Some women might voluntarily come forward to the media. Might be embarrassing trying to explain why you were at a graveyard at night - especially with BRE the creep. We might find, we'll only ever get a brief explanation from WAPOL - the unit signed documentation to keep matters confidential - don't know if or when those will ever expire. As it is now 2021 and the CSK is behind bars (no risk to any court case now) why would WAPOL not put out a public request for the people sighted at her grave site to come foward? They may not come forward, but they may. Or is it just too late now and doesn't matter? Waste of WAPOL funds?
Maybe a case of Perth being divided into local Policing turfs and there was a natural inclination to focus mainly on one's in a local area, even when there is a task force like Macro formed? In some instances you would put it down to hindsight, but I think this blunder of not checking related incidents is unforgivable. Wouldn't that be a 101 in an investigation?
So true Zedx and something we amateurs tried to investigate ourselves so the mind boggles that they did not do this and that there was so many more that should have raised concerns. It also doesn’t match with the open investigation as stated of taxi drivers and lance Williams. In some instances you would put it down to hindsight, but I think this blunder of not checking related incidents is unforgivable. Wouldn't that be a 101 in an investigation?
When you think about it, there would have been clerical staff within Macro performing the online database checking of police and witness statements which had been scanned online. Presumably, starting with Claremont and extending searches, outwards suburb by suburb (NSEW).So they looked at potential suspects from all Perth taxi drivers within a few years, but it took them 18 years to bother to look at historic crimes from outside the Claremont and surrounds area for potential suspects.
Maybe if some of the external to WA Government raised funds that the Denis Glennon initiated 'Secure Communities Foundation' used to 'tempt' WAPOL to explore importing and importing profilers and psychiatrists to Western Australia from interstate and the USA, was instead used for some much more boring old fashioned police investigations, they would have come across the Huntingdale cold cases pretty quickly.
Although to be fair, juggling police human and financial resources with a case involving so many murders and other crimes was never going to be easy.
And it's way too easy for keyboard crime sleuths to take pot shots in hindsight at where resources should have gone.
However, the apparent ridiculous over-investment and waste of manpower and precious $ on prime suspects Lance Williams, Steve Ross, and Peter Weygers, is my prime pot shot at the WAPOL decision makers all those years ago.
'(Chapter) 14 Unconventional
... Denis Glennon started a fund to help pay for additional police resources with his wealthy and influential business friends, including Neil Fearis, his close friend and Ciara’s boss; Michael Chaney, the boss of the national conglomerate Wesfarmers and future National Bank and Woodside chairman; and Julie Bishop, who would become Australia’s Foreign Minister.
Bishop had known Ciara Glennon when she worked as a summer clerk at the law firm Clayton Utz. Ciara had many friends at the firm. ‘The young women in particular were devastated when they heard the news and I found myself counselling them,’ Bishop said.
Called the Secure Communities Foundation, the fund kicked off with $250,000 during the electric, grief-soaked atmosphere of fear and helplessness in the aftermath of Ciara’s murder being confirmed. This unheard-of external funding was to tempt officers into exploring techniques they had not used before, including a criminal-tracking computer system from England, and importing profilers and psychiatrists to Western Australia from interstate and the USA. From San Francisco, they also imported a lie detector operator and his machine, despite the fact that lie detector results are not recognised in any Australian court. The foundation also paid for upgrading the local forensic laboratory, PathWest, enabling it to buy two genetic analysers to cope with the flood of mouth swabs taken from taxi drivers and others. These analysers, called Profiler Plus, were a huge leap in automated DNA analysis.
Contributions rapidly rose to $850,000, with the extra money slated to supplement the local police budget, including sending officers to the USA.
Behind the scenes and with the help of these extra funds, Macro was ramping up its fight against the phantom killer.

Unless my memory is more Basil Faulty than Manwell remembering how much it hurt last time, here's the Wow! card that fell out of Bret Christian's pack of Claremont PostCards this week. They did keep there cards close to their chest
I hope there were no emailed in to WAPOL reports of sexual assaults that claimed to or that might have involved BRE, amongst all the years of ones that WAPOL reportedly 'claim' to have been deleted before they were read!
Particularly any reports of possible BRE assaulting after approx. April 1997.
'At least two years of emails sent to an address set up for victims of sexual assault to reach Western Australian police have been permanently deleted, the force has confirmed.'
