He's almost 13 now and as fit as ever. When I loved out, his cage got moved to the lounge room. Every day he gets let out, flies to my room and sits in the cupboard all day. Comes out at about 6, has dinner and maybe sits with mum for a bit then it's bed time. He's a bit weird. Can talk a bit but often doesn't. Says hello, where's Matt, puppy dog (we call him puppy because he used to mimic barking), what's the puppy doing, sings Imperial March and Pop Goes The Weasel (often a mashup).

He was a rescue I guess, about 6 years ago. No idea how old he is. Will happily sit on your shoulder all day and is so so pleasant natured. But not a fan of scratches or pats. We think maybe his last owners might have been a bit cruel to him. Here he is trying to get into the apples. He talks too, says hello, good boy, kiss, whatcha doing.

Next up is Oscar, a conure.

He is the biggest sook of the lot but he's also a little shithead. Just like yours, Ant Bear, he is super intelligent. He knows if I say "want a treat?" it means he has to go into his cage and wait on the perch for me to give him a treat. He says many things: hello, hello baby, sook, good sook, good boy, baby sook, do a dump, little shit, gimme kiss, shake. Hated me before I moved out but now won't leave me alone if I'm around.

We also have another conure but I don't have a pic of him. He did belong to my cousin but she wasn't really giving him the attention he needed so we've got him now. His name is Cheeky.

I’d probably consider a good brand of organically raised chicken and I’d roast it on the Weber Q

On Monday night Dolly and I had a fight. As she gets older it’s less common, but pretty much something we’ve done every other day her whole life.

It gets pretty full on. I whack her and take her legs out, she fights.

Every now and then she looses her mind.

On Monday she properly bit me. Really hard. Not only do I have a deep whole in my left hand, that I cleaned but that got infected, three days later, if I press in the wrong place it really hurts.

I reckon she’s cracked my middle metacarpal right back near the wrist.

Awesome.

Kelpies are my all time favourite dog. You virtually have to be on a property to own one though. Preferably with sheep for the dog to walk around on.

A neighbour had one when I was growing up. Massive escape artist. They rebuilt their backyard with 7 foot high fences to keep him in. Didn’t work - he just hurled himself at the barrier and scrambled over. Our gain though. He came and visited every neighbour daily once he had escaped - fetched sticks for hours, got a bonio then went back to his freaked out owners each night.

A school I worked (millions of years ago) at would get a fast and furry visitor most mornings, right on the play bell. Kids would line up to play to kick with a soccer ball and Deigo Maradoga.

One mistake that I made during the fires, although it wasn’t a mistake and I have a witness, was to believe that a neighbour and I had agreed that I should let my cows go immediately on a day of threat.

Normally it’s really important to maintain your fences and to maintain electric fences. It’s your responsibility not to mess with your neighbours, it’s your responsibility to keep your moos. Safely.

At time of fire everything changes. You pull the cows back to the house, where you can defend them, you turn off the electric fencing, and you open every gate that you can. No person here would trap an animal between fire and an electric fence.

Then let the animals go when you need to. Let them run.

On the day after the really bad day here, where I was ready to fight for my cows at the house, I thought that my neighbour and I had agreed that I open their gate and let them go. Um. Not quite.

Well, if you know cows, let them into a new paddock and they get happy and run. They ran. Out onto the road below. Excellent.

By about 6:30 that morning their kelpie had them all rounded up and in their pen.

Awesome dog.

Seriously the smartest dogs ever. The untrained, escape artist neighbour dog I knew rounded stuff up out of protective instinct. Chickens, birds, whatever. It used to go down to the local primary school every lunchtime and he wasn’t satisfied until he had every little kid bunched in a tight unit in the middle of their playing ground. Then he just sat there with his satellite dish ears making sure nobody strayed.

In this case their were fire trucks racing up and down the road all morning. It was critical that those cows be removed. I can’t remember the dogs name, but in that family a different dog, a cat, and a young adult child had all left.
 
We decided to get a couple of children instead of having pets. They’re lovely and very smart.

They don’t need much exercise - they mostly just lounge around the house all day, and they eat anything in sight.

I would post photos of them in their adorable little outfits but they banned me from posting photos of them as soon as they were old enough to speak.

Sometimes I think they own us rather than the other was around.:rolleyes:
