In principle, Swans must have accepted if it was on the table for Daniher. We have made an assessment (after considering other options) that keeping #9 was preferred to anything else. I doubt that our list management sat around for the trade period waiting for a phone call from the Swans (or the Suns).

As for other targets. Who else wanted to come to Carlton?

I dont understand what you are saying here Robbbo.

What's this "hopefully" rubbish?

We're relying on hopefully now?

To be honest, I'm more comfortable with 'hopefully' than the usual 'lock it in, 100% done deal' types of statements.

Most of their list - it's pretty widely reported that they're "overpaying" just about all their players in an effort to keep them at the club.
Exhibit A - B Ellis!

Geeeeeeezzzzzzzz, that doesn’t mean 9 was offered on its own, does it?
Imo our offer for Papley was fair, but not overs, if we wanted him, I think we should have made a better offer earlier, to try force the Swans hand.
Instead SOS allowed his time to be wasted by the Bombers and thus missed out on all others that were available.
Do you know what the offer was? You think it was fair but not overs..........mmmm......... could have been either.
The point is Sydney went to Dodo and said here is 5 and 9, can we have Daniher?
Dodo replied......'but you don't have 9, carlton does', to which Syd say.....'oops ya got me there!!!!!!! No wonder you get paid the big bucks Dodo!!!'

In fairness, I haven’t read anywhere that we offered 9 on its own for Paps. Everything was with a second coming back. It’s entirely possible that SOS out a price and didn’t go above it.

I would be disappointed if we didn’t offer 9 on its own.
In the end, it didn't matter, which we weren't privy to. Much like 90% of the information out there, despite the best intentions of our valued ITK posters. Swans were never going to deal Papley without Daniher coming in. Harley made that clear first hand on GueSEN.

This line cracks me up, wasn’t available for trade, yet SOS spends 10 days trying to do the trade.

Being available if................ is different to being, not available.

The fact people argue against that line is hilarious - Papley wasn't available for trade unless the daniher trade went through but nuffies keep saying 'why didn't we offer pick 9, we would have got papley' - um, no we wouldn't have. Swans were straight up about that

SOS spent time working out a trade that works when/if the daniher deal went through, which Sydney agreed to as they were offering pick 9 to Essendon.

Martin will be a Carlton player..Suns and Demons will not draft him in psd...FACT!!..

I agree. They can't afford for it not to happen.

Never seen you use the word fact before, and so emphatic too.

If we're going to massively front end a contract, I'd rather have had Brad Hill than Martin.

When did hill say he wanted to come to Carlton? Players need to agree to terms before being traded or in 'make believe world' where any suggestion you make is easily achievable?

Id rather have Dustin Martin than Hill, makes as much sense as your comment

Butler played 7 games this year
Taylor played 5.

They are both nothing players.

Depends how you look at it, I wouldn’t call either, nothing players, Butler averages more than a goal a game and Taylor has 88 goals in just over 100 games. Both were cheap and would be an upgrade on several players on our list. I’m not fussed we didn’t get them, my post was more about posters criticising these two, both of which have quite a few of our players in similar positions covered.

With Betts playing Small Forward I reckon Gibbons could have a fair go at the other Wing as well.

And if Cuningham can get his body right next year, he and Betts could be a handful up forward

Sydney.

Were.

Offering.

Pick.

Nine.

To.

Essendon.

Clear indication that whatever we'd lined up for Papley was acceptable to them provided it would secure Daniher.

Does that mean it was offered on its own does it?
I’m slowly moving on from this, it would have been nice to try get a deal done independently from the * crap, asking whether pick 9 on its OWN was offered or more, may have tempted Sydney to do a deal, if it was early enough then they would have had time to chase a replacement.