It's almost unbelievable, with no consequences. There needs to be an official inquiry.Following up on my shocking 20 Oct 2020 Bunker Part 1 post #6372,
there was a media update yesterday
Internal memo reveals WA Police lost six years of sexual assault emails
Western Australia's Police force lost six years worth of emails sent to an address set up to receive correspondence from sexual assault victims, documents obtained under Freedom of Information laws have revealed.www.watoday.com.au
So its gone from at least 2 years, to 6 years worth of an unknown to even WAPOL number of CSK related sexual assault crime emails sent to the non-existent promoted email address that were never read by WAPOL and auto-deleted and non-recoverable (Aug 2012 - Mar 2018).
Including the crucial 27 months after BRE was arrested, when BRE victims or those with evidence about victims and BRE sexual and other assault crimes, might have tried to get evidence to WAPOL about actual or possible BRE sexual and other assault crimes that they thought BRE was or might be involved in or have committed.
This occurrence is so appalling that even Seven West Media does not appear to want to even touch it.
Probably for fear of embarrassing WAPOL any more, and being seen to do anything that might undermine their relationship with WAPOL in the incestuous local media monopoly State of WA.
It's almost unbelievable, with no consequences. There needs to be an official inquiry.
People have mentioned that they wrote in, but never heard back. That's why.
The email address was not just incorrectly listed on the WA Police website. It's staggering. Did nobody think to check the email address supplied?
The email address was not just incorrectly listed on the WA Police website.
Labor’s 2016 election candidate Melissa Callanan got 29.3 per cent of the two-party-preferred vote.
Ms Callanan said she had not been contacted to fill Ms Parke’s vacancy.
“I made it clear to the leadership in the past I would not take it on again,” Ms Callanan said.
Labor is putting forward Melissa Callanan, who has held several roles across education and the arts, including stints in community radio and the Perth International Arts Festival. Her focus centres on education and the gender pay gap.
Imagine if BRE hacked into wherever the rogue WAPOL email account was being managed and changed the email settings to have them get auto-deleted when they hit, or BRE hacked into the website of WA Police or someones account or devices that had the passwords to change the email address to a dud one or a rogue one they set up and also controlled from having control of some of the WA Police email accounts? It's almost unbelievable, with no consequences. There needs to be an official inquiry.
Only Nine Entertainment media ran with this. (including 6PR)
Nothing from Seven West Media
There was a Telstra suspect. It is unknown ( by the posters who were discussing it) as to whether this person knew BRE.Hey Bret?
We've heard a couple of times now that there was a Telstra suspect through the investigation who was interviewed and that this Telstra suspect was someone BRE worked with on a daily basis yet BRE was completely overlooked. Again.
Can you tell us any more about what happened here? Thanks so much.
There was a Telstra suspect. It is unknown ( by the posters who were discussing it) as to whether this person knew BRE.
A Web administrator looks after Web pages, it’s usually the IT person who sets up the link, so that once, a particular choice has been selected an email screen appears, but the email address isn’t always visible. An IT person usually tells the person responsible for checking the email’s inbox, that it’s been set up. Due to the volume of correspondence expected WAPOL must have had quite a few people working in the correspondence recording section.Imagine if BRE hacked into wherever the rogue WAPOL email account was being managed and changed the email settings to have them get auto-deleted when they hit, or BRE hacked into the website of WA Police or someones account or devices that had the passwords to change the email address to a dud one or a rogue one they set up and also controlled from having control of some of the WA Police email accounts?
No way could WA Police not notice for 6 years that there were absolutely no emails appearing for that sex assault email address. No way.
Someone must have known.
Imagine if BRE was so wanting to not have any actual or potential BRE sex assaults after he met 2nd wife ever found, that they managed to stop or reduce this happening from whatever happened to that WAPOL Sex Assault email address.
Someone could have even known who one or more other BRE post Mar 1997 assault victims was and been electronically tracking their communications and seen them getting ready to email WAPOL, and done something to try and stop WAPOL from ever receiving or acting on the email.
Who know's what actually happened.
No way would WAPOL ever admit that someone deliberately did something, even if it a hack was involved.
I suppose emails could automatically be deleted, but, surly they’d need to be programmed that way.
Considering that the latest WAtoday article on this saysIt's staggering. Did nobody think to check the email address supplied?
