I was initially disappointed, but thinking through it, I’m still really happy with where things sit for us. If we can get Martin for free, we can’t complain about that. People asking why we didn’t do 9 for Martin and 15, but why do that when we can now get him for free. I generally think clubs should trade fairly with each other, and I believe the initial trade offered up by SOS would have been fair. GC trying to play hardball - well screw them, let’s just get him for free.

Not getting Papley is disappointing, but keeping 9 is a good result! 9 for Papley is overs (which I understand you pay when you go for contract players). Looking forward to seeing what SOS does with this pick.

2020 is going to be a great year! All aboard the Teague train.

Regardless of the fact that SOS did not overpay for his two targets, there should absolutely be a review over how for the second year running we have missed out on all of our "gun" targets. Shiel, Cogs and now Papley. Good clubs get their men.

I still think you guys are an excellent chance to select Jack Martin in the national draft at pick 9 (unless you already had a gun kid earmarked for selection)

The only drama I could see might be if Melbourne elected to nab him with pick 8


And for what it's worth from an outsider, SOS has probably done you a favor because for mine, Papley was never worth pick 9

So why would we select Jack Martin with 9 in the national draft, if you say Papley wasn’t worth pick 9? Papley > Martin every day of the week

Put 1 million for a year in front of Martin for PSD easy done. GC Won’t match coz of they do they get a play for 1 million for a year that will be asking to leave again anyway and I’m sure they can’t afford it. Melb couldn’t afford it either.

In Eddie's 'he's shot' season for Adelaide, he kicked the same amount of goals as Papley in his best season for Sydney. Food for thought.

Swans didn't even table 5 & 9. That's crazy. 9 and a future 1st when they would have Daniher and most certainly move up the ladder. Just Idiocracy. I was blaming Dodoro but now I blame Sydney. They way I see it we have our small forward in Betts even if only for a year. We got for Papley again next year. My suspicion is we trade pick 9 for a future 1st maybe and then can go for Papley next year plus use our other 1st for Wines (which may also involve our 2021 first)

Martin would 100% be exploring his options as an uncontracted player if he was looking at getting 250k for 3 years after collecting a cool 1.2mill in his first year
