***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

I'm not aware of that one....

I just think it's interesting. BnF done and dusted, strong rumours of unrest at the club. This is a rumour discussion thread is it not?

Who a player is or isn't following doesn't constitute as a rumour IMO.

Also, just in case you weren't aware, it's now common in sports leagues around the world for sports psychs to recommend players unfollow team accounts during the off-season so they can get away from all of the noise and de-focus after a long year of constantly being switched on.

Merrett is a very good player but if Essendon were serious about a player that didn't want to be there, they should listen.

1. Merrett is a free agent next year
2. Essendon already have too many smallish mids with McGrath now being involved.
3. Shiel is tied down for the long run and Parish is a lot cheaper but still has scope to get better.
4. If Essendon could effectively trade Merrett for Wines....it may be a very good idea.

Fantastic summary Harks.
Essendon should really consider this, assuming Wines wants to go to Essendon.

What? I did no such thing.

I said it wouldn't surprise me if Dodo looked at Ben. Nor would it surprise me if he looked at Jack (as a trade).

No guarantee that Ben is even in the system next year.

It's a really tough year to be a 2-4 year player without any/much senior experience to get another crack immediately if delisted.
True that :)

However, Dodo would get Ben to train at the scum just to piss off the Carlton faithful!

I would suggest that they have particular players in mind and that these guys will be replaced in turn, whether it be a DFA or two or in the draft. It's not like any of these names have actually done anything at AFL level.
the majority of delistings always happen before the recruitment period starts.

If we can't find a suitable replacement and desperately need one of them, we can always re-rookie them. Hell, we can even have them on standby for the SSP in case Marchy falls apart again over the preseason.

Doubt we need them next year anyway, so realistically we've got two or even three off-seasons to recruit a depth key defender.

I don't have an issue with the names and have already mentioned that even Durdin would be better than Goddard

We can't get a handle on the new list management team and I am more interested in their mindset, of our structure

No draftee would be capable of replacing an injured Weits or Jones, so we need 1 probably 2 players behind them

I don't want to see a Dogs style/size backline KPD'S

Hope we don't cut Macreadie he just hasn't had a good run at it. Smooth mover, he'll get picked up and be a good player if he does. Prefer to keep him rather than a speculative late pick in the draft.
Maybe we're delisting him with the plan to move him to the rookie list... if there is one next year!

If we get Williams, he’ll be the only player on the list who has played a GF. Also the only player who has been in a final in the last five years. That would be something different.

ETA: I forgot Eddie. I have flagellated myself for this crime.

Picked a terrible time to suggest getting Hunter for unders. BOG in the game that got them into the 8.

I wonder if Dunkley could be available instead. Seems to have been pushed back out of their midfield group, spending a lot more time on the wing and up forward this year. Presumably thanks to the introduction of Bayley Smith and the very good form of Libba.

Could be a target for a late first if we split our own.

7 for two picks between 15 and 20. The earlier pick for Dunkley, the later pick for Saad.

EDIT: The more I think about this, the more I like it. Austin connection could work in our favour, we'd be offering him a starting position on-ball and a very generous contract extension, and I can't see the Bulldigs fighting too hard for a midfielder they can't even fit in their midfield, especially given they'll need to cut their list numbers too, and will be bringing in an extremely talented and athletic tall forward.
Dunkley is very close with Bont and recently elevated into our leadership group. A lot of the younger guys look up to him. I'd say it's close to zero chance anyone is able to poach him. Would have a better chance at Macrae, despite being the better player..
According to the HUN, The Crows will bid on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan with pick 1.

Wonder if we can get in on this action and try get something good from the Dogs, because they will wiped out from the rest of the draft as it stands right now with their points deficit.

Maybe Lachie Hunter for a 2nd round pick ?
Jesus Christ mate :tearsofjoy:

No you are are probably right, it's not a rumour as it's actual factual that he doesn't follow them anymore. Checked it.

I wasn't aware of that piece of information, please do link us. The sarcastic tone probably isn't required, especially given the nature of this thread and the fact that I rarely, if ever wade into these kind of topics.

Here we go.

4 delistings ...

Darcy Lang, Hugh Goddard, Ben Silvagni and Finbar O’Dwyer have been told that they will not be retained at the Club beyond 2020.

Told the following, no idea how reliable but a guy from work. (Who does have a friend in the Carlton media crew not in recruitment tho!)

Re Zac Williams:

- North offered him 7 figures, which Williams was told we can't match.
- Leon Cameron was told yesterday Williams wanted out. Apparently has passed a medical with us (struggle to believe this happened so quick)
- Betts played a big role in getting him to choose us as he did with Martin.
- Apparently done deal.

Also got told 6 players delisted, but when Lang wasn't mentioned in that 6 I call bullshit.
Awks, club just announced 4 delistings. Finbar, BSOS, Lang and Goddard.

There goes that source...

You need to find another source. :p

If we part with Macreadie, it will be for the right reasons. Last 2 seasons (could say 3) has hardly been on the park. A couple of OK scratch matches to
finish the season does not mean that possible chronic physical issues are behind him. Why keep him if his body is a ticking time bomb?

If BSOS is gone, it has to be attitudinal, at least I hope so. Goddard is great back up, but is not pressing to be a week in week out staple any time soon.
If we are being forced to cut the list, the draft will be our friend, unless we are forced to use early picks for trades too good to be true. We will have Liam
and Levi for a couple more years if necessary. Marchy can play the undersized KPD as theoretically could JSOS and MCGovern, and Kemp is big enough as
well. There will be plenty of DFA types about with a journeyman, adequate KPD likely among them. (Nikolas Cox and Zach Reid 200/202cm KPD in draft - range in phantoms from mid first to mid second) Could split first for rumoured Saad and one of these boys potentially, assuming the Kelly and Merret dreams are just that.

A Jack Higgins or a similar type of small forward who is looking for more opportunity would do nicely..in a similar mould to Dan Butler last year.

Saints got Butler for a 4th rounder or something...would love to pull a move like that.

Could not agree more. We need some tough pressure forwards that can kick goals. Jake Arnts is another one the tigers had hiding in the reserves.

Very confident on Williams. Part of our pitch was him playing midfield minutes and that was something he was really excited about.

That's why I never could understand why so many of our fans were slotting him in as a defender.

Last season when GWS put him into the midfield due to injuries he started racking up possessions and impacting the game from the midfield.

Has to be brought in as an onballer, not a defender.

I really wanted to like Darcy Lang but I honestly never saw what many here did in him. Always appeared to be an almost player. I'm disappointed that he didn't work out. As I said at the time he's the type of player that you really hope you're wrong about. If he was what many of you saw in him he would have addressed a lot of our needs.

Ben... Tough decision. Unfortunate. Given the current climate, those slow burn type players are going to find it very difficult to maintain their list spots. Hopefully he finds a list spot in the VFL, hones his craft and when/if he's ready to play senior AFL football he gets another opportunity at the Blues.

I don't get to see the VFL or the scratch matches this year so I honestly don't have an opinion on Finbar or Hugh Goddard one way or the other. But I'd ask those who do was Finbar really as far off from it as what others have speculated here?
