Excellent question BrisbaneCFC

Silvagni on SEN this morning seemed a little evasive to me.

IIRC - He said they hadn’t talked to him but may over the next couple of weeks.

Keep in mind it’s not in Silvagni or Carlton’s interests to “announce” what his intentions are - so everything he says publicly needs to be taken with half a bucket of salt......

IMHO - Eddie seems to be a bit of a legend in the eyes of the Indigenous boys and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Harley thought he’d like to tuck himself under Eddies wing for a couple of years.

Time will tell.
I think he showed zero interest today and didn’t want to appear rude is all. I’d say close to zero chance we go that way.

Unless Cochrane goes all in and wants to tie up $1m per year (for arguments sake let's say that's what SOS makes the contract) on Jack Martin then Cochrane has a $1m per year over 2 years tied up in a player who doesn't want to be there just because he wants to make a stand when they could be luring established talent to the club with that money. It would be idiocracy.

Cochrane is “playing the game”.

If Jack Martin wanted to “play the game” after GCS takes him back in PSD?

He plays zero games due to mental health issues & keeps his $1M.

And ends up at Carlton the following year.

“We can all play the game if we want to”.

I’m know that I’m going on like a broken record, but I am extremely disappointed that we’ve missed out on Papley.

I have no issue with our approach to the Martin trade, and am confident that we’ll pick him up in the PSD for nothing.

But given that Papley was contracted, and given that we could get Martin for next to nothing through the PSD, I think we could have paid overs and left Sydney with no choice but to trade him.

On account of the Martin trade breaking down, we could have then given up pick 9 and our second round pick next year for Papley. The net result would be Papley, Martin and we’d still get to keep the third round pick that was supposedly offered for Martin.

Given that Papley was contracted, we had to pay more than his market value. We benefited from this exact scenario with Gibbs. And I simply don’t accept that he wasn’t available. If we offered up the picks I’ve suggested and called up Papley’s manager, he’d be straight on the phone to the media saying that Papley can’t play in NSW and might give up the game next year if he’s not traded and in doing so force Sydney’s hand.

Would love to keep our 2nd and 3rd rounder next year, use them, and they turn out to be 200 game guns. I hate Goldcoast right now, love that they’re coming across as flogs.

Getting Martin for free would somewhat ease the pain of missing on Papley. I've maintained the whole way through that Martin has more upside for mine and I was and am still very excited to see him in navy.
Now do we have the nerve to pick Harley Bennel on a one year deal to ease the pain even further? there is a risk I'd be willing to have a go at! From all reports a Sydney Stack style turnaround is happening with him.
How about we get Martin for free, and try again for Papley in 12 months.

I think the point is that they saw no worth in a second-round future pick because the AFL gave them a massive hand-out. They simply don't care if they get zilch for Martin. It's easy to make these bold decisions when you're drowning in top end picks.

Let's be clear, if the AFL doesn't hand over all those priority picks, Martin deal gets done.

That we've had to go through this rubbish is entirely on the AFL.

Like GWS the GCS are chasing quality over quantity.

They’re not interested in R2 and R3 picks.

R1 picks or GTFO.......

That’s what happens when Santa visits and over fills your goodie bag.

No way Jack Martin goes back to GC. The AFLPA would be all over it, a player wanting out for 2 years straight and the club refused to accept a fair deal.

According to the delusional GC board posters, Carlton not offering a first round pick for Jack Martin means we don't rate him and are racist. And that's in between telling various Carlton posters to **** off. Interesting reading.

2 problems here.

1. Swans made it clear they would not trade Papley unless Daniher deal went through.

2. Your naked ambition is leading you astray....

Except for their Ah Chee trade to Brisbane.

So stupidly pig-headed by the Suns. Even if they don’t need the points, a 2nd and a 3rd (aside from being overs) are really good assets to trade, either for a player or a higher pick next year when lots of clubs need points.

Yet J Martin’s Manager was talking up how well Carlton has developed its focus for the Indigenous guys.

think we need to forget about bennell. we dont need. gcs freo couldnt fix ...whats the chance of us getting him right? very low imo. if he is serious then let him make the changes in his life first and prove he is serious about playing afl.
Watch him go around in the VFL or WAFL for half a season and pick him up in the mid season draft Pickett/Deluca/Dunkley style.

Yet they don't seem to have any issue with forcing Martin into a state of oppression.

Martin did his time at the Suns. The deal was reasonable. They didn't do the right thing by him in the first place by not setting up for success, and they don't allow him to pursue other options.

He's out of contract. Making him go through this is unreasonable. He should be spending time settling into a new environment. Instead, he has to deal with unnecessary conflict initiated by the Suns.
