Ruscoe - I’m beginning to like the kid. A better alternative to Stephenson deep. Has some footy smarts to make the most of opportunities, great kick to Cameron in the last.

Until he starts to tackle and show some physical commitment its seconds for me. He does have a knack for getting goals which literally fall into his lap, but his lack of pressure and presence is appalling.
That’s what I thought watching him last year. Tonight however that two on one deep in the 50, he knocked it clean into space and followed up to goal. The contest on the wing, he read it better and the kick to Cameron was sublime. He’s still learning what’s required of him, and no doubt he’ll play games in the twos. But I think the signs are good.

I think that is more about our team defensive structures, mids and wings getting back etc. hard to tell though as I wasn’t at the game. They have definitely looked sharper, and the real barometer for how a defence is going is their rebound. If they are effective at neutralising entries, whether by intercepting or spoiling to advantage then they are set up to rebound better. Tigers could have converted better and the score line wouldn’t have been as flattering.
I agree about rebounding but when the ball comes in at times with little or no pressure they are under the pump. There was a bit of rebound. Moore for instance was playing in the last line of defence which limits us a bit but when he came down the ground a bit in the last quarter it made a difference. Quaynor was the best rebounder. I reckon if our defence played against our attack they would have a field day.

Josh Thomas sits it on his head and Grimes takes the mark and breaks a collarbone.....Thomas' kicking skills are abysmal ...he's always been a mile off ..he's a weak link

Seen enough of both players to not expect more then 2 average AFL players.

Cal reminds me of Josh Thomas.
Tyler has a better chance.

My point really was if they are the next batch we are talking about coming through, where going to struggle.
I was more referring to Bianco and Rantall? Have not even got to have play a twos game yet and you have stamped their papers. Can you enlighten us to why?

We have a Few Weak Links in the Side.

Add C Brown and Madgen to Start

If any defence played against our attack with the delivery they get it would be a field day. We are really poor executors and decision makers in transition. It kills me!

Madgen is very slow and lacks agility for a former basketballer. My hope is Keane can take some big strides this year.

Love to be proven wrong, but we cannot have him and Hoskin Elliott inside fifty. That is so butter soft I cringe thinking about it.

He's copped season ending or months on the sidelines injuries in his last two senior appearances. It's just beyond belief how our club continues to pick players who are stuck together with sticky tape.

For sure he’s a weak link, but at the moment I think he’s a best 22. As long as that is the case and on account of his poor disposal we will not be able to contend for a premiership.

it doesn’t appear like our delivery into 50, transition play and conversion from clearance has improved one bit!

You reckon Ruscoe is soft? I agree he doesn’t apply as much pressure as he could but I don’t know if that means he’s soft...I haven’t noticed him pull out of a contest, or spill a mark as he’s bracing for contact. I could be wrong.

I find it hard to accurately gage what was the reason for a momentum swing in a practice game. How much of it was our adjustment or ability to adapt to Richmond and how much of it was personnel related?

Without being too analytical, I feel like we have plenty of positives to build on, and plenty of negatives to work on. I’ve been saying for ages, Jordan De Goey just has to be a midfielder. He’s great inside 50, but if we’re gonna maximise his potential, he needs to be a mid. Was happy with Cox, Billy and IQ, not so thrilled with the Brown’s, particularly Cal, and then also Jack Madgen. I’m still undecided on Ruscoe, I wish Brodie would take more marks around the ground (he gets to plenty of contests), WHE still leaves me wanting more (disappointed how far he’s fallen off since 2018). Ollie Henry had a difficult night, I don’t blame him, he’ll learn.

On the plus side, at least our two pre-season hitouts have been against the two Grand Finalists from last season, and we didn’t disgrace ourselves.

For what it’s worth, it was just nice to be back at the footy with a bit of a crowd and an atmosphere.

all due to personnel imo. First half putrid, then cue in the rack for tigers after half time. Cotchin and Grimes on ice. Richmond couldnt kick straight, otherwise wouldve still been a 6 goal win for them. Training run.

We're great tacklers and handballers... but cannot kick for sh*t. So many turnovers.

Dont think Madgen or C Brown can play round 1. Play Murphy ffs. Grundy needs to be better. Pendles nearing his end.

Quaynor & De Goey great. & if we didnt have Elliott, Crisp and Maynard, we would be competing for the spoon.

I reckon Crisp is a bit error prone unfortunately though.

WHE with a fantastic 6 disposal night, totally agree op
WHE is never going to get 40 touches, it’s not his game and not his role. He went at 100% disposal, that is something we don’t have in spades and particularly where it counts most, going into 50. He had 3 inside 50’s for the night including two score involvements.

Agree he should get more of it, that will come when we start playing better. I thought for an uncontested type player when he got his chances he made them count. Every team has a player like him. He also contested well in the air, there was one instance from a kick in where he brought it down to a crumbing Crisp that resulted in a score (a goal I think) for us.

I know Stevo goes from a superstar to spud as soon as he leaves the club, but he did kick 40 goals in his first year.. Ruscoe is not even best 22...

Madgen was infuriating. He got way too much of the ball for a bloke with zero composure when disposing of it. I’ll be unhappy if he’s in the round 1 22.

why are you attacking our players like that??!!! You should never criticise them. They are people too.

Quaynor is going to have a huge year, he looks in ripping touch

De Goey must be AA this year.

Grundy MUST TAKE MARKS INSTEAD OF DOUBLE PUNCHING EVERYTHING IN DEFENCE - YOU'RE A 1MILLION DOLLAR TALL, TAKE A ******* MARK

Callum Brown WHE Josh Thomas all utter garbage as usual

Henry was very poor, no chance of playing early now.

Crisp Maynard and Pendles put in another very good consistent performance

Tyler Brown took a step forward, got involved a lot and looks stronger this year, should be best 22 finally.

Elliot looks in the best shape he's looked since pre-back injury

Ruscoe not sure... he has some X factor but seems pretty flakey.

Don’t be ridiculous Kappa. WHE was bog by a country mile. 4000 Brownlow votes or it’s rigged. Can you imagine if he didn’t hide in the stands for 3 quarters of every match!!! He’d be the greatest of all time.

ps there is zero sarcasm in this post and if you say there is you’re as bad as all the other WHE haters on this board.

He was invisible and he is another cooked forward we need to replace asap. 2 score involvements is not something to hang your hat on

On BF in the early hours of the morning trying to score points against people you don’t know. You’re a pretty sad individual.
