Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Correct....no decent footballer in his prime has joined carlton via trade since the rebuild

Richmond signed Prestia after finishing 13th.

Collingwood signed Treloar after finishing 12th.

Essendon signed Shiel after finishing 11th.

What makes us so different? There’s no reason why we can’t absolutely smash this trade period. There’s finally some direction now after laying the foundations.

FWIW Martin is in his prime and elite. Chose us over the Dogs, Bombers and the two WA clubs. And say what you want about Gov but he was more than decent at the end of 2018. This from the bottom 4.

Jack Martin is the only outstanding footballer in his prime who has joined us in 4 years via trade
It would seem SOS' strategy/ inflexibility scuttled more than a few. For better or worse we will never know. Austin from all accounts far more pragmatic. I think with hindsight given where we are as a list, with the coin we have and coinciding with a large list of quality players seemingly available the change from SOS to Austin will be seen as having occurred just at the right time.

That's interesting too.

I heard Stocker in a similar style interview a year or so ago and i got the impression of a well spoken, interesting, intelligent and thoughtful young man from him too.

Yet the ego thing is getting a good run about him too.

Maybe they just rub a lot of footy people up the wrong way, i dunno. The same is said about Grundy too and he seems the same. Danger too. Fyfe too. Gawn too. And probably many other lesser lights we don't hear much about.

But getting back to Witherdan, i have heard that he has that ego and rubs a few people the wrong way and Fagan may just be one of those. From my viewing, i have always sensed that he had a pretty good impression of himself from his earliest games, yet i haven't fancied his game much. He doesn't add to his fellow back 6 much, just looks after Alex. As a footballer, i rate him as only just. He's ok if you've got no-one better, but you'd really like someone better. I see him as more the next say Jack Newnes than the next Brad Shephard for instance.

Some players have got the goods to play 150 games in mediocre not very meaningful games. And then some players have got the goods to help teams go somewhere.

Thanks for response TW. Enjoyed reading your thoughts.

FWIW - I always doubt team value of players that don’t tackle and have low CP’s.

Signals to me that they don’t like hard work and want the easy option.

Not a chance in hell he ends up at Carlton. Id say 95% of players when drafted could not give a fu** about who they barracked for previously.

Dunkley ended up at the Dogs.

There was an article a week or so ago, where his brother mentioned he was still going for the Blues when we played them earlier in the season.
It makes you wonder, how early would a team have to bid, for you to pass up a father son?

How can Collingwood afford him? Treloar, Sidebottom, Adams, Varcoe, Pendlebury, Elliot, WHE, Moore, Crisp. How in absolute hell can Collingwood afford the 1 mill a year plus he'd be asking?

Silly season has well and truly started.

I doubt Cameron would be asking for $1 million from Collingwood. He would ask for maybe $1.2 million from North and maybe $750-800K from Collingwood. The chance to play in Finals and for a big club has other commercial benefits.

Also I think most players at Collingwood are underpaid their market value - most have bought into the Club. I think we will be the same once our players become household names.

you don't have to prove anything to this poster - he doesn't take any notice anyway - I recommend you key your own car and lock yourself in the boot instead

All the turn over with our list was done with a purpose. Most of the main players we aimed to target to improve the list have worked out. The salary dumps and most of the various players not in those deals were never aimed to be long term players for the club, I think that was clear as day. Kerridge, Phillips, Lamb etc all were stepping stones to get the list where it is right now. It allowed time for our new youngsters to develop and get to the point of knocking on the door or being in the 22. Furthermore, alongside the salary dumps, most of the key players targeted in those trades or the crux of the trades, have worked out. I don’t need to re state what SOS did because many have done it recently in these threads.

I think people miss the point. The rebuild wasn’t just to do with the young draftees coming in, it was also to utilise trading to bring in decent foot soldiers to buy those kids time. TDK for example is perfect in context - Phillips, Gorringe, Lobbe - all there as back up for an injury prone Kreuzer with the club knowing they were most likely biding their time with Tom when he came in at Pick 30. Pittonet’s season has been pretty successful too and comes off again as smart trading for our list. In the meanwhile we’ve gotten some best 22 players in Setterfield, Plowman and Martin and arguably Newman now that Simmo has retired. We’ve also had our misses with acquisitions too; McGovern the biggest one of all.

We strike now. The quality needs to come now. I absolutely agree. But this is the first post season where I feel some confidence we will secure those types of players. Papley and Coniglio would have been amazing, but the timing is right more than ever.

Parkin did exactly the same thing in 91, when they bought in players like Scholl, Aceri, Edgar, Athorn to plug the holes until they could get kouta, Ang, etc etc Ready ,and add Big Earl, Pierce etc . the difference I suppose was that it was a much older side with a lot of senior players already . But the reasoning was the same.

Not sure how much a of a reliable narrator Mick is in this case

It was in the media/news article as a direct quote from Malthouse himself, he'd be risking making an absolute goose of himself if it turned out to be 'made up'. Nobody has queried it.

Dunkley ended up at the Dogs because for whatever misinformed reason, Sydney didn't take him.
Young Daicos has all the tools to be a seriously good footballer. Im more of a chance of growing wheels and becoming a motorbike than of Collingwood letting him go.
Also, it seems we will be using our 1st to lure an established player. No way he slips into the later rounds and bidding a 2nd would be akin to Dodo bidding for young SOS. It would be a pisstake.

This is the first time I've read it.

Cripps would’ve learnt a lot about leadership this year. Probably carrying injury, but tried to do too much all year, and not being the other younger team members in.

I feel that’s where we have gone wrong. Too many senior players going to the players they are confident in?

I just found out on the * board, Saad is worth 2 first round picks. How could we get another first round pick so we could afford him? Asking for a friend

any chance young reid might consider 2 first rounders for murph?

OK I’ll bite.

Escape dysfunctional football club

No Collective Minds pre-season camps

Reuniting with his favourite forwards coach

Wasn’t there also something with his partner’s uni degree being offered in Melbourne?
