Dennis was a gun returned to Mounts to finish and played key forward in Flags. I only seen the occasional game here and there so not to knock down any one elses suggestion but The Best Player I can remember seeing over in the GV was the Full Forward from Tat Steven Ryan Super Star. Huge leap take speccies or diving marks and good kick at goal from a set shot or snaps. Was known to be pretty casual but a Country Football star heard he kicked 4 in an Intra Club game at Collingwood at one point but never played a Season down their.
Steve was also a real good person off the field .

Why did he get the boot after winning a flag ringo?
Pretty sure he suffered a serious knee injury and that there was no certainty of him playing again, and shepp wanted a playing coach. Scott went to tonny the following year, if i recall correctly, and played the majority of the season. Pretty sure he was running around in the bendigo fl twos a few years ago still

It's amazing how far the league has dropped in 20 years ringo, Maffra were strong this year but nothing like between the 70s to mid 90s
Yeah I think it has dropped right off. Three of our guns in Craig Lazarro, Brad Sparkes and Gary Hawker all joined Rochester and had an impact in the GV. As for Alan Thorpe goes he was a freak. His son Jaylon plays for Willy and is likewise.

GV website/GVtv/Historic grand finals.

Steve Ryan kicks a lazy 8 goals in the 1998 Grand Final against Ringo's old mates Hawker, Sparkes and Lazarro. He dominated that day.

Interesting read regards to government assuring the offset of revenue
My take on this is footy will be back but without crowds(at very least to get a season started)
The interesting question for mine now is.. will leagues vote to go ahead if these costs are to be offset?

obviously need more clarity on what could be offset but id be pretty confident to say the government wont be paying for players to play and would go more towards offsetting gate, canteen, bar etc.. so it may come down to players willingness to play for very little or nothing this year if this is the case?

It was interesting to see when Tatura named their best side in the last 125 they had Trav Ryan at FF and Steve Ryan as one of the Emergencies
Wow, that surprises me! Swoop, it's funny how clubs see their own players compared to an outsiders view. I promise not to mention Miller again after this post, but did you know he never won a B&F at Rochy.

Maybe home clubs took freakish talents of these sorts of players for granted. Or perhaps the insiders at home clubs knew better than the rest of us?

No need to stop talking about Robbie Miller silver, he was unreal to watch. The shepp/rochy granny where he and Anthony Mellington took hangers on one another all day is stuck in my memory

The issue is that people expect so much of the stars and when they consistently play well people see it as the expected.

Hey Noosa, would like to think Reece was taking the piss regarding that particular umpire in the '93 GF but suspect it was true.
