***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

If one player was to have a list spot/development role, I'd take Betts over Murphy.
Maybe the deal may be one something like that.

i.e. We can't guarantee you a spot in the main team each week Eddie, but will you further your knowledge and support to the young guys, at VFL level?

If the whisper is true that Eddie Betts has played a big part in convincing Zac Williams to sign with us, than I would say that is reason enough to keep him on the list, plus I still think he has something to offer.

Not Marc Murphy's biggest fan but in all honesty he did more than enough this year to go around for at least one more season.

We have to be pragmatic about these sort of LM decisions.

Is there a source for this? Not seen the confirmation anywhere.

Last time I will respond to McGovern's contract status.

Has been done to death with all due respect Brackets.

I am fine with Eddie playing on if part of the discussion coming back was either a playing or coaching spot in 2021. Obviously unforeseen pandemic has changed that. Would just like us to not play favourites in selection next year. May also be a key reason in Williams coming*.

People are harsh on Murphy IMO. Best case a couple of the younger mids force him out through excellent form.

So does anyone know when the free agency nomination period occurs? I hope this doesn't drag on for weeks. I can only 'stress eat' so much mordadella and split vienna loaf bread..
Stocked up at the deli this morning....seems I was just in time.

Someone on the Essendon board here.

Not that it is neccesarily relevant, but Dodo placed a bid on him when he was drafted as well, maybe they really rate him (although I know DODO and SOS are good friends so it may have just been a cheeky banter bid)

So the 'whispers you heard' were from the Essendon Board.

Well then it must be true

the saad deal should get done pretty quick..

he's out of contract so dodo shouldn't bother with his games on him. get the feeling Austin won't be as theatrical as SOS and get it done early.

feeling positive we will get williams + saad here.. hard not to be excited.

....still wanna midfielder though.
Assuming Adrian Dodoro will act reasonably is a big mistake

Pretty sure it was reported widely that Dodo held up the deals, not SOS. We had an agreement with the Swans who would release Papley if Daniher deal was done. The Swans could not get * to agree to two first rounders for a broken down shell of a player.

If SOS was theatrical, how do you explain so many complex deals being done during his short tenure?

If Heath Shaw wanted to come back to Melbourne, I'd take him on as a player or a coach
Has the mongrel our young players don't seem to

Think Heater is cooked TBH Cookie.

I dunno, they paid a future 2nd for him. He's going to turn 27 middle of next season. #26 and throw in Polson to help cover the loss. Dodo will no doubt ask for pick #7

EDIT: BTW I do think a late 1st is fair

What they paid for him is irrelevant.

We paid nothing for Martin, doesn't mean we should accept a 4th rounder if he was out on contract end of next year and requested a trade.

Saad has certainly improved since joining Essendon, I think in this draft a late first or early second (18-24 before academy bids, potentially 20-28 after all those moves take place) should be sufficient.

The last time Dodo didn’t act reasonably it ended up costing * two first rounders for a bloke who played 4 games and none after Round 9 and then came back the following year and played 4 games for an output of 3 goals. I get that it is Dodo but surely he doesn’t make the same mistakes again. His club will always be down in the shitter if he’d rather screw over rivals than get the best deal for injured former stars who might not ever get back to their best.

Yeah, if we can convince Saad to come over and Essendon are determined that pick 27 is insufficient, we could potentially split pick 7 by trading to Geelong for pick 15 and 34, sending 15 to Essendon (maybe with an upgrade of our pick 45 to their pick 42 to make it slightly fairer to us).

Leaves us with Williams 🤞, Saad with picks 27, 34 and 42.

Add that to the arrival of Kemp and the return of Charlie, Marchy and Newman, and another preseason for all of our youth, we could still attract another player or two.
if we split 7 for 15 & 34, the person responsible should be sacked.

You dont give up a top 10 draft pick for someone who is uncontracted and a mid/late 2nd pick at best.

Dodo apparently is coming under fair bit of pressure from within. No finals forever. Has been list boss over this duration. Some board members are getting itchy palms to draw the guillotine. Maybe he has an imperative this season to get things moving to calm the inner rumblings. The Danaher trade still wrankles with many re ego getting in the way of what was best for the club. Makes sense, two top 10 draft picks would be looking a great deal right now.
