Long seems to have lost his impact since the suspension. Think he’s second guessing himself. Don’t know what’s going on with Clark but he is lost at present.
I know the coaching staff have tried to slow our play down but it is having an horrendous effect on our transition. Our game style us barely recognisable from mid year.
I think we may have been trying to pay homage to Richo last night by playing our 2018 game plan.

Port A

Port Adelaide have 11 on their list over 30 they are at last chance Saloon.

Not all doom & gloom Gringo ....think half back line of Coffield / Howard / Clark excellent.
Bytel / Byrnes / Connolly see good upside ..all can kick the footy
Marshall only going to get better, King too.

If North don’t want Polec .... I do.......think Hill & him on Marvel wings would be nice.
Think we have moved past guys Lonie / Kent ...myself .

Agree - we need to be brave enough to pump games into Bytel / Byrnes and even Connolly (all when recruited I was excited due to reports on all being good ball users) not drop after one game - they do not have the chance to adapt.

Lonie and Kent should be complimenting these players as the do provide good pressure in the forward line.

Good teams (thinking the Hawks of the last decade) have always been able to bring in good ball users.

Our game style is still in development, let's leave King alone - believe he will be a long term player for us.

We've got a bloke named Carlisle. He's kicked a few goals in his time. He is bigger than May, perhaps he could have stood his ground and taken a bit of the focus off King?
May would rip Jake to shreds , Jake gets pushed aside by Ben King , would have made no difference IMO

after watching the game last night, in my opinion, 2 things were glaringly obvious, the first is that we need another midfielder, full stop. We only had 2 players get over 20 disposals (Hill 27 and Steele 26, Jones got 20) with only 2 players getting big numbers in the mid, it is going to make it very difficult to win games, especially if a team is able to put the clamps on Steele, then we have very, very little (luckily that hasn't happened so far). So as we all agree we need to target another mid who slots straight in to best 22 whether that is Caldwell, Kelly, RCD, Brayshaw etc, we need to bring at least 1 of those in this year to set ourselves up.

The second thing that I think people are seriously underestimating is our need for another small forward, Yes Butler has been amazing this year, but teams have figured out now that he is so critical to us and how we play that they are sending their best small defender to him, if he gets nullified we have no help for him, the revolving door of small forwards Lonie, Kent, Parker and Hind has not worked. I mean Hind and Kent combined for less than 15 disposals and no goals last night. In their defence, it didn't Help that May marked absolutely everything and the ball didn't hit the ground, but they had no impact at all during the game around the ground. When Gresh comes back that will make a huge difference to helping our forward line, but I think we still need to get someone in who can impact the scoreboard, whether the Bobby Hill rumours are true or even someone like Issac Smith potentially, we just need small who can impact the scoreboard and help relieve Butler of all the work.

On a side note, I believe that was one of the most frustrating displays from the Saints under Ratten, I would have had no issue if we got thoroughly beaten and outplayed and lost, but we didn't, we had nearly 20 more inside 50's and lost, because we went back to the saints of old and just bombed it in without looking, which I thought was extremely disappointing, not sure what is going on with Billings, but just looks lost the last 2 weeks, is a confidence player so I would say start him in the guts get his confidence up early with hopefully a few touches early. On a positive, was easily Hill's best game and was arguably the only player (Steele at times) who was taking the game on and running with the ball, the rest of our team played like mark, stop, kick long to a contest or short to a player 20 m away who then does the same. Need Roughy to come down ASAP and help our forwards work on their structure because has not worked at all the last 2 weeks.

I doubt we beat the hawks , way to well drilled for our rabble

Are Hawthorn well drilled? They way they play doesn’t suggest it.

Doesn’t mean we won’t loose to them though as we seem to be prone to dishing up some pure trash when playing teams below us on the ladder.

Its actually unbelievable sometimes how little composure some of our guys and importantly some of our more experianced guys have

Kent, Jones, Ross, Billings, even Brad Hill at times, Long, Howard, Members.

