Suns readying for life without Harbrow

GOLD Coast have moved to crown Jarrod Harbrow’s heir as the Suns prepare for life after one of their most important clubmen.

Sean Lemmens is expected to start at halfback in Saturday’s pre-season game against the Brisbane Lions at Metricon Stadium.

Coach Stuart Dew views Lemmens, 26, as a prime candidate to take Harbrow’s mantle in defence once the latter decides to call time on his career.

Guess I know who was. giving away the free kicks to Charlie Cameron!
LEmmens down back.. ehh.. can feel so many opposition goals from stupid free kicks.

That Daniher/Hipwood combo is going to be brutal if they can keep them on the park and firing, even worse with a dominant midfield. Can’t think of many teams with the height and skills to go with them both.

Powell is back and straight we play better :)

Boswell:
Much better from the Suns to start the second term. They’ve had the better of the territory early, without being able to convert. Lions’ backline has so far been comfortable under the high ball.

7’ Rayner hits Starcevich with a 15m kick inside and he will line up for goal from 35m out. BEHIND LIONS. Lions lead by 36 points.

Alex Sexton, Wil Powell and Chris Burgess have been brought in to the interchange rotations for the Suns.

Second quarter under way at Metricon. Lions lead by 35 points.

Boswell:
Gold Coast have got themselves into the contest and are now getting the Sherrin deep into the square with their forward 50m entries. It’s giving the likes of King the ability to mark or bring the ball to ground and provide higher percentage kicks for goals.

Boswell:
17’ GOAL LIONS: Hipwood free kick just outside 50 and he finds Cameron on the chest. Cameron turns side-on and kicks arounds his body for the goal. Started with a chase down tackle on Rowell in the middle of the ground. Was good intent from Rowell looking to open up the ground, just didn’t have the options with him. Lions lead by 36.

Obviously not going to panic after 1 practice game, but disappointing we can't lay a glove on the Lions. Will look forward to how we go against them in a week with Collins apparently being fit for that game strengthening the backline.

Boswell:

Witts, Lukosius, Miller, Lemmens, Swallow and Anderson have been among the best in the first half for the Suns while recruit Oleg Markov has showed pace in the backline and penetrated with his kicks.

HALFTIME

Brisbane 9.4-58 v Gold Coast 3.4-22

Jarrod Witts has come from the field with a split left eye. He has gone into the rooms to try and stem the bleeding.

28’ GOAL SUNS: Swallow shapes to kick for goal but instead spots up Sam Flanders on the lead. Flanders’ attempt from 30m out is true and the Suns pull one back. Lions by 36.

Will Brodie has acquitted himself well in the opening two terms, proving strong in the contest, running defensively and making good decisions with ball in hand.

24’ BEHIND SUNS: Noah Anderson with a long kick inside 50 that skids off the deck in the goal square and kicks into the post. Lions by 42.

23’ GOAL LIONS: Hipwood finds a leaping Daniher in the middle of the 50 and the latter salutes with his third of the game. Lions by 43.
21’ BEHIND LIONS: McStay with a run down tackle inside 50 and misses the subsequent set shot wide left. Lions lead by 37. Communication is an issue at present for the Suns and it’s something Dew is urging his players to arrest. Charlie Ballard just got done holding the ball 20m out from goal, leading to the McStay shot on goal.

Only a practice match but clearly not ideal. This team needs wins to build confidence they can match the top teams, not 6 goal quarter time deficits.
Not even sure Collo would help against Daniher and Hipwood. He struggles a bit on the taller leading key forwards. Likes the body on body stuff more.

Hi all, how's Brodie looking today? Any chance he plays as a midfielder in your best 22 round 1?

Boswell:
Suns keep starters in the middle to start the third term. Witts, Rowell, Greenwood and Miller at the opening bounce.

THIRD QUARTER UNDER WAY. Lions lead by 36 points.