Theres 2 different email addresses listed in the article. Typo? The WAtoday latest article reports that the emails never even arrived in any email box, and implies that the emails were auto-deleted as they hit the WAPOL email related systems, because of how WAPOL email related systems were configured.
Because in the memo obtained by the media under a WAPOL FOI, WAPOL is reported to claim that they cant find any record of who deleted or deactivated the email account, I'd say that dramatically increases the possibility that someone hacked unauthorised did it.
Although there's a strong possibility that someone with access to do it, knows exactly who did it, and they are just covering their tracks to provide a dead end to any standard investigation questions about responsibility for the change controls that should have been put in place whenever a public facing email address is deactivated or deleted.
Hopefully, since the deactivation or deletion is reported to have happened 8-9 year ago, you'd hope that change controls and security on email accounts like this were already dramatically improved years ago to prevent something like this from reoccurring.
'an internal memo obtained under FOI by WAtoday has revealed...'Internal memo reveals WA Police lost six years of sexual assault emails
Western Australia's Police force lost six years worth of emails sent to an address set up to receive correspondence from sexual assault victims, documents obtained under Freedom of Information laws have revealed.www.watoday.com.au
'"Records show that email servers started responding to internal users that mail was undeliverable to sex.assault@police.wa.gov.au from 6th August 2012. This indicates that the primary account name sex.assault@police.wa.gov.au was deleted around that time," the memo reads....'
'.... The memo goes on to suggest the email address in question may have been deactivated as, "it is an inappropriate email and was possibly considered offensive".
Mr Cann wrote that his team had been unable to find any record of who deleted the email.
'The documents also reveal there were no redirection plans set up when the email address was deleted, and none of the potentially thousands of emails that were sent to the sex squad via the address over the six-year period could ever be retrieved.'
"Emails sent to a non-existent email address can only be re-directed to another mailbox where an alias exists or they are dropped (deleted). Systems do not retain copies of dropped emails as they are usually associated with spam and/or malicious emails," the memo reads.
The memo also states it was "standard cybersecurity practice" to not store undeliverable incoming emails because "systems would quickly fill up and stop working".
"We get thousands of emails per year that are undeliverable because hackers and spammers use emails addressed to randomly generated addresses seeking point of entry. We let the computer systems drop these as there are far too many to review individually," the memo continues.'
'The memo states that there was no bounceback email feature for anyone outside of WA Police staff to indicate the email address was wrong because it is "poor cybersecurity practice to do so".'
1. Telstra employeeWasnt the ''main'' Telstra suspect a POI due to
1. Telstra employee
2. Attended Claremont night clubs
3. Knew one of the girls? ( unsure)
Who or what is Lisa?I don't think you are talking about the same Telstra suspects that Bret Christian refers to in his new book as per the below.
'All up, more than 130 persons of interest had now been investigated and their DNA tested for the Karrakatta crimes. Significantly, their names had been found on Lisa’s case file but the individuals had never been investigated by Macro, so convinced was the squad that the same offender was not responsible for all four Claremont crimes. Intriguingly, some of these persons of interest on Lisa’s file were Telstra workers. But this new investigation went nowhere.'
(Christian, Bret. Stalking Claremont (pp. 241-242). ABC Books. Kindle Edition.)
I think this leaves open the possibility that BRE was on the list of KK POI as a Telstra worker, but that Macro never investigated this 130 DNA tested ppl list that included some Telstra workers, as they were all excluded from possible POI for SS, JR and CG?
Is that how they can still claim that BRE was never suggested as being the CSK, because he was only on that list of 130 POI for the KK case?
Can we assume that if BRE was on the list of 130, that he must have been DNA tested and that for some reason the DNA matches did not pick up a general match across the WA DNA database?
Or is the question more one of how come BRE was not in that 130 POI for the KK case (which includes some Telstra workers)?
How close did they get to BRE being a POI for KK?
Maybe one of his work colleagues only?
Bret Christian’s book’s pseudonym (name) for the Rowe Park/Karrakatta Cemetery living victim that BRE pleaded guilty too in 2019, on all charges relating to his abduction/rapes of her in Feb 1995.Who or what is Lisa?
1. Telstra employee
2. Attended Claremont night clubs
3. Drove a Telstra car and was offering girls lifts
4. Former NT cop
5. Grew up in Dawesville
6. Macro questioned him extensively and search his home.
Pretty sure he didn't know any of the girls.
