Home ground advantage is a very over-rated concept in my book, especially at the lower reaches of the VAFA. The best team invariably wins, regardless of the venue
I think HGA is still valuable when teams are evenly matched, but, as you say, a better will invariably win regardless of venue. Most grounds are nuanced enough to aid the home teams in knowing how to play 'their ground', which can have an impact. Chelsworth Park, Fawkner R and EE Gunn all have flat wings, Ferndale Park is very small, Vic Park (Kew) and Scammell Reserve are almost circular due to being cricket grounds.

Agreed. Write off the 2020 season - 75 cases in a day is comparable to what we had in the peak of Covid.
The most people we had in hospital at any one time was 50. 13 of those were in ICU. At the moment we have nine in hospital and one in ICU. This time last week we had nine in hospital and three in ICU.

Don't take that as me being indifferent to the sudden spike in cases, but if we can stabilize the cases without an escalation in hospital or ICU admissions, then we'll just have to live with it. We can enforce social distancing measures and live a life at the same time. Remember that the vast majority of the new cases are not as a result of community transmission.

I think you'll find the vast majority of these cases is from community transmission, ie known clusters, routine testing etc. This virus i sin the community and while I agree the numbers arent as desire because not as many people are in hospital, I cant see the VAFA going ahead with the season

Tomorrow's betting
$1.92 Over / Under 101.5 new cases

I'll take over please.

Also, it's worth mention that only needs to scroll back a page or two on this forum to see we were (most of us anyway) were expecting the cases to hover around the 30 per day mark. In the last 3 days, it's gone up and up and up. As 2's Hack has hinted, there is every chance we hit the triple figure mark by tomorrow or even the end of the week.

Get real people, this will unfortunately get better before it gets worse.

You mean worse before it gets better, yeah?

I find it a little strange that junior football competitions can play as well as most under 18 competition. The majority of these competitions are playing. Vafa would have most 19-25 year olds playing, yet they can’t play. But playing senior footy is deemed a concern health wise.. so if clubs want to play and $$ isn’t an issue why is it ok to play juniors and U18 but not senior footy as it’s a health concern..
Most senior competitions have pulled out due to money.. most junior comps actually fund the senior comps. So it’s in interest for senior clubs to have them play. It has little to do with health reasons why senior clubs have pulled out..all financial and vafa clubs shouldn’t have that financial issue

Lol. It's nearly July and we have exponential growth going on. Any league considering playing now is doing for one reason and that's fees. The actual thought of VAFA season going ahead without a single player or official case is laughable, not to mention it's league spread right across melbourne which makes it worse. The AFL is barely coping with their resources, the reliance on local clubs now is downright irresponsible

I can add from our clubs perspective that some players believe its irresponsible to go ahead. Havent spoken to many players from other clubs, but I am sure that many are feeling very uneasy about playing.

The biggest issue is what happens when a player tests positive and the ensuing isolation for that team and what impact that has on the integrity of the competition? What if one team has to isolate for 14 days? Does the team that are fixtured to play them get the 4 points if the club can’t field a team? What about if it happens in finals? Nearly impossible among this uncertainty to hold a competition. I think a path of friendlies or round robin matches could be achieved but not a regular competition with a 8-10 week fixture

You'll do the same thing if/when someone tests positive in 2021 & 2022. If we don't learn to deal with it now & evolve, community sports as we know them are finished, period. There is no better time to see if it can be done than in a shortened season. If health was an issue, junior football would be canned. There are a shit load more grandparents at junior games than VAFA games.

NJB,

Most people know my thoughts, and I only speak for myself.

From my observations we have only two players who indicated that they are not keen to train under current environment. They have specific logical reasons.

Everyone else is on.

We will accept the decision, but lets do our best to play.

VAFA are charging 25% of fees regardless. Not a real money grab.

Max "off to training, socially distancing of course" Leader

They are testing just about everyone in the bad areas . Seems like 20 to 30 year old selfish prix are behind a bit of this . Of course it was going to show more cases with so many extra tested.
In LA on Saturday they had 2,369 new cases and 23 poor people passing away, we are not that bad.
Shit footy league put out a fixture today.

The virus is still "new" but we have learnt so much in 6 months including treatment options, id say in another 6 months we will have learnt far more again. Im not saying the virus might not be around in a year or 2 but the methods we may have learnt to deal with them will hopefully improved not to mention Oxford is optimistic they may have a Vaccine by next season.

As for a "health issue" kids have shown they are more or less immune from the harshest effects of the virus, they also wont use change rooms and social rooms..

Its simply far to risky imo. ANY other state in the country and it would be game on but Victoria drew the bad hand here.

We didn't draw the bad hand, dickheads have caused it.
