The WACA - Downfall

Havent the feds recently forked out for upgrades at the following grounds in different states-

QLD- Allan Border Field,
NSW- Blacktown,
VIC- Junction Oval,
SA- Adelaide Oval, Karen Rolton Oval
WA- -----------!
What did the feds give for Karen Rolton Oval?

They gave $30m to AO, $18m ended up with the SMA and its book's to buy capital equipment rather than with the state Dept of Planning Transport and Infrastructure, who own the $535m asset, and $12m for the beautification of the parklands surrounding the oval.

If the facilities were good enough for Australia and the Scorchers to play there, what does it need upgrades for? Surely it doesn't cost $30,000,000 for a new office and pool and gym or whatever.

The facilities aren’t good enough, that’d be why they don’t play there anymore.

Am pleased that cricket is picking up some money, but not entirely sure how a high performance centre fits in with what the WACA has going at Murdoch University. I thought that was the purpose of their development in partnership with the uni?

I saw that photo on Lost Perth yesterday.

Has anyone got some snaps of the last footy game at the WACA? It was Fremantle v Richmond R19 2000?

Why were Fremantle in white shorts? Didn't want to be at the WACA?

During that season, teams with white in their guernsey would wear white shorts if they were playing a team that didn’t have white in their guernsey, even if they were the home team. If both had white, then the away team would wear white shorts.

Sydney would still wear red shorts at home, but did wear white shorts at home to Brisbane.

An interesting piece of trivia about the WACA - never once in the 14 years the WACA ground was used (1987-2000) did Richmond play West Coast at this venue, with all Eagles vs. Tigers matches in Perth played at Subiaco. However, Richmond were Fremantle's opponent in the last match at the WACA, a day game late in the 2000 season.

There is contstant evolving of our language and then there is this s**t. I would love to know who wrote this. Good grief!

Who penned that Maurie, or did you hear it?

Dont remember the WACA being de-ovalised nor does Google ....
