There is no front loading contracts any more
Value is based on total contract
You can’t set $1 million first year then 100k for 3 years
Afl just say match 1.3
Psd won’t be an option
Afl must have told GC harden up when they got the handouts
Nd for me sry in or nothing
I don’t want to overpay but I don’t like wooing a player then not getting it done

1 year, $1M
It's not front loading, because it's a 1 year deal

Sydney look like ditks
No , we are oferring him a 1 year contract for 1.5 million, that is it!!! ONE year!!

Unfortunately for us we put all our eggs in 2 baskets.

One basket was tied up in another basket and was always, it seems, conditional on that other deal.

The second basket was just being ridiculously, stupidly overvalued by it's current owner.

The only serious question I have is - should we have better seen these things coming and wisely decided to shop elsewhere?
Going by majority of the ITK's posts up until b70's "Sydney playing hardball", we were pretty confident of getting Martin and Papley. Were the trades agreed to in principle and then backflipped? Surely that's the only reason for the confidence?

Find the next Gryan Meiers.

Maybe. We found Eddie in the PSD, Garlett as a rookie. Papley was a rookie.

We have all sorts of possibilities at our disposal with most of our draft currency still in hand over the next 2 years.

Wow, shocking trade period from Carlton.

We have no chance of doing a Brisbane next year. We should have at least offered Pick 9 for Wines. Look what Neale has done for Brisbane. Cripps must be spewing right now that we are just bringing in another kid with Pick 9.
Wines wasn't available

Dodoro screwed Carlton by refusing to seriously negotiate with Sydney and helping Papley get to us.

He also screwed his club out of multiple first round/ top 10 picks.

He also publically, along with his club gave the most unbelievably antagonistic response to a player request essentially not only saying no from the start but creating a potentially toxic working enviroment for said individual for the next 12 months.

This ******* guy, I swear....
Actually it's very clever of him. Daniher will leave next year under free agency and Essendon will get pick 2 comp.

Smart

He's a clown who somehow still has a job despite a disgusting track record.

We didn't to downgrade our first round pick and a future second round pick for him. Way too much for an uncontracted player
Yes the future 2nd addition makes it undoable. I just hope Martin is prepared for the PSD and I hope GC won't re-draft him.

Sell it whichever way you choose but for two players to ask to nominate Carlton and not get there, doesn't make for a good look.
If you think it does, tell me how.

It's not about melts but reality. We did not pull off the trades we told prospective players we would do so.

Papley hurts because he would have filled a void. We are not the only club to have a void or 2

In the end it seems like no offer we made would have made a difference to Sydney.

Martin is a d**k move by GC. Like you have pointed out they can pump their chest out and posture thanks the the concessions given by the AFL.

Ah Chee went for peanuts compared to what they wanted for Martin

You have also displayed your dissatisfaction with the possibility of losing 2 firsts and a second for Papley and Martin.....

I am completely melting.
Sos failed. Not specifically because he failed to land Papley and Martin. He failed because it didn't improve our list, and that is his job.
Once he knew Papley and Martin weren't looking likely, he should have had plan b and plan c in his back pocket. No doubt the negotiations with Sydney and GC were difficult, if not impossible. But it doesn't excuse the fact that he failed to improve our list, and I cannot believe there weren't other players available that would have done that. This is a win or lose business - not a "i did my best" business. He lost. Big black mark against his name IMO.

Wrong. He now has these licks in the draft to improve our list.

Throwing away picks and over paying for anything is how you lose in the long run.

Great play by SOS.

I’ve said it all yeah Martin not a first round pick.

It’s almost best case for us cause we get him free now.

It was obviously agreed upon as Sydney offered pick 9 in a trade for daniher. Whatever the deal was it involved pick 9 and I'd say some pick swaps

I was always on the side that 5 & 9 was crazy for an injured player, but * wanted even more than that!

You think he thought he f’ed up?
(I haven't seen the footage yet)

He was clearly not the confident SOS we know.
We didn't do all our work to fail on not just on one but on two fronts - Players nominating but we couldn't get it done. This isn't a good thing.

The Saints knocked over 5 from 5. We didn't knock over 1 from 2 or maybe 3. Can't sell this as being a good thing. It's unfortunate and we'll be reminded of it for weeks to come thanks to dagger-wielding media.

Love the end outcome. Always thought pick 9 was way too high for a small forward.

Martin wasn’t worth what GC wanted either.

SOS has done bloody well not to buckle late on.

This all day long. People got too far ahead of themselves at the prospect of having a decent small forward, they stopped thinking about the price. They felt that SOS had to make others bend to his will.
