Should be trading pick 9 into next years and have double the currency to go again. Pretend this year didn’t happen. Free agent list next year is awesome

If the free agent list is awesome, then why the need to bank two 1st round picks? If we use 9, we can still trade future picks next year.

First things first, I’m sure Liddle will review what happened. So, we’ll learn whatever lessons are there to be learned.

Otherwise, I’m comfortable enough with it all. The GC demands for Martin were ludicrous, and I’d have been livid if we’d paid. Papley is unfortunate, but why would Sydney let him go if they didn’t have to? Other players have nominated one year, and then left the next. So let’s just keep ourselves at the front of the queue.

The more galling thing is that this has allowed the HUN to reestablish their Carlton is in turmoil narrative. This can infect a club. Teague will have to think carefully about how to manage this. I hope he overcomes it.

Finally, if the GC were strong armed by the AFL in to keeping Martin, then you’d have to think our chances of getting him in the PSD would be nil. Makey uppy

If Zak Jones was only worth pick 32 Martin should've been done for the same or less.

Craig Cameron epitomises the failure that is the gold coast. They'll lose him for nothing now.
Yeah seems weird but GC maybe making a stand and hopeful he may re-sign?

They don't want a 2nd and 3rd rnd draft pick and also don't want players just requesting trades and leaving? Only thing I can think why they were so strong on their stance.

Well Silvagni thinks it is.

Not sure why you insist on being so condescending.

No, Silvagni stated the 2 options available.

Another poster said Martin won't go into the national draft.

You questioned that. Then I responded. Then here we are.

As the other poster originally said, that you originally quoted, he won't go into the national draft.

Thank you everyone for the input over the last week or so and especially for the information from the posters that have some real intel as to what’s in play at any given time.
There is obvious disappointment here and I feel this as well but until a contract is signed there are no definite.
Papley has a contract and so has Daniher and respective clubs were always going to shape this opportunity.
Hopefully we are in play to still land Martin.
I once sat in a boardroom waiting for a contract that had been agreed on to be signed. Two hours later was informed by a junior representative of the company that the CA had finished for the day and had gone home.
We move on. It sucks but can also be a learning experience.
The AFL appear to have interfered with the Martin deal but maybe there is more to it.
Stand strong on Martin and show the AFL community you’re not accepting the cherry picking of your talent. Here’s some extra picks and we’ll make sure he gets to Carlton.
Maybe wishful thinking, but seriously wouldn’t surprise me right now.
Love you all and bring on September 2020!

People talking about Dan Butler. He is not the difference in us moving up the ladder or not. B grade plodder.

No one claims he is he’s just a better small forward than anyone on our list except Eddie. Role players are needed.

Incorrect.

Couldn’t find a mid with plan C or D? Assuming we aren’t that comfortable with a second year player being our second mid and Ed/Murph coming after that in the pecking order.

Hopefully we move the pick 9 into picks next year and have twice as many assets to do the deals we should have done this year...
