Ok The Other Dean , some follow up to last night’s conversation ...

The Goodman tune that every wannabe jazz clarinetist drags out to prove they can play fast is China Boy. Also features Gene Krupa being awesome.

Awesome.

And yeah, with all due respect to Mr Goodman (who certainly doesn't need my validation to confirm his obvious genius status), that was probably my favourite part.

Krupa is a trip. Absolute legend.

I often find myself honing in on the drumming when listening to this stuff. Some of the drumming in the middle section of that Chelsea McBride's Socialist Night School track was very cool.

Anat Cohen does BrazilIan choro

Cohen and Paquito D'Rivera absolutely shred the great Dr Lonnie Smith piece "And The World Weeps".

Sweet. And very much plays to my love of Tropicalia.

Julien Wilson ... the guy who hand delivered his record to me in the middle of lockdown :moustache: .

Wow. Excellent stuff.

Thanks for the clips. Will keep investigating.

Very nice. I’m overdue a trip to the record store. Sunnyboys onto the wish list!

Acquired this last night at the gig. Very agreeable record.

Very agreeable (first post-lockdown) gig, too.

Hanlon and his battered, op shop guitars. Some appealing anecdotes between songs. Even played a few old standards for the diehards.

Bit of a Billy Bragg vibe going on.

Particularly enjoyed the duets with his 'other half', Shelley Short.

Ms. Short being a very talented artist in her own right.
