Delisted 41. Cameron Taheny (2020- 2021)

Hard to argue with a couple of those goals.... he is a high impact from low possession type player. good hands . accurate relaxed set shot .. spring and speed? I presume no right foot..typical left footer. He is the type that will frustrate and win games for clubs. So please no jumping off fences at pubs or having bad knees injuries for this one...

Are you expecting him to play next year? Or is he too far off AFL ready

It will not be based on talent.

I never think any drafted player can play ....till they show what they can do preseason. If you can run and do the unfun stuff then you will not play. I did not with Kelly or Clark or whoever etc ... so only time will tell. But he will not get a game on talent without being able to carve the K's .

If he is lapped by Blitz it might be a while before he plays..if he holds his own then who knows...

Right now Kennerlley is front of the next to be a debutants and apparently is a good mate... so a good example may not be far away.

Can he kick with his right foot? In the video above all left foot kicks. In the last play it looks like he was setup for a relatively easy right foot shot at goal, but changed direction so he could go with the left, even though it was a tighter shot.
the left footer curse? He kicks a lot of setshots .. I suspect he is very one sided.. yet guys like couch eventually found a way to make it work.

For anyone interested... put on a bit of a freak show that day

Nice leg, albeit the right one is for looks only. Some coaches prefer a player to take a 25% chance at a kick on their preferred than a 100% chance on their non preferred anyway.

To the Final Bell podcast mentions Taheny was mates with Jarvis and Kennerley at Rostrevor.
I told ya Wellsy would jump on this pick, way way before the draft.
I reckon its a great pick-up with pick 50.
Right in contention for next season, this kid played against men.

Will be keen to see how Dylan Williams who Port selected will go in his career compared to this kid...
Both look like good talents. Williams looks a bit more one-sided on the left, this kid looks like he has slightly more balance on the right.
A bit funny how Port chose the Vic kid, and we took the SA one.
Either or, I'd be pretty happy with Williams or Taheny on the list, glad we got one of them!

Wasn't just rostrevor either. They are all from isolated towns out on the EP that are near each other. Would have played against or alongside each other in a few interschool/sapsasa tourneys

I believe he ran a 6:47sec 2kmTT, if he’s a bit under done that's a pretty fair effort, with plenty of room for improvement.
Should be well inside 6:30 with a pre season running program.
Sounds like he knows how to bust his guts, reckon he'll be alright.

From further reading, it sounds like he had the aforementioned corky, along with groin issues and a knee problem. Huge upside.
Agreed, recent history with injuries is always a plus and Wells special. Combined with questions on his mental dedication this kid should be a superstar very quickly. Wish him all the best

Stumbled across this today, SA draft guru Chris25's assessment of Taheny at the start of the year:

SA Draft Notes (Feb)

For mine, the #1 prospect is Cameron Taheny from Norwood. And that's not just from SA, but in the mix for the #1 spot overall. The 184cm and 72kg flanker is as talented as anyone in the draft pool, and can do things in the forward half that few others his size can. He's too strong in the air and on the lead for similarly sized defenders, but he's too good on the ground for key defenders. Highlighted by a 24 disposal, 12 mark and 8 goal game last year in the SANFL U18s. He's also shown an ability to play off half back too, using his long kick to good effect. Shapes as a similar prospect to Connor Rozee, the next step for 2019 will be to improve his body strength and running to make the move into the midfield.

I would say Freddie is next to debut before Kennerly

On the Cats podcast, Matt Stokes said Ben Jarvis is the one to watch this year.

We will see I guess ... I havent heard of how Jarvis is running but Kennerley pushing the rest in their running drills will get noticed.. and kennerly was probably a good amount ahead of him in the VFL last year. All these guys in the fringe will be encouraged by the likes of Miers but they should also be motivated when they look at Simpson and Parsons etc ..cause you have a window to do something before the next group come in and start pushing for their selection. The way Stephens looked ..he will be pressing for a game..so Constable better step it up. The rest this year may give that 2018 group a bit more breathing space but the clock is always tcikcing.

Do Stokes say what impressed him? Is Jarvis Indigenous ? Any idea at what minute he mentioned him..I must have missed the refer.

He was rated the best SA talent heading into this year. Youve got an absolute steal at pick 50.
Im slowly warming to him but unless he is a freak of immense proportions, and if so would be a draft error by all teams of similar proprtions ..he will need to do better in the things that is not about on field talent. When they mention skin folds etc .. he will need to tidy up that part of his prep.

Jarvis is not indigenous. Stokes didn't say a lot. He said Jarvis is a typical country boy and when he arrived last year he was very raw and didn't really know what was expected of him. He said Jarvis has returned in outstanding nick (probably has something to do with him being best mates with Kennerley), and is a ripping fella. Said he can play anywhere but will probably play half forward.

Chris25 and Knightmare both had him as a chance for #1 pick at the start of the year. Cal Twomey had him in his top 10 prospects. Fair to say the "freak of immense proportions" might not be out of the question.

Would not be the first with that expectation issue ..Hawkins has said he looks back with disdain at his early years saying he wasted a couple of them..

I agree with Stokes he did look lost that's why looking at him I thought he would never make it, but that would be a bonus if he turns that around
