Didn't Craig say that Mcgregor could be given rucking responsibility this year?

Opportunity taps Kenny

KEN McGregor's evolution as an unlikely ruckman - through necessity rather than design - has won support from those outside West Lakes.

With Adelaide's depleted ruck division reduced to two - Ben Hudson and Jonathon Griffin - the likelihood of "Kenny" being asked to ruck has increased significantly. John Meesen (knee) and Ivan Maric (hip) will be absent for at least two months, placing greater onus on McGregor to expand his repertoire.
At 195cm, McGregor is almost certain to give away valuable centimetres to his rucking opponent every time he contests a stoppage. But according to former Crows ruck coach Mark Mickan, the former Woodville-West Torrens utility has other strengths he can use to his advantage against the AFL giants.

"He reads the game very well and because of his fitness he'll find a lot of the ball," Mickan, now coaching SANFL club Glenelg, said.

"He holds his body over the ball well and he's very courageous.

"You can certainly imagine him backing into packs and making a real strong contest under pressure. All I know about Kenny is he'll give it everything he's got whatever job you give him.

"He'll have a real go at it and give it 100 per cent."

While Mickan said McGregor's "motor" would be a major positive against opposition ruckmen, overcoming the height deficiency at the first bounce is near impossible. "He's got a strong body (96kg), so I think he'd be able to hold his own around the ground," Mickan noted.

"Then he'd just have to develop a good technique at the centre bounce to negate the opposition ruckman. As opposed to winning hit-outs, he'd be looking to cause the ball to drop in close."

And it's in this situation ABC commentator and former Crows utility Rod Jameson says McGregor would be useful as an old fashioned ruck-rover, given his penchant for second efforts.

"Here's a guy who might not be six foot, six inches (1.98m) but if he learns the ruck craft and competes, even at worst you know you'll have a 50-50 contest," Jameson said.

"He might offer that Matthew Pavlich type role like a tall ruck-rover, which then makes it harder for opposition to match-up when he gets around the ground."

McGregor's first audition in the ruck could come as soon as Saturday, in Adelaide's NAB Challenge match against Melbourne in Mount Gambier.

But he must prove he has overcome an Achilles ailment - which sidelined him from Friday night's NAB Cup loss to Port - at today's main training session from 12.30pm at AAMI Stadium.

I'm there. :D

Nikki, don't do that to me :(

Has Doughty's voice broken yet, Nikki?? :)

Yep, you be nice to my South boys!

Roo's voice is the one that still needs to break though

back on subject, I was looking forward to listening to Griff speak as the couple of times I have seen him (off the footy field), the impression I got was of a young guy that is quite secure in who he is - interesting fashion choices and the only player that brought his mum to the champion award and then danced with her!

yes but the next time He plays for South won't be until the year 2030 in an exhibition match to raise money for the families of those he has maimed on the footy field.

:D :thumbsu:

Sure... but having van Berlo NOT wanting to destroy your club is better than being in any other SANFL clubs shoes.
