As i stated before, the kid adored his Dad. He lives with him still i think. He has seen first hand the toll this has taken on him.

And not for the first time. SOS got a lot of grief over the salary cap shenanigans that was undeserved.

I can understand why it happened but he is still a professional footballer who has spent his entire life around football clubs. They are taught not to do this stuff and although I realise he is young and passionate I thought he would be more mature. He has been sucked into something and done something that can bring absolutely no good to anyone.
I’m not saying what he done is some sort of hanging offence but I did think he would be smarter then this.

Its his dad at the end of the day, you know his first hero in life, happens to be a legend of the club he loves to boot..... and therein lies the problem I think!

He has two boys on the list and this situation was always going to end up like this. Jack backs his dad and I would say that Steve would back his sons to the hilt also...that's family! When it's all said and done can he really remove himself from delisting his boys when it comes time for that? remove himself from their contract negotiations which will affect their lives and also the lives of the other players who operate under the same salary cap? I think we all know the answer to this deep down. It's unavoidable and if the name wasn't Silvagni it would be agreed by all supporters it's not the best situation.

From what we hear he was always planning to vacate the role at the end of next season anyway. He has done a fantastic job but in reality the heavy lifting is done. It's up to the coaches of the club now to take the list forward.
This situation brings it about one year earlier. Not a great look for the CEO that's for sure, seems to be a bit too eager. But in saying that and knowing the ego of SOS as well it's two alpha males that can't get along here, it happens in business and most of the times it is untenable particularly between managers.

The person to go is usually the one lower on the food chain, particularly if the higher up manager is doing a good job, which we can all agree apart from this clash of personalities Liddle seems to be doing. A few months ago we were all singing his praises.

The club is bigger than the individual and everyone needs to take a chill pill here, the list is in fantastic shape thanks to SOS and we the members and supporters will never forget that (we are the club at the end of the day!). Off field we are in the best shape we have been for 25 years and the membership and revenues of the club are forecast to continue improving. Good players want to come to Carlton again and this will only continue in the next 5 years. Things are good and we should not lose sight of that because SOS has decided to retire a year early.

Everyone relax!

This whole episode takes me back to 1979. I loved Jezza, as we all did. He was shafted and in no way deserved it. Finished his playing day's at the Aints and probably has not returned to the club since.

Jezza did return us to coach us for a while (unsuccessfully I might add)

Also he still loves the club and has Navy Blue Blood running in his veins, going by his legend Hall of Fame speech a few years ago.

Time can heal all wounds :)

I thought he would be smarter then that.
A: don't ever make the mistake of thinking AFL players are either smart or professional.

B: it's his father. Probably his idol too. I can guarantee I've been through more down times with my dad than Jack ever will with his, but I'd still give my life for him. Jack would be furious at the way his father has been treated.

SOS was leaving in 12 months anyway.

Liddle hasn't taken charge of every recruiting decision.

This is getting blown way out of proportion by knee-jerk emotional responses.

who said Liddle has taken charge of every recruiting decision? He only takes charge when he wants to bring in a shit player from Richmond....

which is the whole issue - HE was the one with the conflict of interest - going behind the responsible persons back - not a good look for the Club and certainly NOT how a team playing CEO acts....
which brings up questions about his ability to you know - be a CEO.

It’s more the individual that has surprised me. Jack I did see as being smart and professional being SOS’s son and all. Also being brought up in the environment his entire life. He isn’t just an average Joe blow on the list. He is as close to the professional side of football as you can get because of his dad I thought he would have a better understanding of clubs and professionalism then he has displayed

Delist him - pay out his contract and sack Ben whilst we are it it..oh and all players who might like them too.....see where this situation goes?
Liddle has created a huge mess - as someone said above- he has shat in the bed.

The thing is that it's ongoing.
One bad mistake and let's all forgive and forget, but the same mistakes and the same bad blood, over and over again.

I'm not setting out to side with one party or another and even if I did, that's not even the point of the matter.
The point is that we, as an organisation, are seemingly incapable of handling difficult matters with any authority or dignity.
It just becomes one big mess that takes focus away from what we really should be doing.....and it just keeps happeneing.

This is not difficult to see, although it's somewhat more difficult to understand exactly why we cannot control what happens at our club.
...and we think that it will all be fine when the next person comes in. :) We just haven't learned if we think it's as easy as that.

It's clearly not blown out of proportions if we've already hired Liddle's replacement.

One instance, of a new CEO bringing a player from his old club, who was looking for a new club, in for a tour.

Agreed, not the right way to go about it, but we don't know if the lesson has been learned.

And furthermore, WE DIDN'T RECRUIT ELLIS. So Liddle didn't have the finay say.

On top of that, the recent mail was that the Ellis thing wasn't what lead to SOS's departure, it was the push to recruit Betts which came from Teague and Liddle (for different reasons).

I've said it before, if Liddle makes a habit of bringing players in for a look around the place, that needs to be reined in. I hope it already has, there are correct channels for that to go through and Liddle should now have been made aware of the protocols. Liken it to any other workplace - the boss knows someone from another company who is looking to move, rather than directing him to HR he invites them over to meet him for a coffee and a look at the office. It's not ideal, it maybe puts inferred pressure on HR which is why it should be avoided, but it's not "doing HR's job for them".

Will be interesting to see how our attempts to find a list manager go given they have to compete with the CEO to do their job.

Doubt we will find anyone with experience in the job.

Articles state how the MLG gave SOS carte blanche to build the list. A bit like saying we gave Bolton Carte Blanche to coach the team. MLG employed him to do the job without interference from people not qualified to make decisions ie the CEO and the Board.
I think you'll find the new list manager will need to work collaboratively with the Senior Coach, rather than the CEO. Something SOS was never good at.

Are you naive enough to think Clarko has no say over list management decisions at Hawthorn?

Would have thought Liddle stays at least in the short term (as i said before, Barass said recently that we cannot sack him for legal reasons)

What’s he trying to achieve though by liking a post like that?
It’s totally unprofessional.
He’s sticking up for his old man and addressing the rumours that SOS is leaving because of his performance.

Silvagni’s stick together as all families should. When the dust settles let’s just hope all parties can move on without animosity.

There's also the Club aspect.
3rd generation of the Number 1 family of Carlton. And there's this ****-up caused by a guy who's been here 2 years.

B_B - It is a mess of Liddle's making - he didn't understand the importance of 'managing' SOS out and controlling the narrative from a positive perspective versus 'forcing' him out. This is CEO #101 stuff. Now all sorts of opinions and emotions and stuff can fly around the place - it will be very hard to control - because SOS is a big name at Carlton and has been a big target since coming back - from certain elements in the media - all with links to Richmond btw ...

Mate, Jezza came back as an interim coach and goes to reunions and club functions. Take a chill pill ffs
