

Huge missed opportunity with two capable guys nominated us and landing neither. Sure there’s reasons... but there it is. No Papley, no Martin, no mystery guy. It’s not great. Silver lining is full draft hand for next year so can go hard again.

People baulked at paying Cogs a million plus, but are fine with overpaying for Martin in the PSD, which we don't even know will happen, delusional.

You do realise what front loaded contract means?

Yeah ******* AFL.

GC had so many picks they probably felt they could 'afford' to make a stand on Martin and take the risk of losing him for nothing. They got so many free picks anyway.

Martin & 15 for 9 & our 2020 2nd rounder is a ******* outrageous request.

This is exactly what i took out from the GC lists guys presser "had to affect their draft hand".
and im still 10 pages behind but am still seeing posts regarding the slide back to 15 being the deal. dont care what Cal Twomey or Ralphy or whoever tweets it, from the list manager, the deal they suggested included our 2020 2nd.

We came off a 2 win Season and you expect Shiel to choose us?

Cogs was unlucky, not much more we could have done.

Sydney were never going to trade Papley unless they could use the pick to get Daniher, why would they?

Of course I expected it, the club publicly came out and said they were pursuing both Shiel and Cogs, SOS was involved in multiple face to face meetings, large offers of money were made and efforts went into aquiring them.

They set a goal, and they missed on both occasions, that is a fail plain and simple.

Not all doom and gloom
Bennell is looking at two melbourne clubs next week.
Carlton is on of them
.
Maybe Eddie can keep him under control.
Like he was boss with three Amigos.
Still may get Martin.
SOS has always busted his guts for Blues.
Never know whats around the corner, might work out for the better.
I know the trade team had a red hot go. Thats all you can ask.

That better not be true. Why would we actively bring in a player with a known drug problem?