Like when kicking iside 50 even under pressure don't kick it behind our forwards kick it in front, not rocket science, Also forwards ffs bring the ball down, its disgraceful, its actually unbelievable when you get the ball in a guy like Jack Sincliars hands who takes a split second longer to actually direct his kick how much difference it makes.

me too...think we won’t win a game ...wheels fallen off

Oh henny penny the sky has not fallen, but your expectations of us being a gun team every week probably need to.

We're on the right track and are every chance to respond with avengence (as we have done several times this year) one week from now.

In 5 years at Essendon he kicked 55 goals. In 4 years at Saints he has kicked 4. We all get on here and talk about no plan B but here is a guy who clearly gives us a plan B...even if it is just to give King some chop out and take the gorilla defender. King was thrown to the lions tonight.
He has kicked 7 for us , he is not the same player he was back in 2013 - 2015 , he can jump or run anymore

LOL Im betting this weeks pay that Stewart doesn't think we have a team of Guns , your so far off the mark its not funny

I think what most are leaved about is the lack of response from the Brisbane game.

We didn't do anything wrong in the brisbane game aside from play against one of the absolute best teams in the comp, at home, in ripping form... losing by a whopping margin of 2 points.
Why on earth would we need to 'respond'?

Conversely we definately DO need to respond in a week after playing nowhere near our best against the dees.

I'll buy someone a virtual beer if they can tell me if play on from a mark or free stats are available somewhere?

I remember several weeks ago the commentary on tv saying we had the highest play on rate in the comp.

I can't imagine we were anywhere near that this week.
It's an easy fix- we just need to go back to daring to win rather than trying not to lose or make a mistake.

When NASA were racing the russians to get to the moon first- they identified the whole organisation was too risk adverse and careful- which meant that they weren't gonna get there before the soviets.

Part of their strategy in changing this risk adverse culture was directing all the senior executives and bosses to literally applaud and cheer in mission control everytime something unmanned and expensive blew up on the launchpad.

I reckon ratts will be doing plenty of that in the review of this game- throwing the spotlight on, and applauding guys that made mistakes, but made them trying to take the game on.

We lost because all game we played slow and safe, not because of specific turnovers or dropped marks or missed setshot.

We lost it with a timid attitude that ratts is only partway through beating out of us after 6 years of richo trying to not lose rather than win.

There were real structural problems last night that the coach needs to sort out- especially in the forward half. King is a season or two from being the player some imagine him to be, or want him to be- got the skills but lacks core strength, but it will come with maturity..time to rest him. Hind and Kent did nothing offensively or defensively last night( and last week) and maybe both need to go. Butler tried here and there, but there is a lack of intensity with our small forwards. Clark and Billings did very little. Good work generally from our backline, though I think Geary may have contributed to two Melbourne goals by poor decision making.
Not sure about Lonie coming in and out of the team, I would rather get games into Byrnes and Bytel. I would like to see Battle at CHF and Membrey at FF.

Nothing wrong with last night that Brad Crouch and a fit Hannebery wouldn't fix.

Unfortunately though Hannebery will probably never be properly fit again, and who knows how many suitors Crouch will have this year. If I was him I'd go to Gold Coast and make them into a serious contender.

You need to respond to every loss if you are even to start considering yourself a top 8 team and we have for the most part this year. Our game has been slowing week by week not just last night.
Our game against Brisbane was well below where we have been. Sorry but taking pivotal marks and kicking straight has a huge impact on both momentum, confidence and we have lost both. Our forward efficiency is pathetic now and our C grade players are falling behind.

We're just in the 8. We've lost 4 games by under 10 points. We're not really ready to challenge. It's pretty obvious. We're a relatively consistent team.

Last night was so irritating however we aint winning a flag with a 15 gamer at FF. We're building toward something. In that process we'll havw 'nearly' games and 'nearly' seasons. We'll also evolve and in doing so, the Geary and Hind types will either be good enough or be ushered out. We need to add a few, its so clear.

We're on the righ track and may yet do a bit of damage this year. I shudder to think where we'd be this year without the changes made in the last 12 months. We need to keep calm and support the boys. We'll get there!
